A Cross-Sectional Study to Assess Diabetes as a Risk Factor for Root Caries Amongst the Elderly Population in Udupi District, Karnataka State, India.

Objectives: To compare the prevalence of root surface carious lesions among the nondiabetic and diabetic elderly population and its association with various risk factors.

Methods: An observational analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among 800 elderly participants, 431 males and 369 females, aged 50 years and above, with a minimum of ten teeth present, with 400 being diabetic and 400 nondiabetic from the various hospitals of the Udupi district. Demographics, socioeconomic status, oral hygiene practices, oral abusive habits, and history of type 2 diabetes were collected using an interviewer-administered questionnaire followed by an intraoral examination to assess root caries.

Comparing Obtura Vascular Closure Device to Manual Compression for Achieving Hemostasis After Percutaneous Transfemoral Procedures: A Randomized Study.

Purpose: This trial was designed and aimed to compare safety and efficacy of Obtura™ vascular closure device (VCD) to manual compression (MC) among patients undergoing transfemoral catheterization.

Material And Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled, multicenter trial of Obtura VCD against MC randomized patients in 1:1 (n=268; 134:134) ratio. Safety and efficacy were measured by primary endpoints (time to hemostasis [TTH] and deployment success) and secondary endpoints which included technical success, device-related adverse events, and time to ambulation (TTA).

Efficacy of comprehensive structured exercise program on claudication pain and quality of life in type 2 diabetes mellitus with peripheral arterial disease.

Severe Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Healthy Young Infants: Single Center Experience.

Objective: We studied the clinical presentation and management of acute pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in healthy young infants, and the effect of thiamine therapy.

Methods: Review of hospital records was conducted for 56 healthy infants (aged below 6 month) who developed sudden onset of pulmonary arterial hypertension as diagnosed on 2D echocardiography, and were admitted at our institution.

Results: All patients received supportive care and pulmonary vasodilator therapy, whereas those admitted after Sep-tember, 2019 (n=28) received thiamine in addition, as per the institute's protocol.

Metabolic Bone Disease in Children With Transfusion-Dependent Thalassemia.

Objective: This study aimed to detect metabolic bone disease and endocrinopathies in a cohort of patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT).

Methods: This prospective study was conducted between March 2020 - August 2021. Children with TDT older than 5 years, receiving regular blood transfusion, underwent comprehensive endocrine and metabolic bone disease evaluation, which included screening for short stature, delayed puberty, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency and hypoparathyroidism.

However, the availability, need of trained operators, and the expenses involved restrict the routine use of ICE in many cath labs. Point density exclusion (PDX) mapping is a simple technique that doesn't demand any additional expense or tool apart from the routine electroanatomical mapping and thus can be widely applied in mapping of arrhythmias arising from endocavitary structures.

Descriptive Epidemiology of Unintentional Childhood Injuries in India: An ICMR Taskforce Multisite Study.

Background: Children 0-14 years constitute about 31.4% of Indian population, among whom the magnitude and risk factors of childhood injuries have not been adequately studied.

Objective: To study the prevalence of and assess the factors associated with unintentional injuries among children aged 6 month - 18 years in various regions.

Is methicillin-resistant infection associated with higher mortality and morbidity in hospitalized patients? A cohort study of 551 patients from South Western India.

Purpose: To determine morbidity and mortality of methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) infections in a tertiary health care facility.

Methods: A cohort study among hospitalized adult patients with culture proven MRSA or MSSA monoinfection were recruited in a tertiary referral center in South India from November 2011 to December 2012.

Results: Of total 551 subjects, 284 (52%) had MRSA and 267 (48%) MSSA infection.

Correlates of Late Presentation to HIV care in a South Indian Cohort.

Late presentation to healthcare by HIV infected patients' is common in India despite access to free combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). We assessed risk factors for late presentation among patients with a recent HIV diagnosis in an academic university-based antiretroviral treatment center. This retrospective study included 474 recently diagnosed HIV-infected patients registered for cART between 2012 and 2013.

Effectiveness of a training program for bleeding disorders among accredited social health activists in Udupi District, Karnataka, India.

Introduction: Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders are underreported and cause significant morbidity and mortality in resource-constrained countries. Training and the creation of awareness among accredited social heath activists (ASHAs) will aid in the early detection of bleeding disorders at the community level.

Objective: To develop awareness and skills for the screening and identification of cases with bleeding symptoms among ASHAs in Udupi District, Karnataka, India.

Objective: Purohit, in the Indian religious context (Hindu), means priest. Purohits are professional voice users who use their voice while performing regular worships and rituals in temples and homes. Any deviations in their voice can have an impact on their profession.

Effectiveness of prowling with proprioceptive training on knee hyperextension among stroke subjects using videographic observation- a randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: Knee hyperextension is seen in 40-68% of ambulating hemiparetics. If left untreated it may lead to laxity of posterior structures of knee resulting in early degeneration of knee leading to pain, reduced independence in activities of daily living (ADL), deformities and instability. In this study we hypothesize walking with bent knee attitude (prowling) along with proprioceptive training may help to reduce knee hyperextension during the stance phase of gait cycle.

Replacing 24-h Albumin Excretion with a Shorter Collection Period in Preeclampsia.

Objectives: To evaluate whether the gold standard of 24-h urinary albumin excretion in preeclamptic women could be substituted by a shorter collection period.

Methods: From each woman, three spot, two 12-h, and one 24-h urine samples were collected. For each sample, urine albumin concentrations in milligram per liter were analyzed by the immunoturbidimetric method.
