We present the case of a patient who came to the emergency department with a significant decrease in vision and dilated pupil in the left eye. Since neurological pathologies were primarily considered, diffusion brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and brain computed tomography (CT) were requested. After the results were reported as normal, we were consulted.

The Efficacy of Adalimumab Treatment in Pediatric Non-Infectious Uveitis: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical features of pediatric non-infectious uveitis (NIU) patients treated with adalimumab (ADA) and the efficacy of ADA in patients unresponsive to conventional immunosuppressive therapy.

Materials And Methods: The records of 91 NIU patients aged ≤16 years who received ADA therapy were evaluated retrospectively. The patients' demographic and clinical characteristics and treatment approaches were recorded.

Purpose: To evaluate the natural history of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through advanced retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) analysis and sub-RPE illumination (SRI) data and to elucidate their correlation with disease progression.

Methods: A total of 82 patients with dry AMD were included in this longitudinal study. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) was utilized to evaluate central macular thickness (CMT), central retinal thickness (CRT), foveal outer nuclear layer (ONL) thickness, and ellipsoid zone (EZ) integrity.

Can Kinesiotaping Reduce Pain in Rib Fractures?: A Randomized Prospective Study.

Introduction: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of kinesiotaping on pain scores in patients with rib fractures following isolated thoracic trauma.

Materials And Methods: In this randomized prospective study, patients with isolated thoracic trauma and rib fractures were randomized into kinesiotaping and control groups between January 24, 2024, and October 1, 2024. Patients in the control group received standard analgesic treatment.

Ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents (ORs) are increasingly turning to the internet for medical information, underscoring the significant role that YouTube videos, particularly three-dimensional (3D) ones, play in lifelong learning. This study aimed to compare the content and quality of 3D YouTube videos with two-dimensional (2D) videos as supplementary educational tools for vitreoretinal surgery. Data collected included video length (minutes), time elapsed since upload (days), number of views, likes, dislikes, vitreoretinal surgery type, and visualization system.

One-Year Outcomes of Aflibercept in Treat-and-Extend Versus Pro Re Nata Regimens for Bevacizumab-Resistant Diabetic Macular Edema: A Real-World Study.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of the treat-and-extend (TAE) regimen versus the pro re nata (PRN) regimen in patients with bevacizumab-resistant diabetic macular edema (DME) treated with aflibercept, with or without adjunctive laser therapy.

Methods: Ninety-one eyes from 91 patients who were switched to aflibercept after three consecutive intravitreal bevacizumab injections for the treatment of DME were included in this retrospective real-world study. The patients were categorized into three groups: TAE (n = 30), TAE + laser (n = 31), and PRN (n = 30).

Efficacy of intravitreal faricimab therapy for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is an aneurismal type of macular neovascularization that show similarities with age-related macular degeneration and diseases that are part of the pachychoroid disease spectrum. Exudative changes in PCV can be treated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy; however, a combination therapy with photodynamic therapy may be required. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the efficacy of faricimab for PCV.

Simultaneous and Consecutive Drainage of Bilateral Chronic Subdural Hematoma: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is one of the most common types of intracranial hemorrhage, particularly in elderly individuals. Although most patients present with unilateral CSDH, bilateral involvement is not rare. Furthermore, bilateral CSDHs are associated with rapid deterioration and poorer outcomes because of a higher risk of brain herniation than unilateral hematomas.

Are ultrasonographic scoring systems of the salivary gland in primary Sjögren's syndrome suitable for examination of Type2 diabetes mellitus patients with sicca?

Objective: This study aimed to compare the salivary gland ultrasonography(SGUS) findings in patients with primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS) and diabetes mellitus(DM) patients with sicca symptoms and to examine the relationship between salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) findings with clinical and laboratory parameters.

Methods: In this study, 34 patients with pSS and 34 DM patients with sicca symptoms were included. In all patients, bilateral parotid, and submandibular gland ultrasonography (totally 272 glands) was performed by blinded rheumatologist, using the Hocevar and the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) scoring system.

Effect of upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery on cornea biomechanics and ocular surface.

Purpose: To evaluate the changes in corneal biomechanical properties and tear film layer analysis after upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery.

Method: Sixty eyes of 30 patients were included in our prospective study. Corneal hysteresis (CH), corneal resistance factor (CRF), corneal compensated intraocular pressure (IOPcc) and Goldmann intraocular pressure (IOPg) measurements were taken with the Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA) device at the preoperative, postoperative 1st and 3rd months.

The effect of favipiravir on fracture healing.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of favipiravir on fracture healing. Forty-eight female rats which had a femur fracture with intramedullary Kirschner wire fixation performed were divided into 6 groups; 2 control groups (C1, C2) and 4 experimental groups (F1, F2, F3, F4). The control groups (C1, C2) received physiological saline by oral gavage for 14 days.

In this study, we aimed to predict the development of complete atrioventricular (AV) block and bundle branch block during and after the TAVR procedure and to investigate any changes in the cardiac conduction system before and after the procedure using electrophysiological study.

Beyond images: an integrative multi-modal approach to chest x-ray report generation.

Image-to-text radiology report generation aims to automatically produce radiology reports that describe the findings in medical images. Most existing methods focus solely on the image data, disregarding the other patient information accessible to radiologists. In this paper, we present a novel multi-modal deep neural network framework for generating chest x-rays reports by integrating structured patient data, such as vital signs and symptoms, alongside unstructured clinical notes.

Bone and Parathyroid Scintigraphy Findings in Sagliker Syndrome.

Sagliker syndrome (SS) is a rare, exaggerated form of chronic kidney disease (CKD)-mineral and bone disorder resulting from untreated secondary hyperparathyroidism due to CKD. Herein, we describe a 34-year-old male patient whose Tc-99m-methylene diphosphonate bone scintigraphy and Tc-99m-sestamibi parathyroid scintigraphy revealed hints of SS and exhibited its defining characteristics.

Dexamethasone Addition Impairs the Therapeutic Effects of Nimodipine for Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: An Experimental Animal Study.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of the combination of nimodipine and dexamethasone in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).

Material And Methods: In this study, 35 female adult Wistar Albino rats were randomly assigned to four groups: Sham (n=8), SAH with no treatment (n=9), SAH with nimodipine (n=9, oral gavage, 12 mg/kg, BID) treatment, and SAH with combined therapy with nimodipine and dexamethasone (n=9, intraperitoneally, 1mg/kg, BID). The "cisterna magna double injection of autologous blood" model was used.

Objective: Other primary headache disorders (OPHD) are under-investigated compared to frequent primary headache types like migraine, tension-type headache, and trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias. Knowledge of the distribution and characteristics of OPHD subtypes is crucial for their recognition. We aimed to determine the prevalence at the hospital and headache clinics and clinical characteristics of OPHDs in patients from 13 countries.

Impulsivity in adolescent girls diagnosed with trichotillomania: an evaluation of clinical and neuropsychological characteristics.

The aim of this study is to compare the clinical and neuropsychological features of impulsivity in adolescent girls with trichotillomania (TTM) and healthy controls, and to assess the relationships between the severity of TTM and the impulsivity/concomitant symptoms of anxiety and depression. The study sample consisted of 43 adolescent girls who were 12 to 18 years old. The Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version DSM-5 (K-SADS-PL) was administered to the adolescents and their parents.
