Mycophenolate mofetil attenuates uterine ischaemia/reperfusion injury in a rat model.

Reprod Biomed Online

February 2017

Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT, USA.

This study evaluated the effect of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) on uterine tissue preservation following ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Uterine I/R injury was induced in rats by clamping the lower abdominal aorta and ovarian arteries for 30 min. Group I/R + V (n = 7) received vehicle alone while Group I/R + M (n = 7) received 20 mg/kg/day MMF.

Objective: To determine the levels of WISP1 and betatrophin in normal weight and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to assess their relationship with anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, atherogenic profile and metabolic parameters Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study, the study group was composed of 49 normal weighed and 34 obese women with PCOS diagnosed based on the Rotterdam criteria; 36 normal weight and 26 obese age matched non-hyperandrogenemic women with regular menstrual cycle. Serum WISP1, betatrophin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and AMH levels were evaluated. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed between betatrophin, WISP1 levels and AMH levels, metabolic and atherogenic parameters.

An integrated lab-on-a-chip-based electrochemical biosensor for rapid and sensitive detection of cancer biomarkers.

Anal Bioanal Chem

November 2016

Bioelectronic Devices and Systems Group, UEKAE-BILGEM-The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), 41470, Gebze, Kocaeli, Turkey.

Recent advances in the area of biosensor technology and microfluidic applications have enabled the miniaturisation of the sensing platforms. Here we describe a new integrated and fully automated lab-on-a-chip-based biosensor device prototype (MiSens) that has potential to be used for point-of-care cancer biomarker testing. The key features of the device include a new biochip, a device integrated microfluidic system and real-time amperometric measurements during the flow of enzyme substrate.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of single-dose methotrexate (MTX) and salpingectomy on ovarian reserve in women with ectopic pregnancy in the late post-treatment period. A total of 181 patients were included in the study; 56 of them received a single-dose of MTX, 45 of them had undergone salpingectomy treatment for ectopic pregnancy in the previous 12-18 months, and 80 healthy women constituted an age-matched control group. The anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and oestrogen (E) levels, as well as antral follicle counts (AFC) of the patients were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and enoxaparin on ovarian tissue damage after torsion/detorsion injury in rats, comparing their effectiveness in preserving ovarian reserve.
  • NAC treatment led to a higher number of pre-antral follicles and less tissue damage compared to the enoxaparin group, highlighting NAC's superior protective effects against oxidative stress.
  • Both NAC and enoxaparin reduced markers of oxidative damage, but only NAC significantly improved antioxidant levels and reduced harmful substances in ovarian tissue.

Background: Results of open and endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery were compared with many studies done previously. To the best of our knowledge, difference in pain after endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) and open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) has not been objectively documented in literature. The aim of the study was to compare the pain intensity in the early postoperative period in patients undergoing OCTR versus those undergoing ECTR.

Skin graft studies in rats constitute a valuable adjunct to scientific human experimentations, however the harvesting of split thickness skin graft poses a challenge to the researcher due to the presence of panniculus carnosus tissue in rat skin. This striated muscle tissue renders significant laxity and mobility to the skin layer, greatly interfering with the process of skin graft harvest. In order to fixate the rat skin and limit its flexibility various techniques and modifications have been described, which mostly rely on the use of subdermal implanted templates.

Purpose: Cisplatin is a potent chemotherapeutic drug with serious side effects such as ototoxicity which is characterized by irreversible, bilateral, progressive sensorineural hearing loss. Oxytocin, which is a well-known hormone secreting during pregnancy, has antioxidant and antiinflammatory effect. Our study aims to test and compare the effect of intratympanic (IT) and intraperitoneal (IP) oxytocin on cisplatin ototoxicity with DPOAE.

Concomitant administration of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is currently recognized as the standard of treatment in locally advanced inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Our study aimed to compare the efficacy and toxicities of three different chemotherapy regimens delivered concurrently with radiotherapy. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients who received the PE (cisplatin, 50 mg/m(2), on days 1, 8, 29, and 36 plus etoposide, 50 mg/m(2), on days 1 to 5 and 29 to 33), PD (docetaxel, 20 mg/m(2), on day 1 plus cisplatin, 20 mg/m(2), on day 1, every week), and PC (carboplatin, AUC 2 plus paclitaxel, 45 mg/m(2), on day 1, every week) regimens concurrently with radiotherapy.
