STAD, Centre for Psychiatry Research, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Stockholm Health Care Services, Region Stockholm, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of mental health problems and health risk behaviors among Swedish male elite soccer players and their attitudes toward possible prevention strategies.

Method: Twenty elite soccer players, aged 15-30 years, were recruited through purposive sampling and interviewed a digital video calling platform. A semi-structured interview guide, encompassing questions about mental health problems, health risk behaviors among soccer teams, peer-relations, relations to coaches, and attitudes toward health risk behaviors, along with proposals for effective interventions, was employed.

Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is inversely associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and brain health impairments. However, the molecular mechanisms linking CRF to health in children are poorly understood. We aimed to examine protein levels related to brain health and CVD in plasma of fit compared to unfit children with overweight/obesity (OW/OB).

Objective: It is challenging to identify sepsis in the emergency department, in part due to the non-specific presentation of septic patients. Current clinical sepsis screening tools rely on vital signs but many patients present with near normal vital signs and are therefore not identified as septic. This suggests that variables, e.

The discovery of genetic loci associated with complex diseases has outpaced the elucidation of mechanisms of disease pathogenesis. Here we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for coronary artery disease (CAD) comprising 181,522 cases among 1,165,690 participants of predominantly European ancestry. We detected 241 associations, including 30 new loci.

Jaundice is an alarm symptom that should always be treated urgently, regardless of whether the responsible doctor is in primary care or in the emergency room. The differential diagnoses can be significantly delimited (hepatocellular vs. cholestasis) and several clues to the etiology can be determined from a carefully performed anamnesis, clinical examination, and basic laboratory tests.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in Sweden. Several decades ago it was recognized that the Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is involved in a critical growth system for breast cancer cells. Overexpression of HER2 (immunohistochemistry [IHC] 2+/3+, in situ hybridization [ISH] positive) is present in 15 percent of all breast cancers.

Environmental Risks for Inflammatory Myopathies.

Rheum Dis Clin North Am

This is an up-to-date review on external environmental factors for adult-onset idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs). Environmental factors with suggestive evidence including ultraviolet radiation, smoking, infectious agents (viruses in particular), pollutants, medications (ie, statin) and vitamin D deficiency are discussed. We also discuss the potential implications of environmental factors in IIM development, identify current challenges, and provide insight into future investigations.

A mechanistic framework for cardiometabolic and coronary artery diseases.

Coronary atherosclerosis results from the delicate interplay of genetic and exogenous risk factors, principally taking place in metabolic organs and the arterial wall. Here we show that 224 gene-regulatory coexpression networks (GRNs) identified by integrating genetic and clinical data from patients with ( = 600) and without ( = 250) coronary artery disease (CAD) with RNA-seq data from seven disease-relevant tissues in the Stockholm-Tartu Atherosclerosis Reverse Network Engineering Task (STARNET) study largely capture this delicate interplay, explaining >54% of CAD heritability. Within 89 cross-tissue GRNs associated with clinical severity of CAD, 374 endocrine factors facilitated inter-organ interactions, primarily along an axis from adipose tissue to the liver ( = 152).

The COVID-19 pandemic caused drastic social changes for many people, including separation from friends and coworkers, enforced close contact with family, and reductions in mobility. Here we assess the extent to which people's evolutionarily-relevant basic motivations and goals-fundamental social motives such as Affiliation and Kin Care-might have been affected. To address this question, we gathered data on fundamental social motives in 42 countries ( = 15,915) across two waves, including 19 countries (  10,907) for which data were gathered both before and during the pandemic (pre-pandemic wave: 32 countries,  = 8998; 3302 male, 5585 female;   24.

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its complications are increasing rapidly. Support for healthy lifestyle and self-management is paramount, but not adequately implemented in health systems. Process evaluations facilitate understanding why and how interventions work through analyzing the interaction between intervention theory, implementation and context.

Introduction: Postoperative cognitive decline affects cognitive domains such as executive functions, memory, concentration and information processing. The analogue neuropsychological test developed by the International Study Group of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction (ISPOCD) is a well-established test for assessing cognitive performance. However, analogue tests are time-consuming, rarely cost-effective and can be at risk of administration bias.

Low physical activity is responsible for approximately 0,83 million deaths globally every year according to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD), whereas others have estimated that low physical activity is responsible for about 4-5 million deaths annually. The underlying evidence for the GBD estimate is debatable. It is based on a substantially lower maximal risk reduction with a relative risk of about 10 % compared with a maximal relative risk reduction of more than 30 % in the recent WHO global physical activity recommendations.

Enhanced screening and efficient cancer treatments have led to a growing number of cancer survivors. In Sweden over 500 000 individuals have or have had cancer [1]. Cancer survivors can experience a wide range of disease and treatment related symptoms, that profoundly affect their health related quality of life.

In patients with coronary artery disease, exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (EBCR) is recommended to decrease all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, hospitalisation and risk of myocardial infarction and to improve aerobic capacity and muscle strength and endurance. Before starting the EBCR program, a pre-exercise screening is conducted. Exercise is individually prescribed based on tests of aerobic and muscular strength/endurance, as part of a comprehensive and medically supervised program.

Healthcare professionals play a central role in health promotion and supporting patients to healthy lifestyles. The handbook FYSS (Physical Activity in the Prevention and Treatment of Disease), produced by Swedish Professional Associations for Physical Activity (YFA), can facilitate this work by providing evidence-based recommendations on how to prevent and treat common diseases and conditions using physical activity in a systematic way. This thematic issue presents a sample of the chapters included in the new FYSS 2021.

Recommendations on physical activity and sedentary behaviour for improved health have been prepared by Professional Associations for Physical Activity (YFA) and approved by the Swedish Society of Medicine. All adults should do aerobic physical activity 150-300 minutes at moderate or 75-150 minutes at high intensity, or combined, at a weekly basis. For additional health benefits, muscle-strengthening activity should be performed on at least 2 days a week, and sedentary time should be limited and replaced by physical activity.

Epilepsy surgery should be considered for individuals with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. The pre-surgical evaluation is highly multi-disciplinary and performed by a team consisting of neurologists, neurophysiologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, biomedical scientists, speech-language pathologists and nursing staff. The evaluation comprises of a meticulous medical history with focus on seizure semiology, a 3 Tesla MRI, ictal video-EEG, neuropsychological evaluation and sometimes also MEG, nTMS, fMRI, PET or SISCOM/ictal SPECT.
