Background: The definition of partial resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (pREBOA) is not yet determined and clinical markers of the degree of occlusion, metabolic effects and end-organ injury that are clinically monitored in real time are lacking. The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO) targeted pREBOA causes less metabolic disturbance compared to proximal systolic blood pressure (SBP) targeted pREBOA in a porcine model of hemorrhagic shock.
Materials And Methods: Twenty anesthetized pigs (26-35 kg) were randomized to 45 min of either ETCO targeted pREBOA (pREBOA, ETCO 90-110% of values before start of occlusion, n = 10) or proximal SBP targeted pREBOA (pREBOA, SBP 80-100 mmHg, n = 10), during controlled grade IV hemorrhagic shock.

Background: Since 2013 surgical units in Sweden have reported procedures to the national Swedish Perioperative Register (SPOR). More than four million cases have been documented. Data consist of patient ID, type of surgery, diagnoses, time stamps during the perioperative process (from the decision to operate to the time of discharge from the postoperative recovery area) and quality measures.

A score ≥1 in men and ≥2 in women, corresponding to an annual stroke risk exceeding 1%, warrants long-term oral anticoagulation provided the bleeding risk is acceptable. However, in patients with new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation, the optimal risk stratification method is unknown.

Methods and Results All patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting without preoperative atrial fibrillation in Sweden from 2007 to 2015 were included in a population-based study using data from 4 national registries: SWEDEHEART (Swedish Web System for Enhancement and Development of Evidence-based Care in Heart Disease Evaluated According to Recommended Therapies), National Patient Registry, Dispensed Drug Registry, and Cause of Death Registry. POAF was defined as any new-onset atrial fibrillation during the first 30 postoperative days.

Objectives: Prophylactic vaccination of youngwomen aged 16 to 26 years with the 9-valent (6/11/16/18/31/33/45/52/58) human papillomavirus (HPV) virus-like particle (9vHPV) vaccine prevents infection and disease. We conducted a noninferiority immunogenicity study to bridge the findings in young women to girls and boys aged 9 to 15 years.
Methods: Subjects (N = 3066) received a 3-dose regimen of 9vHPV vaccine administered at day 1, month 2, and month 6.

Background: There is limited effect of tyrosine kinase inhibitors or "naked" antibodies binding EGFR or HER2 for therapy of metastasized urinary bladder cancer and these methods are therefore not routinely used. Targeting radio-nuclides to the extracellular domain of the receptors is potentially a better possibility.
Methods: EGFR- and HER2-expression was analyzed for primary tumors and corresponding metastases from 72 patients using immunohistochemistry and the internationally recommended HercepTest.

Our aim in this pilot study was to evaluate the fixation of, the bone remodelling around, and the clinical outcome after surgery of a new, uncemented, fully hydroxyapatite-coated, collared and tapered femoral component, designed specifically for elderly patients with a fracture of the femoral neck. We enrolled 50 patients, of at least 70 years of age, with an acute displaced fracture of the femoral neck in this prospective single-series study. They received a total hip replacement using the new component and were followed up regularly for two years.

Aim: To investigate the occurrence of complications after a needle puncture or intravenous injection in the ipsilateral arm of women who have undergone axillary lymph node clearance for breast cancer.
Background: After axillary lymph node clearance in patients with breast cancer, some women experience lymphoedema and recurrent infections. To reduce the risk of these postoperative complications, most women are advised to not have intravenous infusions in, or blood samples taken from, the arm in the operated side.
Objective: In the quadrivalent (types 6/11/16/18) HPV vaccine (GARDASIL/SILGARD) clinical program, 73% of women aged 16-26 were naïve to all vaccine HPV types. In these women, prophylactic administration of the vaccine was highly effective in preventing HPV 6/11/16/18-related cervical disease. Of the remaining women, 15% of had evidence of past infection with one or more vaccine HPV types (seropositive and DNA negative) at the time of enrollment.

The patient-rated wrist evaluation (PRWE) form is an established outcome questionnaire designed to measure wrist pain and disabilities in activities of daily living. We translated and validated this score for use in Sweden. The original PRWE score was translated forwards and backwards, and then the responsiveness, validity, and reliability of the Swedish version were tested in 99 patients who were recovering from a fracture of the distal radius.

Unlabelled: Although the etiology of rectocele remains debated, surgical innovations are currently promoted to improve anatomic outcome while avoiding dyspareunia and alleviating rectal emptying difficulties following rectocele surgery. Use of biomaterials in rectocele repair has become widespread in a short time, but the clinical documentation of their effectiveness and complications is limited. Medline and the Cochrane database were searched electronically from 1964 to May 2005 using the Pubmed and Ovid search engines.

In a previous fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) study of patients with high-grade follicle centre lymphomas (FLCs), we often found additional copies of chromosome 7 in bone marrow (BM) cell nuclei even though obvious malignant tumour cells could not always be morphologically identified in the corresponding cell smears. This raised the question whether the gains of chromosome 7 are really confined to B-lymphoid tumour cells or whether other cell lineages are also of clonal origin. In the present investigation we employed FISH in combination with immunomarkers and morphological studies on BM smears and lymph node imprints from seven patients with high-grade FCLs and diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs).

Therapy with inhaled nitric oxide in oxygen requires adequate monitoring of nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide. The characteristics of chemiluminescence and electrochemical measurement techniques were determined by analysis of continuously flowing gas mixtures and comparisons with traceable gas standards. Gas mixtures were also diluted with mass flow controllers and in addition created in ventilator breathing systems.

Hemodynamic and non-hemodynamic factors contribute to the development of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The presence of LVH is an important independent risk factor for total mortality and for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Direct cardiac effects of LVH include an increased risk of developing of congestive heart failure, an increased risk of arrhythmic events, and a reduced coronary flow reserve, promoting myocardial ischemic episodes.

The neurohormonal control of the migrating motor complex (MMC) is not fully understood. The hypothesis of the present study was that neuropeptide levels might vary with the different phases of the MMC and that a similar variation might be found in the secretions of the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, plasma and intraduodenal concentrations of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), somatostatin (SOM), substance P (SP) and neurokinin A (NKA) were determined by radioimmunoassay every 10 min during two complete MMC cycles in eight male subjects.
