Determining the causative pathogen(s) of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children remains a challenge despite advances in diagnostic methods. Currently available guidelines generally recommend empiric antimicrobial therapy when the specific etiology is unknown. However, shifts in epidemiology, emergence of new pathogens, and increasing antimicrobial resistance underscore the importance of identifying causative pathogen(s).

NETs can be formed NADPH oxidase (NOX)-dependently or NOX-independently. NOX-independent NETs can be induced by activated platelets and are very potent in activating the endothelium.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Initially, COVID-19 is a disease that attacks the respiratory tract, but now the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are various, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Emergency surgeries such as mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for AIS must be performed without any delay even during the COVID-19 pandemic, to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Introduction: Liver fibrosis (LF) is the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM), produced by overactivated hepatic stellate cells, following prolonged transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) stimulation. The ability of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to improve LF has been reported. However, the mechanisms of MSCs to ameliorate LF through suppressing TGF-β and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) remains unclear.

Growing evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a pivotal role in viral infection. The objective of this study was to assess the association between the expression of miR- 150, hsa-let-7e, and miR-146a on cytokine expression during dengue infection. Dengue virus (DENV) strain SJN-006, a serotype 2 DENV strain of the Cosmopolitan genotype, isolated in Bali, Indonesia, was used to infect peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from healthy individuals.

Fatigue in advanced disease associated with palliative care: A systematic review of non-pharmacological treatments.

Background: Fatigue is a common complaint reported by patients with advanced disease, impacting their daily activities and quality of life. The pathophysiology is incompletely understood, and evidence-based treatment approaches are needed.

Aim: This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions as treatment for fatigue in advanced disease.

 Smoking is one of the most important causes of mortality and morbidity in the world, as it is related to the risk factor and etiology of respiratory-tract diseases. Long-term smoking causes both structural and functional damage in the respiratory airways, leading to changes in nasal mucociliary clearance (NMC).  The aim of the present study was to look systematically into the current literature and carefully collect and analyze results to explore NMC in smokers.

Presentation Of Case: A 55 years old male was suffered from traumatic Achilles tendon rupture for 3 months and was repaired with Krakow's technique in a medical center in Pemalang, Indonesia. After the surgery, the defect was revealed as another surgery was planned to cover the skin defect.

Background: There is a high incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy-induced vascular endothelial cell activation (VECA) is characterized by increased plasma levels of von Willebrand factor (vWF) and soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin), leading to the activation of endothelial cells and signaling cascades. The biological role of a disintegrin-like and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS-13) is to control the activity of vWF and consequently the risk of thrombosis.

Recurrent SARS-CoV-2 RNA positivity after COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Present study aimed to estimate the incidence of recurrent SARS-CoV-2 RNA positivity after recovery from COVID-19 and to determine the factors associated with recurrent positivity. (2) Objective: To evaluate percutaneous discectomy effectivity for decompressing LDH lesions. (3) Case Report: Three patients suffered from drop feet, numbness, and bowel and bladder problems due to LDH compression.

Experience of the first 6 years of pediatric kidney transplantation in Indonesia: A multicenter retrospective study.

Chikungunya in Indonesia: Epidemiology and diagnostic challenges.

Background: Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is often overlooked as an etiology of fever in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Lack of diagnostic testing capacity in these areas combined with co-circulation of clinically similar pathogens such as dengue virus (DENV), hinders CHIKV diagnosis. To better address CHIKV in Indonesia, an improved understanding of epidemiology, clinical presentation, and diagnostic approaches is needed.

Background: Reports of human rickettsial infection in Indonesia are limited. This study sought to characterize the epidemiology of human rickettsioses amongst patients hospitalized with fever at 8 tertiary hospitals in Indonesia.

Methods: Acute and convalescent blood from 975 hospitalized non-dengue patients was tested for Rickettsia IgM and IgG by ELISA.

Seizure Outcomes in Patients with Complete versus Anterior Corpus Callosotomy: Analysis of Outcome.

Introduction: Corpus callosotomy (CCT) is a palliative procedure to treat injurious drop attacks or multifocal/generalized seizures in which resection of the epileptogenic focus is not feasible. We are presenting our experience in treating intractable epilepsy patients by CCT procedures.

Methods: We observed 16 patients who underwent callosotomy (male to female ratio 7:9; adult to pediatric ratio 3:13).

Data from an observational study conducted from 2013 to 2016 in seven cities across Indonesia was used to estimate the incidence of leptospirosis and document its clinical manifestations in patients requiring hospitalization.

Background: MLC601 is a natural product formulation from Chinese medicine that is extensively studied in ischemic stroke. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) shares pathophysiological mechanisms with ischemic stroke, yet there are few studies on the use of MLC601 in treating TBI. Background: Chronic occupational exposure in textile workers lowers the pulmonary function and levels of sinonasal IgA. A herbal mask can protect the respiratory tract. This study aims to understand the effect of this herbal mask on the IgA levels and pulmonary function in textile workers.

Asian consensus recommendations on optimizing the diagnosis and initiation of treatment of hepatitis B virus infection in resource-limited settings.

Asia has an intermediate-to-high prevalence of and high morbidity and mortality from hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Optimization of diagnosis and initiation of treatment is one of the crucial strategies for lowering disease burden in this region. Therefore, a panel of 24 experts from 10 Asian countries convened, and reviewed the literature, to develop consensus guidance on diagnosis and initiation of treatment of HBV infection in resource-limited Asian settings.
