Aims: The use of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) among patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) remains suboptimal. The SMYRNA study aims to identify the clinical factors for the non-use of GDMT and to determine the prognostic significance of GDMT in patients with HFrEF in a real-life setting.

Methods And Results: The SMYRNA study is a prospective, multicentre, and observational study that included outpatients with HFrEF.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate peripheral varicose vein symptoms including ecchymosis and coldness by using the Venous Insufficiency Epidemiological and Economic Study-Quality of Life/Symptoms (VEINES-QoL/Sym) questionnaire.

Methods: A total of 1120 patients were enrolled to the analysis after the exclusion of 199 patients who did not match the inclusion criteria. Patients were asked to answer the VEINES-Sym questionnaire and questions about ecchymosis and coldness.

Aims: Early identification of patients at risk of adverse outcomes may increase the survival rates in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), but this can be difficult to predict in emergencies. The aim of the study is to evaluate immature granulocyte (IG), which can be obtained from simple hemogram tests in patients with UGIB, in terms of clinical use and as a mortality marker.

Materials And Methods: The patients diagnosed with UGIB between March 1, 2019, and September 30, 2019, were evaluated retrospectively.

Aim: Gender-related differences have been described in the clinical characteristics and management of patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, published data are conflictive in this regard.

Methods: We investigated differences in clinical and management variables between male and female patients from the ATA study, a prospective, multicentre, observational study that included 1462 outpatients with chronic HFrEF between January and June 2019.

Objective: Atherosclerosis is a chronic, progressive, inflammatory disease. Recognition of subclinical atherosclerotic vascular changes before clinical manifestation in an asymptomatic population is important for risk stratification and optimal management, which finally leads to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. We aimed to determine the risk of premature subclinical atherosclerosis by evaluating epicardial adipose tissue thickness (EATT) and arterial stiffness parameters in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

Effect of Tumescent Lidocaine and Epinephrine Infiltration on Blood Loss in Inferior Pedicle Wise-Pattern Breast Reduction: A Prospective Randomized Study.

Aesthetic Plast Surg

April 2021

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Karaman State Hospital, Universite Mahallesi 1984 Str. Number 1, 70200, Karaman, Turkey.

The idea of infiltrating epinephrine-containing solution in reduction mammoplasty with the aim of reducing blood loss dates back to 1985. Although its use is fairly common among surgeons, scientific evidence supporting such use has been feeble and inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of tumescent infiltration of lidocaine- and epinephrine-containing solution on blood loss in reduction mammoplasty.

Objective: Despite recommendations from heart failure guidelines on the use of pharmacologic and device therapy in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), important inconsistencies in guideline adherence persist in practice. The aim of this study was to assess adherence to guideline-directed medical and device therapy for the treatment of patients with chronic HFrEF (left ventricular ejection fraction ≤40%).

Methods: The Adherence to guideline-directed medical and device Therapy in outpAtients with HFrEF (ATA) study is a prospective, multicenter, observational study conducted in 24 centers from January 2019 to June 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is recently defined and can occur despite normal coronary conditions, but its prevalence was previously unstudied in Turkey.
  • The MINOCA-TR study involved 1,626 patients from 32 hospitals who met criteria for MI and underwent coronary angiography, revealing a 6.7% prevalence of MINOCA among those screened.
  • MINOCA patients tended to be younger, had a higher proportion of females, and presented with fewer common risk factors compared to non-MINOCA patients, indicating distinct demographic and clinical characteristics.

Objective: Obesity is associated with cardiovascular risk factors and is a major predictor of cardiovascular disease and mortality. This global burden affects myocardial function by inducing structural and functional alterations. Although subclinical left ventricular (LV) dysfunction is known in obese subjects, there is not sufficient information about overweight people.

Background And Objectives: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a common pathology of the circulatory system and is associated with a high morbidity for the patients and causes high costs for the healthcare systems. Arterial stiffness has been shown to be a predictor of cardiovascular events and mortality. The relationship between CVI and arterial stiffness using pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (Aix) was evaluated in this study.
