The infrapatellar fat pad of Hoffa is commonly injured but rarely discussed in the orthopaedic literature. Hoffa's disease is the extension of various traumatic events due to impingement and inflammation of the infrapatellar fat pad and known as a vague reason for anterior knee pain. Inflammation is foreground during acute phase of the disease while impingement due to fibrosis and scar tissue of infrapatellar fat pad plays a major role in the chronic phase.

Objectives: To compare the use of radiofrequency (RF) and electrocautery in partial nephrectomy without renal artery clamping for bleeding and tissue destruction.

Methods: Sixteen adult rabbits were randomized into two groups. Partial nephrectomy using a monopolar RF device without renal artery clamping was performed in 8 rabbits (RF group) and partial nephrectomy using electrocautery was performed in the rest (cautery group).

This case report presents three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) findings in the diagnosis of Eagle's syndrome that is characterized with an elongated styloid process or a calcified stylohyoid ligament causing craniofacial or cervical pain. We have performed 3D-CT in three patients suspected to have this condition. Coronal images were taken in two patients and axial images in one patient with a spiral CT scanner.

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with lymbic system dysfunction. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether or not the neuronal integrity in hippocampus and anterior cingulate gyrus is affected in PTSD as assessed by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Materials And Methods: Single voxel MRS was performed in 10 PTSD patients and 6 healthy subjects in two cerebral areas highly involved in the pathophysiology of PTSD (the hippocampus and the anterior cingulate gyrus).

Lumbar puncture or identification of the epidural space is technically more difficult in children. Prior obtained information regarding the distance from skin to the dura mater may be useful as leading to an increase in success. We studied the anatomy of the posterior lumbar spine at the L4-5 intervertebral space in 137 children, using ultrasonography.

Objectives: To determine the total sperm creatine kinase, HspA2 chaperone protein (creatine kinase-M isoform), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), LDH-X activities, and lipid peroxidation product (malondialdehyde [MDA]) levels in infertile men with varicocele and to examine the possible effect of varicocelectomy on these parameters.

Methods: Eighty-one men were enrolled in this study. The study population consisted of a control group (n = 25) and a varicocele group (n = 56).

The authors report a patient who was diagnosed with idiopathic orbital myositis based on the findings of diplopia, worse on right gaze, globe retraction on adduction and injection at the lateral muscle tendon insertion of the left eye. Although orbital myositis as a cause of acquired retraction of the eye is rare, they wish to emphasize the importance of globe retraction with injection over the recti as an important clue for the diagnosis of orbital myositis.

Carotid body tumor (CBT), the most common tumor of the carotid bifurcation, presents as a pulsatile mass. Cervical sympathetic chain (CSC) schwannomas are slow growing lesions originating from myelin-producing Schwann cells. They may appear pulsatile due to the displacement of vascular structures by the non-vascular mass and thus may mimic a CBT.

In miners exposed to coal dusts, coal worker's pneumoconiosis (CWP) can occur. The purpose of the present study is to better understand the relations between coal dust exposure and activities of blood plasma antioxidant enzymes, namely, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and lipid peroxidation end product malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration in coal workers with early and low grade simple CWP diagnosed by high resolution computed tomography (HRCT). Forty-three coal workers who had profusions of 0/1-2/2 according to ILO 1980 chest X-ray (CXR) classification, 43 coal workers without CWP (control group 1) and 44 healthy subjects (control group 2) who were randomly selected from the population register or recruited from the hospital staff were enrolled.

Both experimental and clinical studies have shown that oxygen-derived free radicals rise in the plasma after thermal injury and participate in the pathogenesis of tissue damage. Hence, various antioxidant molecules have been used in treatment of burn injury both experimentally and clinically. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), an active component of propolis from honeybee hives, is known to have potent antioxidant property.
