Background: Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (p-PCI) is pivotal in managing ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI); however, it introduces potential risks, such as contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pulse pressure (PP) and CI-AKI incidence in diabetic patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study conducted between 2021 and 2022, 590 diabetic STEMI patients undergoing p-PCI were categorized based on the presence of wide PP.

Background: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a motor neuron disease caused by mutations in the SMN1 gene. Nusinersen, an antisense oligonucleotide, has been shown to improve motor function in SMA patients. However, concerns regarding its renal safety remain as previous studies have linked similar treatments to renal toxicity.

Objective: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is a biomarker of insulin resistance and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is an important complication that causes poor outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and CIN and mortality in patients who underwent PCI due to chronic total coronary occlusion (CTO).

Introduction: Although there is no consensus in the literature, it is believed that the Soong classification system and fracture pattern are risk factors for plate removal in distal radius fractures.

Hypothesis: The aim of this large-scale study was to evaluate the relationship between Soong classification, fracture pattern, and implant removal in distal radius fractures.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 795 patients who underwent surgery using a volar locking plate for distal radius fractures at our clinic between 2005 and 2022.

Objective: Neurosurgical care is difficult to access in many scenarios. Aeromedical evacuation of acutely unwell neurosurgical patients from remote, isolated or poorly equipped locations can be considered. This article aims to provide a framework of logistical factors which deserve special consideration in the preparation of these patients for transfer.

Purpose: Aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of Pan-Immune-Inflammation Value (PIV) for overall survival (OS) in the localized RCC. We also tested the feasibility of incorporating the PIV into UCLA Integrated Staging System (UISS).

Materials And Methods: Retrospectively evaluated 197 consecutive ≥pT2a radical nephrectomy patients.

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, despite ongoing efforts to eradicate the disease. Recent advancements, including the rollout of malaria vaccines, such as RTS,S/AS01 and R21/Matrix-M™, offer new avenues for prevention. However, the rise of resistance to anti-malarial medications necessitates innovative strategies.

Purpose: One of the most common and significant complications following thyroid surgery is postoperative hypocalcemia due to postoperative hypoparathyroidism. This study aimed to observe the effect of parathyroid gland autotransplantation on postoperative hypocalcemia in cases of incidental parathyroidectomy in total thyroidectomy cases.

Methods: Patients who underwent bilateral total thyroidectomy surgery were retrospectively analyzed.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are chronic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis and inflammation. Serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin (SBI) is used to manage IBS and IBD and has shown prebiotic-like effects in ex vivo models. Re-establishing a healthy gut microbiome with novel treatments like SBI could help treat the underlying causes of these diseases leading to higher and sustained patient response.

Shoulder abscesses, commonly resulting from bacterial infections, can occasionally present with atypical etiologies and delayed onset. We report a rare case of a massive polymicrobial shoulder abscess developing two decades after an insect bite, emphasizing its clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and surgical management. A 65-year-old female presented with severe, progressively worsening right shoulder pain, a 20 cm swelling, and purulent discharge persisting for 15 days.

This study aimed to compare mucinous carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the appendix in terms of survival and investigate the risk factors influencing survival. The data for this study were retrieved from the SEER database (SEER Research Plus 17 registries). Patients diagnosed with appendix cancer between 2004 and 2019 were included.

Purpose: The most frequently used surgical procedures for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR), as well as single- or two-stage revision arthroplasty. The choice of surgery is made depending on the full maturation of the biofilm layer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biofilm formation and microbial growth using common PJI-causing agents and compare its development on the implant surface.

Objective: Psychosocial and genetic factors are considered to play roles in the etiological mechanisms of major depressive disorder (MDD). The involvement of miRNAs in the etiopathogenesis of depression and childhood traumas is still unclear. This study aims to reveal potential differences in miRNA levels between patients with depression and healthy individuals and assess their connection to childhood traumas.

Background: The prevalence of meningococcal carriage and serogroup distribution is crucial for assessing the epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease, forecasting outbreaks and formulating potential immunization strategies. Following the meningococcal carriage studies conducted in Turkey in 2016 and 2018, we planned to re-evaluate meningococcal carriage in children, adolescents and young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Methods: In the MENINGO-CARR-3 study, we collected nasopharyngeal samples from 1585 participants 0-24 years of age, across 9 different centers in Turkey.

Background: The relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is well-established. Recently, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) has been validated as a superior predictor of ASCVD, especially in individuals with mild to moderate hypertriglyceridemia. The EPHESUS study evaluated real-life hypercholesterolemia management and awareness of non-HDL-C in cardiology outpatient practices.

Objectives: To describe a novel technique for dissecting cadaver brains without damaging medial brain structures and surfaces, ensuring preservation for neuroanatomical study and training.

Methods: Ten adult cadaveric brains were dissected using the supracerebellar suprapineal approach under an operative microscope with 6x to 40x magnification. This approach allowed for the separation of the brain into two hemispheres while providing direct visualization of the third ventricle and preserving midline structures.

Objective: Current guidelines recommend the use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GpIIb/IIIa) inhibitors in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) only as a bail-out therapy. However, drug penetration to the jeopardised area may not be achieved due to impeded blood flow and increased microvascular resistance. Aim of our study is to investigate the impact of distal intracoronary GpIIb/IIIa inhibitor agent infusion in STEMI patients.
