In silico toxicogenomics methods are resource- and time-efficient approaches for inferring chemical-protein-disease associations with potential mechanism information for exploring toxicological effects. However, current in silico toxicogenomics systems make inferences based on only chemical-protein interactions without considering tissue-specific gene/protein expressions. As a result, inferred diseases could be overpredicted with false positives.

Compared with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) traditionally plays a very limited role in lung cancer management, although there is plenty of room for improvement in the current CT-based workflow, for example, in structures such as the brachial plexus and chest wall invasion, which are difficult to visualize with CT alone. Furthermore, in the treatment of high-risk tumors such as ultracentral lung cancer, treatment-associated toxicity currently still outweighs its benefits. The advent of MR-Linac, an MRI-guided radiotherapy (RT) that combines MRI with a linear accelerator, could potentially address these limitations.

Background: Air pollution is a risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the effect of air pollution on HCC risk in patients with hepatitis remains unclear.
Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 348 patients with chronic hepatitis who were tested for serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and for antibodies against hepatitis B core antigen (HBcIgG) and hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV) in 2022.

Heat stress significantly undermines the poultry industry by escalating rates of morbidity and mortality and impairing growth performance. Our recent findings indicate that Prinsepiae Nux extract (PNE) effectively stimulates the signaling pathway, a vital element in cellular antioxidant stress responses. This study further explores the prospective benefits of supplementing PNE into poultry feed to enhance broiler growth in heat-stressed conditions.

Biochemical response is an important prognostic indicator in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients receiving nucleotide/nucleoside analogues (NAs). However, the effects of air pollution in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) normalization remain elusive. This longitudinal study recruited 80 hepatitis B e antigen-negative CHB patients who received NAs.

Purpose: This research aimed to analyze electron stream effect (ESE) during magnetic resonance image guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) for breast cancer patients on a MR-Linac (0.35 Tesla, 6MV), with a focus on the prevention of redundant radiation exposure.
Materials And Methods: RANDO phantom was used with and without the breast attachment in order to represent the patients after breast conserving surgery (BCS) and those received modified radical mastectomy (MRM).

Food contact chemicals (FCCs) can migrate from packaging materials to food posing an issue of exposure to FCCs of toxicity concern. Compared to costly experiments, computational methods can be utilized to assess the migration potentials for various migration scenarios for further experimental investigation that can potentially accelerate the migration assessment. This study developed a nonlinear machine learning method utilizing chemical properties, material type, food type and temperature to predict chemical migration from package to food.

Background: Patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) may not always receive resection despite the possible achievement of a pathologic complete response (pCR) being associated with superior survival benefit. We aimed to compare outcomes among ESCC patients with or without pCR and those refusing surgery.
Methods: In total, 111 medically operable, non-cervical ESCC patients after the same protocol of nCRT (platinum/5-fluorouracil plus radiation 50Gy) were prospectively enrolled between 2011 and 2021.

Introduction: A potential association between epilepsy and subsequent type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has emerged in recent studies. However, the association between epilepsy, anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs), and the risk of T2DM development remains controversial. We aimed to conduct a nationwide, population-based, retrospective, cohort study to evaluate this relationship.

Background: Although uncommon, available evidence suggests that pneumorrhachis (PR) with spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) in adulthood is usually benign and self-limiting. This study aimed to review our experience and identify the risk factors of PR in pediatric patients with SPM.
Methods: Between September 2007 and September 2017, SPM in patients aged ≤18 years was retrospectively reviewed and clinical features and outcomes between SPM patients with and without PR were analyzed.

Background: Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS) is a rare malignancy that is notorious for recurrence. Surgical resection with clean margin is the current treatment of choice. However, owing to the large retroperitoneal space, RPLSs often grow to significant sizes before being diagnosed.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) is one of the most important environmental factors that cause extrinsic aging through increasing intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the skin. Due to its protective roles against oxidative stress, nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor (NRF2) has been traditionally considered as a target for skin aging prevention. Here, we identified the extract of Prinsepiae Nux, a top-grade drug listed in Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing, as a potent NRF2 activator by high-throughput screening.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) present a higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) due to chronic inflammation, which plays an essential role in atherogenesis. Hyperlipidemia is another risk factor for CVDs; however, the association between IBD, IBD medications, and hyperlipidemia remains controversial. We conducted a nationwide, population-based, retrospective, cohort study to examine the effect of IBD and IBD medications on the risk of developing hyperlipidemia.

Minimally invasive spine surgery reduces destruction of the paraspinal musculature and improves spinal stability. Nevertheless, screw loosening remains a challenging issue in osteoporosis patients receiving spinal fixation and fusion surgery. Moreover, adjacent vertebral compression fracture is a major complication, particularly in patients with osteoporosis.

Fatal vehicle crashes (FVCs) are among the leading causes of death worldwide. Professional drivers often drive under dangerous conditions; however, knowledge of the risk factors for FVCs among professional drivers remain scant. We investigated whether professional drivers have a higher risk of FVCs than non-professional drivers and sought to clarify potential risk factors for FVCs among professional drivers.
