Purpose Of Review: Rapid increase in the prevalence of myopia has been documented worldwide. Myopia, especially high myopia, is not only an important risk factor for having open angle glaucoma (OAG), but also has a strong linking with the progression of OAG. Since myopic axial length (AXL) elongation is associated with nonglaucomatous optic nerve head (ONH) and visual field abnormalities, myopia poses a challenge in differential diagnosis of OAG.

Extended reduction malarplasty for Asians with flat and wide face: Comparison with L-shaped osteotomy.

Background: Reduction malarplasty is effective in correcting prominent zygomatic body and arch in Asian populations, but periorbital zygomatic bony protrusion may not be sufficiently improved. In this study, we present the extended reduction malarplasty procedures to correct it simultaneously and compare the outcome with that of conventional L-shaped osteotomy.

This study investigated the influence of iterative reconstruction (IR) methods on computed tomography (CT) images when training convolutional neural network (CNN) models to diagnose pulmonary emphysema. To evaluate the influence of the IR algorithm on CNN, the present study comprised two steps: the comparison of noise reduction by IR algorithms using phantom examinations and the change in performance of CNN with IR algorithms using patient data. We retrospectively analyzed 97 patients.

The time course of the CMR findings was similar to that previously reported for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC), including the form of "broken heart syndrome.

Capecitabine May Accelerate Atherosclerosis and Causes Acute Myocardial Infarction in the Left Main Trunk.

We report a case of a 59-year-old man who developed acute myocardial infarction which is supposed to be associated with capecitabine administration. At the age of 57 years, the patient underwent a laparoscopic colectomy for sigmoid colon cancer and subsequently received adjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine. About one year later, he developed an acute myocardial infarction and was treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.

Effect of a mobile app chatbot and an interactive small-group webinar on COVID-19 vaccine intention and confidence in Japan: a randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: We investigated the effect of social media-based interventions on COVID-19 vaccine intention (VI) and confidence in Japan.

Methods: We conducted a three-arm randomised controlled trial between 5 November 2021 and 9 January 2022 during a low incidence (<1000/day) of COVID-19 in Japan in the midst of the second and the third waves. Japanese citizens aged ≥20 who had not received any COVID-19 vaccine and did not intend to be vaccinated were randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: (1) a control group, (2) a group using a mobile app chatbot providing information on COVID-19 vaccines and (3) a group using interactive webinars with health professionals.

Genetic variants associated with glaucomatous visual field loss in primary open-angle glaucoma.

Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is characterized by a progressive optic neuropathy with visual field loss. To investigate the genetic variants associated with visual field loss in POAG, Japanese POAG patients (n = 426) and control subjects (n = 246) were genotyped for 22 genetic variants predisposing to POAG that can be classified into those associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation (IOP-related genetic variants) and optic nerve vulnerability independent of IOP (optic nerve-related genetic variants). The genetic risk score (GRS) of the 17 IOP-related and five optic nerve-related genetic variants was calculated, and the associations between the GRS and the mean deviation (MD) of automated static perimetry as an indicator of the severity of visual field loss and pattern standard deviation (PSD) as an indicator of the focal disturbance were evaluated.

Intraoperative Identification of Perforator Spasm and Decreased Pulsation Using Video-capillaroscopy during Free Flap Harvest.

Temporary or prolonged vascular spasm can be appreciated when perivascular dissection is performed for microvascular reconstruction. Due to a lack of reliable assessment modalities, the resolution of spasm at the periphery of perforators cannot be determined by naked eyes or surgical loupes.
