Purpose Of Review: Rapid increase in the prevalence of myopia has been documented worldwide. Myopia, especially high myopia, is not only an important risk factor for having open angle glaucoma (OAG), but also has a strong linking with the progression of OAG. Since myopic axial length (AXL) elongation is associated with nonglaucomatous optic nerve head (ONH) and visual field abnormalities, myopia poses a challenge in differential diagnosis of OAG.

Purpose: Little is known about the effects of ambient atmospheric pressure (AP) on intraocular pressure (IOP) under ordinary conditions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of AP on Goldmann applanation tonometer-measured IOP (GAT-IOP) in normal eyes under everyday atmospheric conditions adjusting for effects of possible confounding factors including other climatic factors.
Methods: Data obtained from 2,431 normal healthy eyes of 2,431 subjects (mean age: 56.

The identification and accurate diagnosis of focal liver lesions are important in modern medicine, where diagnostic radiology plays an essential role. This review aimed to examine the hyperechogenicity and histopathological features of focal liver lesions. Hyperechogenic liver lesions can be either benign or malignant.

Background: Reduction malarplasty is effective in correcting prominent zygomatic body and arch in Asian populations, but periorbital zygomatic bony protrusion may not be sufficiently improved. In this study, we present the extended reduction malarplasty procedures to correct it simultaneously and compare the outcome with that of conventional L-shaped osteotomy.
Methods: A retrospective review of consecutive patients who received reduction malarplasty between August 2021 and September 2023 at our hospital was conducted.

Purpose: To report aging-associated change rates in circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (cpRNFLT) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer and complex thickness (MGCIPLT, MGCCT) in normal Japanese eyes and to compare the data in linear scaled visual field (VF) sensitivity of central 4 points of Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) 24-2 test (VF) to that in MGCIPLT in four 0.6-mm-diameter circles corresponding to the four central points of HFA 24-2 adjusted for retinal ganglion cell displacement (GCIPLT).
Study Design: Prospective observational study METHODS: HFA 24-2 tests and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) measurements of cpRNFLT, MGCIPLT, MGCCT and GCIPLT were performed every 3 months for 3 years in 73 eyes of 37 healthy Japanese with mean age of 50.

Background: In its normal anatomical relationship, the inferior vena cava is located on the right side of the abdominal aorta. Iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS) is a pathological condition in which a blood clot is formed due to blood flow obstruction when the left common iliac vein is compressed between the right common iliac artery and the vertebral body. Therefore, right-sided IVCS (RIVCS) is rare.

Background/objectives: To identify factors associated with disc/retina deterioration in stereo fundus photographs preceding that of the visual field (VF), as determined with a Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) (Structure First deterioration) and factors associated with the latter preceding the former (Field First deterioration) in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) with lower normal intraocular pressure (IOP).
Subjects/methods: Prospective cohort study. Ninety eyes of 90 patients with OAG and a baseline IOP < 15 mmHg participated in a 5-year prospective study without treatment.

This study investigated the influence of iterative reconstruction (IR) methods on computed tomography (CT) images when training convolutional neural network (CNN) models to diagnose pulmonary emphysema. To evaluate the influence of the IR algorithm on CNN, the present study comprised two steps: the comparison of noise reduction by IR algorithms using phantom examinations and the change in performance of CNN with IR algorithms using patient data. We retrospectively analyzed 97 patients.

Aim: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is regarded as a first-line treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at an early stage. When treated with RFA, tumor biopsy may not be performed due to the risk of neoplastic seeding. We previously revealed that the risk of neoplastic seeding is significantly reduced by performing biopsies after RFA.

We herein report a 49-year-old woman who developed "happy heart syndrome" while watching a family theater performance. She was followed up with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). The time course of the CMR findings was similar to that previously reported for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC), including the form of "broken heart syndrome.

At the age of 57 years, the patient underwent a laparoscopic colectomy for sigmoid colon cancer and subsequently received adjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine. About one year later, he developed an acute myocardial infarction and was treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.

Introduction: We investigated the effect of social media-based interventions on COVID-19 vaccine intention (VI) and confidence in Japan.
Methods: We conducted a three-arm randomised controlled trial between 5 November 2021 and 9 January 2022 during a low incidence (<1000/day) of COVID-19 in Japan in the midst of the second and the third waves. Japanese citizens aged ≥20 who had not received any COVID-19 vaccine and did not intend to be vaccinated were randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: (1) a control group, (2) a group using a mobile app chatbot providing information on COVID-19 vaccines and (3) a group using interactive webinars with health professionals.

Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is characterized by a progressive optic neuropathy with visual field loss. To investigate the genetic variants associated with visual field loss in POAG, Japanese POAG patients (n = 426) and control subjects (n = 246) were genotyped for 22 genetic variants predisposing to POAG that can be classified into those associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation (IOP-related genetic variants) and optic nerve vulnerability independent of IOP (optic nerve-related genetic variants). The genetic risk score (GRS) of the 17 IOP-related and five optic nerve-related genetic variants was calculated, and the associations between the GRS and the mean deviation (MD) of automated static perimetry as an indicator of the severity of visual field loss and pattern standard deviation (PSD) as an indicator of the focal disturbance were evaluated.

Temporary or prolonged vascular spasm can be appreciated when perivascular dissection is performed for microvascular reconstruction. Due to a lack of reliable assessment modalities, the resolution of spasm at the periphery of perforators cannot be determined by naked eyes or surgical loupes. To address this conundrum, we aimed to observe the state of perforator vessel spasm after flap elevation using video-capillaroscopy.

Indocyanine green, ultrasonography, and handheld Doppler can be used to evaluate blood flow at the donor and recipient site during microvascular reconstruction. However, these methods do not provide direct visualization and assessment of real-time blood flow. Video-capillaroscopy has been shown to be useful in clinical practice to assess microcirculation in rheumatologic disorders.

Objective: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is essential for surgical downstaging of early-stage breast cancer, but taxane administration is associated with neuropathy. We investigated whether eribulin induces less neuropathy than paclitaxel.
Methods: In this multicentre, randomised study (UMIN000012817), patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between December 2013 and April 2016 were randomly assigned to group E (eribulin followed by fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide; FEC) or group P (paclitaxel followed by FEC).
