This study examined factors influencing rural caregivers' decision to decline participation in a healthy lifestyle intervention. Eligible caregivers of rural children who declined participation in a healthy lifestyle intervention were interviewed regarding reasons for declining. Inductive thematic analyses were conducted for responses.

A Consultation for Pediatric Neck Mass Resulting in a Rare Diagnosis of Klippel-Feil Syndrome: A Case Report.

Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) is a rare congenital cervical vertebrae fusion syndrome characterized by the clinical triad of low posterior hairline, limited head and neck range of motion, and short neck. The gene defects described with this syndrome are involved in the maturation and differentiation of bone during embryological development. As such, related defects seen in patients with KFS include genitourinary anomalies, cardiac defects, neurological abnormalities, and other musculoskeletal anomalies.

Pseudo-Allergies in the Emergency Department: A Common Misdiagnosis of Hypersensitivity Type 1 Allergic Reaction.

Type-1 hypersensitivity reaction represents an acute IgE-mediated reaction that can cause life-threatening conditions, such as anaphylactic shock, angioedema, and airway obstruction. Other reactions that can mimic type-1 hypersensitivity reactions include IgE-independent mast cell degranulation, bradykinin-mediated reactions, leukotrienes-mediated reactions, and pseudo-allergies. We use the term pseudo-allergy in this article for histamine-mediated reactions that are mast cell-independent.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Qiwei Tiexie capsule (QWTX) is an improved form of a classical prescription of Tibetan medicine-Qiwei Tiexie pill. It has been employed in the treatment of a variety of chronic liver disorders, including liver fibrosis. Uncertainty still exists regarding the mechanism of QWTX action in liver fibrosis.

Cannabis Use: An Uncommon Cause of Hypokalemia-Induced Acute Paralysis.

Severe hypokalemia can have life-threatening complications such as significant muscle weakness, ileus, rhabdomyolysis, and respiratory failure. Here, we report a case of a 33-year-old male who presented with worsening lower extremity weakness and falls after smoking marijuana for six months. Initial labs showed severe hypokalemia.

Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma Presenting as Isolated Multiple Cranial Neuropathies: An Extremely Rare Case.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an uncommon malignancy of B-cell origin that typically involves the brain, eyes, and spinal cord without systemic spread. PCNSL typically involves the cerebral hemispheres, basal ganglia, or periventricular region. Isolated leptomeningeal PCNSL without any evidence of parenchymal involvement is very rare.

Definition and Clinical Evaluation for Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole Severe Acute Respiratory Failure.

Objectives: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX)-associated severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has gone underrecognized. Background and objective Urology residency match occurs through the American Urological Association (AUA), and hence information about the success of applicants in finding a match is not readily available. The average number of publications a successful urology applicant has when applying for residency is unknown. In light of this, we conducted this study to examine the number of PubMed-indexed research projects involving US senior medical students who successfully matched into the top 50 urology residency programs in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 match cycles.

Retrieval of Migrated Coils From Distal Cerebral Vasculature Using Stent Retriever: A Case Series.

The incidence of coil dislocation during an endovascular embolization of intracranial aneurysm is low but it can lead to serious thrombo-embolic complications. Therefore, coil displacement/migration often requires either retrieval or fixation of the errant coil with a stent. There are no standard recommended methods of coil retrieval.

Patients can present with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke-like symptoms, or other neurological symptoms due to compression of brain structures from enlarged collateral pathways/aneurysms.

Ascending Palatine Artery Embolization for the Treatment of Surgically Refractory Post-tonsillectomy Hemorrhage.

Severe uncontrollable surgically refractory postoperative bleeding after tonsillectomy is a rare but potentially life-threatening event. The efficacy of surgical interventions tends to decline with repetition, which leads to higher morbidity and mortality. Endovascular embolization of the external carotid artery branches as an effective treatment in surgically refractory post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage has been described previously.
