Adult spinal deformity (ASD) with osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVF) often requires vertebral body resection and replacement. However, postoperative mechanical complications (MC) have been unsolved issues. This study retrospectively investigated the risk of MC following anterior-posterior spinal fusion (APF) with vertebral body resection and replacement for OVF with ASD.

Reliable Performance of mALBI Grade-Based Risk Models for Predicting the Prognosis of Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma Receiving Atezolizumab Plus Bevacizumab as First-Line Treatment: Comparative Analysis of 13 Risk Models.

Aim: This study aimed to compare the prognostic performance of the risk models for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) receiving atezolizumab and bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) as first-line treatment.

Methods: Among 449 patients included in this retrospective multicenter study, we compared the prognostic performance of 13 risk models for the 12-month and 18-month survival status using area under the curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), and relative integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) analysis. We also constructed a calibration plot to assess the fitness of each model.

Clinical Utility of Serial Circulating Tumor DNA Analysis as a Minimally Invasive Biomarker in Advanced Urothelial Cancer.

Purpose: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis is an alternative to tissue biopsy for genotyping in various cancers. We aimed to establish a plasma ctDNA sequencing assay, then evaluate its clinical utility in advanced urothelial cancer (UC).

We experienced a rare case involving a patient with SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated cervical carcinoma who was successfully managed in the long term. A woman in her 40s presented with a chief complaint of abnormal vaginal bleeding.

A Prospective Phase II Trial of First-Line Osimertinib for Patients With EGFR Mutation-Positive NSCLC and Poor Performance Status (OPEN/TORG2040).

Introduction: Osimertinib is the first-line treatment for patients with NSCLC who have EGFR mutations and favorable performance status (PS). Despite the increasing clinical data on osimertinib, evidence for its use in patients with impaired PS remains limited. Therefore, a multicenter phase II trial (OPEN/TORG2040) was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of first-line osimertinib treatment in patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC and a poor PS.

We analyzed whole-genome sequencing datasets of 6,321 Japanese individuals, including patients with autoimmune diseases (psoriasis vulgaris, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) or multiple sclerosis) and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), or healthy controls. We systematically quantified two constituents of the blood DNA virome, endogenous HHV-6 (eHHV-6) and anellovirus.

The 'Japanese paradox' of total hip arthroplasty: where are we going?

Introduction: There is a worldwide trend toward 'revisiting' cemented total hip arthroplasty (THA). In Japan, however, cemented THAs accounts for 11%, and the percentage of cemented hemiarthroplasty is estimated to be less than 10%. This review was designed to reconsider the option of cemented THA and to encourage policy changes in Japan to support the best possible care for patients.

This study investigates the importance of nutritional status in the prognosis of uHCC patients receiving LEN and evaluates a new prognostic scoring system that combines the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and systemic inflammatory response. From 2018 to 2022, 484 uHCC patients treated with LEN (384 males, median age 73).

Participants with USN demonstrated limited eye movement scanning along a rotating bar, often fixating on prominent ends, such as the top or bottom.

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) causes adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) and HTLV-1-associated myelopathy (HAM) after a long latent period in a fraction of infected individuals. These HTLV-1-infected cells typically have phenotypes similar to that of CD4+T cells, but the cell status is not well understood. To extract the inherent information of HTLV-1-infected CD4+ cells, we integratively analyzed the ATAC-seq and RNA-seq data of the infected cells.

A handheld biofluorometric system for acetone detection in exhaled breath condensates.

As a marker of human metabolism, acetone is important for lipid metabolism monitoring and early detection of diabetes. In this study, we developed a handheld biosensor for acetone based on fluorescence detection by utilizing the enzymatic reaction of secondary alcohol dehydrogenase (S-ADH) with β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH, = 340 nm, = 490 nm). In the reaction, NADH is oxidized when acetone is reduced to 2-propanol by S-ADH, and the acetone concentration can be measured by detecting the amount of NADH consumed in this reaction.

Clinical Heterogeneity of Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis Type 13: A Case Report and Systematic Review of Literature.

Objectives: In this study, we describe a 54-year-old Indian woman who presented with clinical features of Kufs syndrome A (KSA) and Kufs syndrome B (KSB), as well as neuropathologic and genetic findings consistent with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 13 (CLN13). Subsequently, we review the clinicopathologic features of 20 patients with CLN13 reported in the literature.

The safety and feasibility of robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy: A multicenter retrospective assessment of 425 patients in Japan.

Background/purpose: The Japanese public health insurance system has recently covered robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD). This study aimed to review the results of RPD during the introductory period and elucidate its safety and feasibility in Japan.

Methods: Consecutive data of 425 patients who underwent RPD were retrospectively collected from 10 high-volume centers in Japan between April 2020 and September 2022.

Background: Low-gradient (LG) aortic stenosis (AS) has not been fully characterized compared with high-gradient (HG) AS in terms of cardiac damage, frailty, aortic valve calcification, and clinical outcomes.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes between each hemodynamic type of LG AS and HG AS.

Methods: The current study included 3,363 patients in the CURRENT AS (Contemporary outcomes after sURgery and medical tREatmeNT in patients with severe Aortic Stenosis) Registry-2 after excluding patients without indexed stroke volume or left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) data.
