Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated lymphoma poses a high mortality risk despite antiretroviral therapy (ART). Although intermediate- or high-grade B-cell lymphomas are common, anaplastic large-cell lymphomas (ALCLs) are rare and seldom affect the central nervous system (CNS). Herein, we present a case of HIV-associated ALCL with isolated CNS involvement that occurred following the discontinuation of ART that was administered after treatment with brentuximab vedotin (BV)-which does not cross the blood-brain barrier.

Background/aim: Soft-tissue tumors are difficult to differentiate as benign or malignant. Immune markers, such as the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) in serum, have been reported to be useful in the diagnosis and predicting prognosis of several malignancies. We investigated the diagnostic value of these immune markers in differentiating soft-tissue tumors.

Background: Postpartum dyspnea is commonly observed, but its cause is often unknown.
Purpose: To investigate postpartum dyspnea, we compared lung iodine mapping (LIM) using dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) between postpartum women and women suspected of having pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE).
Material And Methods: In this retrospective study, 109 women of reproductive age (50 postpartum women, 59 women unrelated to pregnancy) underwent DECT between March 2009 and August 2020.
The patient was an 83-year-old woman. CT scan showed a 20 mm mass in the surgical anatomy of the medial segment (S4)of the liver, but the patient refused to undergo surgery and continued periodic clinical follow-up. After 1 year and 3 months of initial examination, a CT scan showed an enlargement of 36 mm.

Backgrounds: Early gastric cancer (EGC) with mixed-type histology is a significant risk factor for additional surgery after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). On the other hand, Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric cancer (EBVaGC) with mixed-type histology is a favorable risk factor with regard to lymph node metastasis.
Methods: We performed EBV detection in 13 ESD-proven lesions in 13 cases of early gastric cancer with mixed-type histology using EBV-encoded small RNA1 in situ hybridization (EBER1 ISH).

Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD1), PD1 ligand 1 (PD-L1), and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I molecule play pivotal roles in T cell-induced anti-tumor immunity; however, the clinical impact of these parameters in resected malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) cases is unknown. We immunohistochemically evaluated the tumor infiltrated lymphocytes (TILs), PD1/PD-L1 axis, and expression of HLA class I in resected specimens from 58 patients with MPM who underwent extra-pleural pneumonectomy (EPP). Higher infiltration of CD3-TIL, CD8-TIL, and PD1-TIL, loss of HLA class I, and overexpression of PD-L1 by tumor cells (PD-L1 TC) or immune cells (PD-L1 IC) were observed in 34 (58.

One of the most important areas of anatomical knowledge for liver surgery is the plate system in the hilar area. Four plates comprise the hilar area plate system: the hilar plate, cystic plate, umbilical plate, and Arantian plate. Based on the theory that the cystic plate is continuous with the hilar plate, isolation of the cystic plate can be applicable to various scenarios in liver surgery.
