Achievements and Barriers in Hospice and Palliative Social Work Practice: A Qualitative Study.

Purpose: Hospice and palliative care is a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and care designed to meet the needs of patients and their families at the end of life. Social workers are essential members of the hospice team, but their role is not well understood. The purpose of this study was to explore achievements and barriers in hospice social work practice and to suggest strategies for enhancing the role of social workers.

A propensity score-adjusted HRV analysis of social avoidance and distress in patients with panic disorders.

Panic disorder (PD) may accompany elevated social avoidance and distress (SAD). Higher SAD in patients with PD predicts a poorer prognosis and response to treatment. As heart rate variability (HRV) reflects the self-regulatory capacity underlying SAD, applying HRV to distinguish PD heterogeneity would be clinically beneficial in formulating personalized treatment strategies.

This study aimed to examine ways to improve the quality of physical activity (PA) to address social problems related to obesity and being overweight among adolescents, through an educational approach. In this regard, the current study identified associations between factors that lead to sustained PA participation among middle school students participating in school sports club activities, and derived academic implications that can be incorporated into future school education programs. The researchers explored the relationship between perceived enjoyment, exercise commitment, and behavioral intention in middle school sports club participants.

Analysis of maintaining human maximal voluntary contraction control strategies through the power grip task in isometric contraction.

Power grip force is used as a representative indicator of the ability of the human neuromuscular system. However, people maintain the power grip force via different control strategies depending on the visual feedback that shows the magnitude of the force, the magnitude of the target grip force, and external disturbance. In this study, we investigated the control strategy of maintaining the power grip force in an isometric contraction depending on these conditions by expressing the power grip force as a person's Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC).

The effect of different depth planes during a manual tracking task in three-dimensional virtual reality space.

Unlike ballistic arm movements such as reaching, the contribution of depth information to the performance of manual tracking movements is unclear. Thus, to understand how the brain handles information, we investigated how a required movement along the depth axis would affect behavioral tracking performance, postulating that it would be affected by the amount of depth movement. We designed a visually guided planar tracking task that requires movement on three planes with different depths: a fronto-parallel plane called ROT (0), a sagittal plane called ROT (90), and a plane rotated by 45° with respect to the sagittal plane called ROT (45).

This study aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the "Preparedness for Transition to Survivorship Care Instrument" (PTSCI) for cancer survivors. A cross-sectional study of cancer survivors in Korea was conducted to test the reliability and validity of the PTSCI. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and concurrent validity tests were conducted.

Previous research has shown that the perceived visual complexity of an image is correlated with understandability of the image. It was considered that prior knowledge of the contents of an image makes images easier to understand, and thus reduces perceived visual complexity. In the present study, we examined the effect of prior knowledge on perceived visual complexity of texture images.

Estimation of One-Repetition Maximum, Type, and Repetition of Resistance Band Exercise Using RGB Camera and Inertial Measurement Unit Sensors.

Resistance bands are widely used nowadays to enhance muscle strength due to their high portability, but the relationship between resistance band workouts and conventional dumbbell weight training is still unclear. Thus, this study suggests a convolutional neural network model that identifies the type of band workout and counts the number of repetitions and a regression model that deduces the band force that corresponds to the one-repetition maximum. Thirty subjects performed five different exercises using resistance bands and dumbbells.

Here, we have performed the screening of various extracts that were prepared from flower petals grown from the bulbs of eight Lilium varieties, with a viewpoint to their applicability as a viable source of natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidants agent.

Assessing the Role of Urban Green Areas for Students' Quality of Life during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures have limited outdoor activities for many people, including university students who live inside the campus and far from their families. We investigated if and how the fear of COVID-19 had impacted visiting green areas and consequently the quality of life.

Methods: The assessments were taken through a questionnaire-based survey of the university students living inside the campus in two universities (Konkuk and Sejong universities) in Seoul, South Korea in 2021 (n=255).

Nanotechnology has been developed to deliver cargos effectively to the vascular system. Nanomedicine is a novel and effective approach for targeted vascular disease treatment including atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, strokes, peripheral arterial disease, and cancer. It has been well known for some time that vascular disease patients have a higher cancer risk than the general population.

Efficient learning representation of noise-reduced foam effects with convolutional denoising networks.

This study proposes a neural network framework for modeling the foam effects found in liquid simulation without noise. The position and advection of the foam particles are calculated using the existing screen projection method, and the noise problem that occurs in this process is prevented by using the neural network. A significant problem in the screen projection approach is the noise generated in the projection map during the projecting of momentum onto the discretized screen space.

Geometry image super-resolution with AnisoCBConvNet architecture for efficient cloth modeling.

We propose an anisotropic constrained-boundary convolutional neural networks (hereafter, AnisoCBConvNet) that can stably express high-quality meshes without oscillation by applying super-resolution operations to low-resolution cloth meshes. As a training set for the neural network, we use a pair between simulation data of low resolution (LR) cloth and data obtained by applying the same simulation to high resolution (HR) cloth with increased quad mesh resolution of LR cloth. The actual data used for training are 2D geometry images converted from 3D meshes.

Background: The purpose of the present study was to assess the daily protein uptake and its relationship with sarcopenia, as defined by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS), among elderly patients with hip fractures.

Methods: Forty-seven elderly patients with hip fractures were enrolled in this retrospective observational study. The main outcome measures included protein uptake, muscle mass, and grip strength for sarcopenia in elderly patients.

Background: Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) has been addressed as a cause of emotional distress among breast cancer survivors (BCSs). This study aimed to systematically review the evidence on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) designed to reduce FCR among BCSs.

This paper proposes a new duty-cycle-based protocol for transmitting emergent data with high priority and low latency in a sensor network environment. To reduce power consumption, the duty cycle protocol is divided into a listen section and a sleep section, and data can only be received when the receiving node is in the listen section. In this paper, high-priority transmission preempts low-priority transmission by distinguishing between high-priority preamble and low-priority preamble.
