May 1996

Department of Ophthalmology, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

Background And Objective: Myopic photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) using the 193 nm excimer laser is an effective and precise surgical procedure to correct myopia, but not without complications, such as corneal haze, over- or undercorrection, halo, glare, and myopic regression. Among these, myopic regression, which can reduce uncorrected visual acuity, is the most common and progressive long-term complication.

Patients And Methods: We evaluated 228 eyes that received successful myopic PRK with the Summit excimer laser (ExciMed UV 200LA, 5.

Rationale And Objectives: With the use of localized, water-suppressed in vivo 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), the proton metabolic alterations of white matter in patients with closed head injury (CHI) and healthy controls are evaluated, and metabolic alterations with Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) scores are compared.

Methods: Patients with CHI (n = 10) and healthy control subjects (n = 10) underwent MRS examinations using a stimulated-echo acquisition mode pulse sequence that provided 2 x 2 x 2 cm3 volume of interest in the left frontoparietal white matter. Proton metabolite ratios relative to creatine were obtained using a Marquart algorithm.

J Nucl Med

August 1995

Department of Radiology, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

The pagetic bones in the active phase of the disease with brisk lysis and sclerosis manifest intense tracer uptake on planar bone and SPECT images. Intense tracer uptake, however, can occur also in infections, dysplasias and metastases. Pinhole bone scintigraphy has been shown to portray specific diagnostic signs in a number of skeletal diseases.

Neuroimaging and functional examination in hydrocephalus: a comment.

Childs Nerv Syst

August 1995

Department of Neurosurgery, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

All the papers were of a high scientific standard, giving us clearly defined information that will be applicable in the diagnosis and further management of infantile hydrocephalus. Particularly interesting subjects were the comparison of CT and MRI in the evaluation of hydrocephalus and cine MRI, which allows evaluation of the CSF dynamic flows. CBF measurements with xenon CT/CBF imaging or transcranial Doppler examinations of CBF velocity are used much more for evaluation of the shunt indications for shunting and also for definition of the outcome of shunting procedures.

Aberrations of the p53 tumor suppressor gene in human epithelial ovarian carcinoma.

Gynecol Oncol

May 1995

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

Aberrations of the p53 gene in 26 surgical specimens of human epithelial ovarian carcinomas were examined by single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products. Seven (27%) of the tumors demonstrated a SSCP band shift in exons 4 to 9 of the gene, including 5 in the region encompassing exons 5 and 6, 1 in exon 7, and 1 in the region encompassing exons 8 and 9. Mutations were clustered in exon 5 in highly conserved regions of the p53 gene.

Pinhole skeletal scintigraphic manifestations of Tietze's disease.

Eur J Nucl Med

September 1994

Department of Radiology, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

Tietze's disease (TD) is a self-limited, non-specific, inflammatory condition of the upper costochondral junction (CCJ). Unlike in many other skeletal diseases, radiography plays a relatively minor role in TD because radiographic changes are frequently obscured by physiological costochondral calcifications. Bone scanning is a sensitive test for TD, but its specificity is low.

Local recurrence after surgery for gastric carcinoma: CT findings.

AJR Am J Roentgenol

November 1993

Department of Radiology, Kangnam St Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, Korea.

Local recurrence of gastric carcinoma after surgery is defined as histologic evidence of a tumor in the surrounding tissues of the resected stomach. Compared with the large number of articles describing tumor recurrence after colectomy for colonic carcinoma, few reports have been published on the CT findings after gastrectomy. We illustrate the CT features of local tumor recurrence after gastrectomy in 36 patients in whom recurrence was confirmed pathologically or by definitive findings on CT scans.
