Distribution of self-reported borderline personality disorder traits symptoms in a large-scale clinical population.

Introduction: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) traits play a crucial role in the prognosis of psychiatric disorders, as well as in assessing risks associated with negativity and impulsivity. However, there is a lack of data regarding the distribution characteristics of BPD traits and symptoms within clinical populations.

Methods: A total of 3015 participants (1321 males, 1694 females) were consecutively sampled from outpatients at the psychiatric and psycho-counseling clinics at the Shanghai Mental Health Center.

The utilization of atypical antipsychotics (AAPs) often leads to metabolic syndrome (MetS) in schizophrenia (SZ) patients. Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is an important MetS-related cytokine. To investigate the potential association between the MIF-794 CATT polymorphism and AAP-induced MetS in SZ patients, data from 375 chronic SZ patients who received AAP treatment for a minimum of one year were included.

A new horizon for neuroscience: terahertz biotechnology in brain research.

Terahertz biotechnology has been increasingly applied in various biomedical fields and has especially shown great potential for application in brain sciences. In this article, we review the development of terahertz biotechnology and its applications in the field of neuropsychiatry. Available evidence indicates promising prospects for the use of terahertz spectroscopy and terahertz imaging techniques in the diagnosis of amyloid disease, cerebrovascular disease, glioma, psychiatric disease, traumatic brain injury, and myelin deficit.

[Clinical and Mechanism Research Progress in Amelioration of Mild Cognitive Impairment via Meditation].

Mild cognitive impairment(MCI)has a high risk of progressing to dementia,with no recommended therapies.Recent studies have shown that meditation has huge potential to improve the cognitive function,with low cost and high safety,being suitable to be applied in the treatment of neurological and psychotic disorders.This paper reviews the application and prospects of meditation in treating MCI from the concept,clinical efficacy,and mechanism of meditation,aiming to provide reference for future clinical studies.

Berberine improves negative symptoms and cognitive function in patients with chronic schizophrenia via anti-inflammatory effect: a randomized clinical trial.

Background: Based on the neuroinflammation hypothesis in schizophrenia and known anti-inflammatory effects of berberine, the aim of the present study is to investigate the efficacy of berberine in treating negative symptoms and cognitive deficits in adult patients with chronic schizophrenia.

Methods: Enrolled participants were randomized to receive berberine or placebo for 3 months. The Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS), Trail-making Test A (TMT-A), Trail-making Test B (TMT-B), and Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (HVLT) were used to evaluate the negative symptoms and cognitive function at four-time points (baseline, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd month).

Effect of compassion fatigue on the caring ability of young psychiatric nurses: A dominance analysis and chain mediation model.

Aims: The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism by which three factors of compassion fatigue affect caring ability in young psychiatric nurses.

Methods: We used the Professional Quality of Life Scale and Caring Ability Inventory to investigate 309 young nurses in three psychiatric hospitals in Heilongjiang. Dominance analysis and chain mediation model were performed to explore the effects of three factors of compassion fatigue on caring ability.

Association between sleep disorders during pregnancy and risk of postpartum depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sleep disorders are common among pregnant females. However, its association with postpartum depression (PPD) is unknown. We aimed to assess if sleep disorders during pregnancy increase the risk of PPD by a systematic review.

Efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and agomelatine on sleep quality and biomarkers of adult patients with mild to moderate depressive disorder.

Background: Mild to moderate depressive disorder (DD), which accounts for much larger patient population, has been largely neglected in previous studies exploring the sleep quality of DD patients; in addition, most of these patients had comorbid insomnia. Thus, this study aimed to explore the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and agomelatine on sleep quality of adult patients with mild to moderate DD.

Methods: 100 participants were randomly divided into high-frequency rTMS group and sham rTMS group (n = 50 each).

Lamotrigine and Lithium Combination for Treatment of Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder: Results From Meta-Analysis.

Objective: The objective of this study is to observe the effect of combination of lithium and lamotrigine in treatment of rapid-cycling bipolar disorder (RCBD).

Method: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library in English and CBM, CNKI, WANFANG, and CSSCI in Chinese to find literature from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2020 related to the combination of lithium carbonate and lamotrigine for treatment of RCBD.

Results: Five comparison studies with 265 subjects of 131 cases in a study group and 134 cases in a control group met the inclusion criteria and were included for the final meta-analysis.

Paliperidone Extended Release Versus Olanzapine in Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Multicenter Study.

Purpose: Paliperidone is an atypical antipsychotic as effective as other atypical antipsychotics for schizophrenia. However, few studies have explored the efficacy of paliperidone for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of paliperidone extended release (ER) versus olanzapine in schizophrenia patients with either poor treatment response or intolerable adverse effects due to standardized antipsychotic therapy.

Comparative efficacy of targeted structural patterns of electroencephalography neurofeedback in children with inattentive or combined attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of three courses of different structural patterns of electroencephalography neurofeedback on predominantly inattentive attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD-PI) and combined ADHD (ADHD-CT).

Methods: Thirty-eight ADHD-PI and ADHD-CT children were selected and completed three courses of different structural patterns of electroencephalography neurofeedback according to their ADHD type. Before and after each course, relative power value of electroencephalography, including θ, β, α, SMR and their ratios (θ/β, θ/α), and eighteen integrated visual and auditory continuous performance test (IVA/CPT) quotients were obtained and compared.

Effects of Berberine on Gut Microbiota in Patients with Mild Metabolic Disorders Induced by Olanzapine.

Secondary metabolic disturbances in patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder may be attributed to olanzapine. It is important to prevent mild metabolic disorders progressing to metabolic syndrome. This study aims to investigate the effects of berberine on intestinal flora in patients with mild metabolic disorders induced by olanzapine.

The Economic Burden of Alzheimer's Disease in Zhejiang Province.

Background: The World Alzheimer Report has described and predicted the economic burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients in detail for four consecutive years. There was a large-scale national survey in China launched by Professor Jianping Jia in 2015, but it did not adequately represent the average economic burden of AD patients in Zhejiang Province.

Objective: To investigate the economic burden and main factors influencing Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Zhejiang Province.

Background: With the modification of DSM-5 mixed features specifier, a brief scale to screen mixed features in patients with mood disorders is needed in clinical practice. This study aimed to explore the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Clinically Useful Depression Outcome Scale supplemented with DSM-5 Mixed subtype (CUDOS-M-C) for the Chinese patients with mood disorders.

Methods: Overall, 300 patients with major depressive episode were recruited.

Purpose: Alzheimer's disease (AD), osteoporosis, and osteopenia are the most common diseases in older individuals and share some similar pathophysiological processes of degeneration. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between bone metabolic biomarkers, bone mineral density (BMD), and early-stage AD in men.

Methods: Forty-two male early-stage AD patients and 40 age-matched healthy older volunteers were enrolled.

[Exploring the clinical characters of Shugan Jieyu capsule through text mining].

The study was main to explore the clinical characters of Shugan Jieyu capsule through text mining. The data sets of Shugan Jieyu capsule were downloaded from CMCC database by the method of literature retrieved from May 2009 to Jan 2016. Rules of Chinese medical patterns, diseases, symptoms and combination treatment were mined out by data slicing algorithm, and they were demonstrated in frequency tables and two dimension based network.

Oxidative Stress Markers and Metal Ions are Correlated With Cognitive Function in Alzheimer's Disease.

We investigated oxidative stress markers and metal ions in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The serum levels of ceruloplasmin (CER), C-reactive protein (CRP), uric acid (UA), homocysteine (Hcy), copper, iron, and zinc were determined in 125 patients with AD (mild, n = 2 8; moderate, n = 42; and severe, n = 55) and 40 healthy control (HC) participants. Compared to HC, CER and UA levels were significantly lower in moderate and severe AD groups, whereas CRP and Hcy levels were significantly higher in the severe AD group.

Association between Polymorphisms of the AKT1 Gene Promoter and Risk of the Alzheimer's Disease in a Chinese Han Population with Type 2 Diabetes.

Aims: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactor disease that has been reported to have a close association with type 2 diabetes (T2D) where the v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1 (AKT1) plays an important role in the protein synthesis pathways and cell apoptosis processes. Evidence has been shown that AKT1 protein may be related to AD risk among patients with T2D. The aim of this study was to analyze the potential association between single nucleotide polymorphisms of AKT1 promoter and the risk of AD among patients with T2D.

[Forensic psychiatric cases of 534 mental disorders caused by traumatic brain injury].

Objective: To analyze the types of mental disorders caused by traumatic brain injury and the optimal time for forensic psychiatric appraisal. To explore the relationship between the degree of traumatic brain injury, the time of appraisal and the grade of intellectual deficiency.
