Purpose: For patients with incomplete cervical cord injuries, appropriate urinary management based on an assessment of voiding and storage function of the bladder is necessary for a better prognosis, especially during the recovery phase. In our review of medical records of such patients, we identified factors related to recovery of bladder function and parameters for predicting prognosis.
Methods: In this study, we included 234 patients with incomplete cervical cord injuries admitted to Kanagawa Rehabilitation Hospital.

In this case series study, we prospectively examined whether it might be possible to check the effect of spinal anesthesia (SA), based on the disappearance of lower extremity reflexes and spasticity, in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), in whom the effect cannot be confirmed by the pinprick test or by using the Bromage scale. In 40 patients with chronic, clinically complete cervical SCI who were scheduled to receive SA, pre-anesthetic examination revealed that the Babinski sign, patellar tendon reflex, and spasticity (assessed using the Ashworth scale) were all positive in 31 patients, while two of these three pre-anesthetic assessment parameters were positive in eight patients. The effect of SA in these 39 patients (97.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of epithelial abrasion on the corneal endothelium and Descemet membrane in rabbits and to compare the changes with those after excimer laser photoablation of the cornea.
Methods: Central epithelial abrasions, 6 mm in diameter, were created by mechanical removal of the cells, and the specimens were examined from 24 hours up to 30 days by transmission electron microscopy. Corneas that were photoablated by an excimer laser and nontreated normal corneas were investigated as controls.
