Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the use of eSource direct data capture (DDC) in clinical trials, aiming to improve efficiency in an oncology trial in Japan by analyzing data entry times and site visits.
  • Results showed no difference in speed of data entry between DDC and traditional methods, but DDC allowed for finalizing data four days sooner, and reduced time spent on site for data verification.
  • Overall, the study suggests that implementing eSource DDC can enhance efficiency, particularly depending on the study’s structure and the volume of data collected.

Objectives: The multidrug regimen with fluorouracil, leucovorin, irinotecan, and oxaliplatin (FOLFIRINOX) is widely used for recurrent pancreatic cancer after pancreatic resection. However, there are concerns about severe toxicities and poor tolerability of FOLFIRINOX in these patients because some suffer from surgery-associated malnutrition, weight loss, and diabetes mellitus. We evaluated the toxicity and tolerability of FOLFIRINOX in these patients.

Purpose: We wanted to clarify, in a large population, the reasons that peritoneal dialysis (PD) was interrupted and to propose appropriate strategies that might prolong the use of PD as a renal replacement therapy.

Patients And Methods: We enrolled 5 391 patients from 439 centers into the study. Each center used a worksheet to report details about patients who either transferred to hemodialysis (HD) or died on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) over a 6-month period from 1 April 2000, to 30 September 2000.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology and is associated with a wide variety of renal disorders including nephrolithiasis, hypercalciuria, hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, tubular defect, glomerulonephritis, and granulomatous interstitial nephritis. We report a case of renal sarcoidosis in which we could not detect any evidence of extrarenal involvements that was diagnosed by renal biopsy and abnormal calcium metabolism incompatible with chronic renal insufficiency. On laboratory findings, decreased creatinine clearance, proteinuria, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, and mildly elevated serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) were seen.
