To evaluate oxidative stress involved in Down syndrome periodontal disease and pathological premature aging, reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide (O) and hydroxyl radical (HO) in human saliva were measured using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. The groups consisted of 20 subjects in the Down syndrome (DS) child (DC) group (mean age 11.3 ± 4.

Background/objectives: Methods for predicting final mandibular length have been studied for many years. We aimed to estimate the final mandibular length at the end of the growth period by analyzing changes in cervical vertebral morphology using longitudinal lateral cephalograms.
Methods: Longitudinal lateral cephalograms of elementary school students aged 6-15 who did not undergo orthodontic treatment, collected between 1965 and 1973, were used.

Background Ninjin'yoeito (NYT), a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine, has shown potential in treating frailty and overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms. However, its effects are multifaceted and vary among individuals. This pilot study explored the use of topological data analysis (TDA) and natural language processing (NLP) to evaluate the effect of NYT on frailty in patients with OAB.

: The measurement of Hounsfield units (HU) during implant treatment planning is important. Currently, various manufacturers' implant planning software programs offer HU capabilities; however, their accuracy remains unverified. In this study, we aimed to validate the accuracy of HU values measured by implant planning software programs.

The Japanese Society of Oral Oncology and Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have jointly developed clinical practice guidelines for oral cancer (oral squamous cell carcinoma) to improve and standardize the quality of oral cancer treatment in Japan. The first, second, and third editions were published in 2009, 2013, and 2019, respectively, and the 2023 edition was recently developed. In the development of the 2023 edition, 60 clinical questions (CQs) were listed.

Purpose Of Review: Rapid increase in the prevalence of myopia has been documented worldwide. Myopia, especially high myopia, is not only an important risk factor for having open angle glaucoma (OAG), but also has a strong linking with the progression of OAG. Since myopic axial length (AXL) elongation is associated with nonglaucomatous optic nerve head (ONH) and visual field abnormalities, myopia poses a challenge in differential diagnosis of OAG.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between salivary lactate dehydrogenase (LD) levels, assessed using a test kit, and the community periodontal index (CPI) and to determine the feasibility and reliability of the test kit for screening periodontal disease in adults. The study included 205 patients (58.5% female, median and 25-75 percentiles of age 55.

Background: The potential of Ultra-Ma, an ultrasonic head stimulator, for the supplementary treatment of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) was evaluated in patients with various symptoms under poor control by drug therapy.
Methods: Patients with DLB treated with choline esterase inhibitor or L-DOPA, either alone or in combination, and who met inclusion criteria were enrolled. Four weeks of placebo stimulation was followed by 8 weeks of active ultrasonic stimulation and a 4-week follow-up.

Introduction Postoperative complications, such as surgical site infection and postoperative pneumonia, may be caused by oral bacteria. This study aimed to clarify the factors related to the bacterial count in the saliva of postoperative patients so as to standardize oral management methods before and after surgery. Methods This prospective observational study enrolled 54 patients who underwent major oncologic or cardiac surgery.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, now known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is a phenotype of the metabolic syndrome in the liver and is clearly associated with metabolic abnormalities such as hyperglycaemia and dyslipidaemia. Although the prevalence of MASLD is increasing worldwide, there is currently no consensus on the efficacy and safety of the drugs used to treat MASLD/metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Pemafibrate, a selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha modulator, was designed to have higher peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alfa (PPARα) agonist activity and selectivity than existing PPARα agonists, and in development trials, without increasing creatinine levels, lipid parameters and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were significantly improved.

Kiyoshi Shiga (1871-1957) was a renowned Japanese bacteriologist best known for discovering the dysentery bacillus. Born in Sendai during the Meiji Restoration, Shiga graduated from Tokyo Imperial University's School (later University of Tokyo) of Medicine and began microbiological research under Shibasaburo Kitasato. In 1897, during a dysentery () epidemic, he isolated and identified the causative organism (later named ) using Koch's postulates, laying the foundation for enteric disease research.

In odontoblasts, intracellular Ca signaling plays key roles in reactionary dentin formation and generation of dentinal pain. Odontoblasts also express several G protein-coupled receptors that promote production of cyclic AMP (cAMP). However, the crosstalk between intracellular cAMP and Ca signaling, as well as the role of cAMP in the cellular functions of odontoblasts, remains unclear.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate factors associated with outcomes after 3 months of instructed usage of hand-held digital devices (DD) in patients with acquired comitant esotropia (ACE).
Methods And Analysis: This prospective multicentre observational study included patients with ACE, aged 5-35 years, who used DD within 1 year of onset and were followed up for clinical findings and instructed use of DD. The outcomes were classified into four groups: cured, improved, unchanged and worsened.

Purpose: To assess the reasons behind the failure of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) installed in the buccal alveolar zone between the maxillary second premolars and the first molars.
Methods: Sixty patients (11 male, 49 female, mean age 21 years) were included. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the influence of the following factors on the presence or absence of TAD failure: sex, age, sagittal and vertical skeletal patterns, root contact, bone density, bone contact length, and presence of maxillary sinus perforation.

Salivary lactate dehydrogenase (LD) levels are a feasible and useful parameter for screening periodontal diseases. The periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) is useful to clinically assess periodontal diseases. However, PISA is difficult to calculate and PISA-compatible screening kits are required.

Introduction Hand hygiene is crucial for preventing healthcare-associated infections in dental settings. Despite its importance, the hand hygiene compliance rates remain unclear, particularly in dental university hospitals where teaching, research, and clinical practice intersect. This study aimed to establish a baseline of hand hygiene compliance rates in a dental university hospital, evaluate the effectiveness of direct observation in improving compliance, and compare practices among different categories of healthcare workers.
