Purpose: Evidence regarding the performance of digital dentures (DDs) fabricated using 3D printing is insufficient. This study aimed to evaluate patient satisfaction with conventional dentures (CDs) and DDs fabricated using 3D printing.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted between November 2017 and May 2020.

Abundant secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) in the mucus, breast milk, and saliva provides immunity against infection of mucosal surfaces. Pre-pandemic breast milk samples containing SIgA have been reported to cross-react with SARS-CoV-2; however, it remains unknown whether SIgA showing the cross-reaction with SARS-CoV-2 exists in saliva. We aimed to clarify whether SIgA in saliva cross-reacts with SARS-CoV-2 spike 1 subunit in individuals who have not been infected with this virus.

Background: The use of intraoral scanners (IOS) has facilitated the use of digital workflows for the fabrication of implant-supported prostheses not only for single missing teeth, but also for multiple missing teeth. However, the clinical application of IOS and computer-aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in implant-supported prosthodontics remains unclear. Effects of Tablet Size and Head Posture on Drug Swallowing: A Preliminary Examination Using Endoscopy in Healthy Subjects.

Tablet size and head posture have been reported to affect swallowing of medications, but no previous studies have evaluated their effects in detail. Our aim was to investigate for the first time the effect of tablet size and head posture on drug swallowing by endoscopic evaluation in healthy subjects. Round tablets (7 , 10 , 12, and 14 mm in diameter) were swallowed by 15 healthy adults with an endoscope inserted in the neutral, head flex-ion, and head extension positions.

Nociceptive Sensitization by Activation of Protease-Activated Receptor 2 in a Rat Model of Incisional Pain.

Postoperative pain and consequent inflammatory responses after tissue incision adversely affects many surgical patients due to complicated mechanisms. In this study, we examined whether activation of protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR-2), which is stimulated by tryptase from mast cells, elicits nociception and whether the PAR-2 antagonist could reduce incisional nociceptive responses in vivo and in vitro. Among the many kinds of periodontal bacteria, Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) is well examined in the general aspects and in a rat model. However, whether other periodontal bacteria work or react differently is not studied well.

Effects of magnesium sulfate administration in attenuating chronic postsurgical pain in rats.

Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) is a serious issue for many postoperative patients. Though there are numerous treatment options for the prevention of CPSP, none of them is optimal as the mechanisms of the transition from acute to chronic postoperative pain have not been elucidated. Ketamine and opioids have been administered for chronic postoperative pain treatment but induce severe adverse reactions and/or physical dependency.

Postoperative Pain Management in Patients With Ulcerative Colitis.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease. Pain management can be challenging in patients with IBD because there are limitations on the use of analgesics. Use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not recommended in patients with IBD because there is risk of relapse of IBD and an overall increase in disease activity.

An NRAS mutation in primary malignant melanoma of the lung: a case report.

Background: Primary malignant melanoma of the lung (PML) is extremely rare. No precursor lesions of PML have been identified, and little is known about the genetic mutations associated with the disease. Typically, 15-20% of malignant melanomas possess NRAS gene mutations, but no cases of NRAS-mutated PML have been reported in the English literature.

The effect of masticatory behaviour on generalized attention in heathy volunteers.

Aim: As our society ages, the number of people living with dementia also steadily increases. Some work has focused on masticatory behaviour as a form of daily health care that could help prevent cognitive impairment and dementia. However, it is not yet clear how masticatory behaviour influences various cognitive functions.

Background: We performed a questionnaire survey of medical doctors engaged in the management of dementia to identify the actual status of treatment for dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) in Japan.

Methods: Among participating medical doctors, we selected neurologists (Group N) and psychiatrists (Group P) because these physicians are usually involved in the management of DLB patients. The two groups were compared based on their diagnosis and treatment of DLB and in particular, parkinsonism.
