Common Iliac Vein Injury Due to a Rectal Impalement Wound Treated Conservatively.

BACKGROUND Iliac vein injuries usually require surgical intervention due to their high mortality rates. Although conservative management may be applicable in some cases of blunt trauma, the suitability of this approach for treating penetrating injuries remains underexplored. CASE REPORT A 51-year-old man sustained a common iliac vein injury following rectal impalement in a collapsing chair.

Quantitative Evaluation of Peripheral Nerve Injury in Endovenous Laser Ablation with or without Microphlebectomy: Prospective Cohort Study of 25 Cases.

This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate peripheral nerve injury (PNI) after varicose vein (VV) surgery using endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). Overall, 25 cases were analyzed. All patients underwent EVLA of the great saphenous vein (GSV) with or without resection of the varix of the GSV tributaries in stab and avulsion fashion (microphlebectomy).

Infectious Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair in a Patient with Myasthenia Gravis: A Case Report.

Long COVID among the first three waves of COVID-19 in Japan: a multicentre cohort study.

Objectives: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 significantly impacts Japan with a high number of infections and deaths reported. Long coronavirus disease (COVID) characterised by persistent symptoms after COVID-19 has gained recognition but varies across studies. This study aimed to investigate the differences in long COVID among patients hospitalised during Japan's first three waves of the pandemic.

Real-World Safety, Tolerability and Effectiveness of Nintedanib in Patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: Final Report of Post-marketing Surveillance in Japan.

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive, fibrotic interstitial pneumonia, which is characterised by progressive worsening of dyspnoea and lung function. Nintedanib treatment is recommended to slow IPF disease progression. The aim of this post-marketing surveillance (PMS) study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of nintedanib over 24 months in patients with IPF in a real-world setting in Japan.

Transportation for Patients with Stroke in Need of Mechanical Thrombectomy: A Simulation-Based Study in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

Objective: This study aimed to simulate patient transportation to a mechanical thrombectomy (MT)-capable hospital within 60 minutes, taking into account patient volume (demand side of healthcare) and hospital capacity to accept patients (supply side of healthcare).

Methods: Simulations were conducted in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The estimates of the annual number of patients with stroke eligible for MT in 2020 were based on the incidence of stroke by age group and the percentage of patients with stroke indicated for MT in existing publications.

Comparisons of echocardiographic findings of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units before and after the omicron variant propagation.

Purpose: Few investigational reports have evaluated the status of cardiovascular manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during the Omicron dominance period. In this study, we aimed to investigate the cardiac function parameters and clinical outcomes of patients with COVID-19 before and after the Omicron variant (OV) propagation.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 88 adult patients with COVID-19 who underwent clinically indicated standard transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in intensive care wards.

Population-specific reference panel improves imputation quality for genome-wide association studies conducted on the Japanese population.

To improve imputation quality for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted on the Japanese population, we developed and evaluated four Japanese population-specific reference panels. These panels were constructed through the augmentation of the 1000 Genomes Project (1KG) panel using Japanese whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, with sample sizes ranging from 1 K to 7 K individuals enrolled through the Biobank Japan (BBJ) project, and sequencing depths ranging from 3× to 30×. Among these panels, an augmented reference panel comprising 7472 WGS samples of mixed depth (1KG+7K) exhibit the greatest improvement in imputation quality relative to the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) reference panel.

Hyperenhancement of LA Wall by Three-Dimensional High-Resolution Late Gadolinium-Enhanced MRI and Recurrence of AF After Catheter Ablation.

: This study investigated the relationship between LA (LA) enhancement on three-dimensional (3D) late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) MRI and recurrence after catheter ablation in patients with AF (AF). : A total of one hundred patients with AF (mean age: 68 ± 9 years, 50% with paroxysmal AF) were included in this study. Each patient underwent a high-resolution 3D LGE MRI prior to catheter ablation, allowing for detailed imaging of the LA wall.

Currently, the detailed association between genotypes and clinical outcomes, including LVRR, particularly among children, remains uncertain.

In vivo functional significance of direct physical interaction between Period and Cryptochrome in mammalian circadian rhythm generation.

In the current model, the auto-negative feedback action of Period (Per) and Cryptochrome (Cry) on their own transcription is the hallmark mechanism driving cell-autonomous circadian rhythms. Although this model likely makes sense even if Per and Cry undertake this action in a mutually independent manner, many studies have suggested the functional significance of direct physical interaction between Per and Cry. However, even though the interaction is a biochemical process that pertains to the fundamentals of the circadian oscillator, its in vivo contribution to circadian rhythm generation remains undefined.

Background: The impact of kidney transplantation (KT) on left ventricular (LV) remodeling remains poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of KT on LV reverse remodeling, utilizing echocardiographic LV geometric patterns as a key assessment tool.

Methods: In 100 recipients who underwent living KT between 2012 and 2022, we evaluated changes in the distribution of LV geometric patterns (normal geometry, concentric remodeling, eccentric hypertrophy, and concentric hypertrophy) between baseline and 1 year post-transplantation.
