Introduction: Patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) lean forward with their trunks when walking, even if they can remain upright during static standing. However, it remains unclear which part of the spinal column is involved in forward trunk tilt and the details of the relationships between sagittal alignment during static standing and changes in dynamic parameters during walking. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the above by analyzing the walking motion of ASD patients using inertial measurement units (IMUs).

We report a patient in whom a primary high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) of the fallopian tube transformed into a carcinosarcoma at the site of peritoneal dissemination, and immunohistological analysis suggested the involvement of an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The patient, a 70-year-old woman, had an abdominal mass palpated on admission, and a laparotomy was performed after a close examination. The resected right fallopian tube was cystically dilated, and a solid mass was observed in its lumen.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), including anti-programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibodies, are significantly changing treatment strategies for human malignant diseases, including oral cancer. Cancer cells usually escape from the immune system and acquire proliferative capacity and invasive/metastatic potential. We have focused on the two immune checkpoints, PD-1/PD-L1 and CD47/SIRPα, in the tumor microenvironment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), performed a retrospective analysis of the expression of seven immune-related factors (PD-L1, PD-1, CD4, CD8, CD47, CD56 and CD11c), and examined their correlation with clinicopathological status.

Introduction: Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18) recommend early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) for low-risk acute cholecystitis (AC); however, some patients undergo delayed LC (DLC) after conservative treatment. DLC, influenced by chronic inflammation, is a difficult procedure. Previous studies on LC difficulty lacked objective measures.

Background: While many studies focus on the prognosis of individual neurological diseases, very few comprehensively compare and analyze real-world data of these diseases.
Objective: To address this gap in knowledge, in this study, we comprehensively analyzed the real-life data of patients with neurological diseases.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients with neurological diseases at three hospitals from December 1, 2016 to September 30, 2020.

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic significantly affected Japanese society and the health of its population. Despite this, few studies have evaluated the influence of the pandemic on patients with neurological diseases or dementia, which we assessed through the Tochigi Dementia Cohort Study.
Methods: Participants were divided into two groups.

When vancomycin hydrochloride (VCM) powder mixes with xanthan gum-based thickening agents in food, lumps or other property-related changes may occur. Previous studies have reported delayed disintegration and elution of the drug and its adsorption on to xanthan gum, which is the main ingredient of thickened food products. If the addition of thickening agents can affect the antimicrobial activity of VCM powder as previously reported, it might interfere with the treatment of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).

Background: Foot baths are used in complementary and alternative therapy to improve the duration and quality of sleep and reduce tension, anxiety, fatigue, and confusion. They are also known to improve the frequency of labor contractions and to increase their duration in women; thus, they are commonly used by midwives in clinical settings in Japan. However, the physical and mental effects of foot baths during labor are unknown.

Methods Data on the treatment administered (including conventional and Kampo medicine) and changes in common cold-like symptoms (such as fever, cough, sputum, dyspnea, fatigue, and diarrhea) were collected from their medical records. The primary outcome was the number of days without a fever (with a body temperature <37°C).

TSC-22 (TGF-β stimulated clone-22) has been reported to induce differentiation, growth inhibition, and apoptosis in various cells. TSC-22 is a member of a family in which many proteins are produced from four different family genes. TSC-22 (corresponding to TSC22D1-2) is composed of 144 amino acids translated from a short variant mRNA of the TSC22D1 gene.

Aim: We compared the efficacy and safety of insulin degludec/insulin aspart co-formulation (IDegAsp) twice-daily to a free combination of basal insulin degludec and GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide (IDeg + Lira) once-daily for patients with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy and oral antidiabetic drugs.
Subjects And Methods: Eligible patients were randomly allocated at a 1:1 ratio to receive either the once-daily dual injection of IDeg + Lira (n = 24) or twice-daily single injection of IDegAsp (n = 28). The primary endpoints were as follows: HbA1c changes over 52 weeks of treatment and the percentage of participants achieving HbA1c < 7.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease of unknown aetiology that causes irreversible joint destruction and has been known to present with not only various extra-articular symptoms, but also various autoimmune disorders. Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterised by inflamed and eroded mucosa. The prognosis of MMP can be poor, so early diagnosis and prompt initiation of therapy are necessary for optimal management.

Combination therapy with glecaprevir and pibrentasvir (G/P) has been shown to provide a sustained virologic response (SVR) rate of >97% in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the first published real-world Japanese data. However, a recently published study showed that the treatment was often discontinued in patients ≥75 years old, resulting in low SVR in intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis. Thus, our aim was to evaluate real-world data for G/P therapy in patients ≥75 years of age, the population density of which is high in "rural" regions.

Objective: The aim of this study was to show the surgical results of growing rod (GR) surgery with prior foundation surgery (PFS) and sublaminar taping at an apex vertebra.
Methods: Twenty-two early-onset scoliosis (EOS) patients underwent dual GR surgery with PFS and sublaminar taping. PFS was performed prior to rod placement, including exposure of distal and proximal anchor areas and anchor instrumentation filled with a local bone graft.

Werner syndrome (WS) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by physical signs and symptoms, including premature aging and scleroderma-like skin changes. The gene responsible for WS is the WRN gene. A significant proportion of WS-related malignant tumours are non-epithelial types, and the incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is rare.

Objective Regional disparities were observed in the outcomes of interferon (IFN)-based therapy for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in a Japanese nationwide study. However, whether or not these regional disparities are observed in the outcomes of direct-acting antiviral drugs, including sofosbuvir (SOF) plus ribavirin (RBV) therapy, remains unclear. Methods We conducted a multicenter study to assess the efficacy of SOF plus RBV therapy for HCV genotype 2 infection in Tochigi Prefecture and its vicinity, in which IFN-based therapy yielded a low sustained virologic response (SVR) rate.
