Skin prick testing and immunotherapy in nasobronchial allergy: our experience.

In the present study of 331 patients suffering from signs/symptoms of nasal allergy, 9 nasal polyps, allergic conjunctivitis and allergic asthma, who were referred by clinician, were taken up for diagnosis of allergy with skin prick test (Ten et al. Mayo Clin Proc 70(8):783-784, 1995) and subjective improvement of patients by immunotherapy. Out of 331 patients tested 321 patients showed significant positive results and rest of them tested negative for allergy.

The aortic arch gives rise to three classical branches, namely the brachiocephalic trunk, the left common carotid artery and the left subclavian artery. We report a rare variation of the left common carotid artery and the right vertebral arteries originating from the brachiocephalic trunk, and the left vertebral artery that was arising from the arch of the aorta, proximal to the origin of the left subclavian artery. Variations in the branching pattern of the arch of aorta can alter the cerebral haemodynamics that leads to cerebral abnormalities.

Differential modulation of α-1 adrenoceptor subtypes by antidepressants in the rat brain.

The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of chronic antidepressants treatment on the density of α₁-adrenoceptor (AR) subtypes in rat brain. Density of total α₁ and α(1A)- and α(1Β)-ARs was measured in cortex and cerebellum of rats treated with amitriptyline (AMI), desipramine (DMI) and fluoxetine (FLX), (10 mg/kg body wt), for 30 days, using [³H]prazosin in presence and absence of WB-4101. The density of cortical total α₁-ARs was significantly decreased with AMI (54%) and DMI (25%) treatment, without altering the affinity of the receptor.

Fetal varicella syndrome is a rare condition of the newborn, presenting with cutaneous scars, limb defects and ocular and central nervous system abnormalities. It is due to varicella or zoster developing in the fetus following maternal varicella infection during early pregnancy. We are reporting one such patient who presented with a linear, depressed, erythematous scar over the left forearm and axillary fold, with a history of maternal chicken pox during the first trimester of pregnancy.
