A Case of Subungual Exostosis With Early Postoperative Recurrence and Rapid Growth.

Subungual exostosis is a relatively rare benign bone tumor that occurs near the distal phalanges of the fingers and toes. Though it is similar to osteochondroma, it can be distinguished by its specific location and lack of communication with the medullary cavity. Although recurrence after surgical excision has been reported, no studies have examined the timing or progression of recurrence, nor have there been reports detailing the chronological imaging findings of recurrent cases.

Evaluation of Medial Meniscal Extrusion Using Radiography.

Recently, there has been increasing interest in medial meniscal extrusion (MME), but few reports have evaluated MME via X-ray. In this study, the amount of MME and meniscal height at the medial border of the tibia were measured via X-ray with gradation processing. The extrusion length divided by the meniscal height yields the meniscal extrusion ratio, which was used as an index.

Rapidly Destructive Coxopathy With Femoral Head Fracture That Is Similar to a Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis in an Elderly Woman: A Case Report.

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) generally occurs in adolescents but rarely in adults. Rapidly destructive coxopathy (RDC) is characterized by rapid joint destruction, including disruption of the joint at the femoral head and acetabulum as well as reduction of the joint space, within six to 12 months. The mechanism of RDC is likely multifactorial but has not yet been identified.

Patients with adult spinal deformity have various standing postures. Although several studies have reported a relationship between sagittal alignment and exacerbation of hip osteoarthritis, information is limited regarding how spinopelvic sagittal alignment changes affect hip joint loading. Usefulness of Post-labeling Delay for the Assessment of Bright Vessel Appearance by Arterial Spin Labeling.

Objective: This study was performed to clarify the differences in blood flow strength, blood vessel diameter, and post-labeling delay (PLD) by physical experiments, and to examine whether bright vessel appearance (BVA) can be observed by arterial spin labeling (ASL).

Methods: We introduced simulated blood flow (25 cm/sec, 12.5 cm/sec) using a specially made phantom of fixed tubes in a plastic container.

Two Cases of Periprosthetic Atypical Femoral Fractures in Patients on Long-Term Bisphosphonate Treatment.

The current definition of atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) excludes periprosthetic fractures. However, a few cases of bisphosphonates (BPs) -associated periprosthetic atypical femoral fractures (PAFFs) have been reported in the literature. Here, we report two rare cases of PAFFs that fulfilled the major criteria for AFFs in patients with prolonged use of BPs.

The pathogenesis of anterior choroidal artery (AChA) territory infarction includes various mechanisms, but hemodynamic causes are rare and difficult to diagnose. 77- year-old man, who had moderate left ICA stenosis and he had treated with STA-MCA bypass surgery for severe symptomatic left MCA stenosis 10 years earlier, was admitted with right hemiparesis and confused state. On admission, magnetic resonance imaging and angiography demonstrated patent bypass, but severe stenosis of left ICA with no opacification of the left AChA and A1 portion of the left ACA.

Comparison of Atypical and Osteoporotic Femoral Shaft Fractures in the Elderly: A Multicenter Study.

Background: In atypical femoral fractures, owing to the high rates of complications and delayed healing that accompany the plate fixation, the most favorable treatment is intramedullary nailing. Although there is insufficient evidence, plate fixation is chosen due to anterolateral bowing of the femur. This study compared the bone healing time and rates of complications in atypical femoral shaft fractures and osteoporotic femoral shaft fractures.

Reconstruction of a chronically ruptured Achilles tendon using an internal brace: a case report.

Background: We reconstructed a chronically ruptured Achilles tendon and the associated scar tissue using braided polyblend polyethylene sutures (FiberWire; Arthrex Inc.; Naples, FL, USA) and anchors.

Case Presentation: A 68-year-old Japanese man, who was being treated for right Achilles tendinosis, felt pain in his Achilles tendon when walking and started to find plantar flexion of his ankle joint difficult.

Enhanced bone healing and decreased pain in sacral insufficiency fractures after teriparatide treatment: retrospective clinical-based observational study.

The purpose of this retrospective clinical-based observational study was to evaluate the effects of teriparatide (TPTD) on clinical outcomes and radiologic findings of sacral insufficiency fractures (SIFs). Seven elderly women with SIFs received TPTD for at least 6 months. We evaluated the symptoms, pain, and radiological findings.

The norepinephrine precursor L-threo-3,4-dihydroxyphenylserine facilitates motor recovery in chronic stroke patients.

L-threo-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylserine (L-DOPS) is a precursor of norepinephrine. We reported that administration of L-DOPS to rats with ablation of the right sensorimotor cortex results in functional recovery from deficits in beam-walking performance. We al so reported that improvement in Fugl-Meyer Score (FMS) was significantly higher in an L-DOPS-treated group of chronic neurologically stable stroke patients than in a control group for 2 days.
