Although balloon angioplasty for femoropopliteal artery lesions has been associated with restenosis rates of up to 60% at 12 months, the mechanism of restenosis has not been fully evaluated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the vascular features observed on optical frequency domain imaging (OFDI) before and after balloon angioplasty of femoropopliteal artery lesions, and restenosis at 6 months. This study was a prospective multicenter single arm study.

Purpose: The management of subglottic stenosis (SGS) remains challenging. Although laryngotracheal reconstruction with a costal cartilage graft (LTR) has been widely performed, restenosis with cicatricial tissue may require long-term stenting, especially in patients with severe SGS. An anterior cricoid split (ACS) with long-term stenting has been shown to be useful for patients with mild SGS.

Background: Bochdalek hernia in an adult is very rare and often needs an immediate surgical repair for the herniation. Although its etiology and surgical techniques have frequently been reported, perioperative complications, especially cardiopulmonary problems, remain unknown. We reported two adults with Bochdalek hernia and reviewed the published literatures with a focus on these issues.

Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) occurs in 20-50% of patients with proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT). In this study, we aimed to identify potential markers of thrombolysis success at the early stage and to clarify the relationship between early thrombolysis success and subsequent PTS development in patients with acute DVT in the iliac vein. Fifty-two consecutive patients with acute iliofemoral DVT who were treated with catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) within 21 days of onset were enrolled.

Background: Therapeutic strategies for patients with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) remain controversial. The aim of the present study was to clarify the effectiveness and safety of teriparatide therapy in Japanese MRONJ patients based on a large number of case series with a multicenter retrospective analysis.
Patients And Methods: Between January 2012 and December 2016, 29 patients who were diagnosed with MRONJ at 10 hospitals were treated with teriparatide.

Objectives: Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a technology that enables microscopic visualization of lesions in real-time (optical biopsy) and has been successfully applied for clinical use in gastroenterology. Recently, it was also introduced for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) diagnostics. We previously designed a self-made CLE, which can provide bichrome images, with topical contrast agents that are safe for use in patients.

The antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of bacterial pathogens isolated from patients with complicated urinary tract infections were analyzed using national surveillance data. The data consisted of 881 bacterial strains from eight clinically relevant species. The data were collected for the third national surveillance project from January 2015 to March 2016 by the Japanese Society of Chemotherapy, the Japanese Association for Infectious Disease, and the Japanese Society of Clinical Microbiology.

Background: Although anticoagulation therapy could reduce the risk of strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), large-scale investigations in the direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) and AF catheter ablation (CA) era are lacking.
Methods: This study was designed as a prospective, multicenter, observational study and a total of 2113 patients from 22 institutions were enrolled in the Hyogo area.
Results: The mean age and CHADS score were 70.

Background: Amyloid PET plays a vital role in detecting the accumulation of in vivo amyloid-β (Aβ). The quantification of Aβ accumulation has been widely performed using the region of interest (ROI)-based mean cortical standardized uptake value ratio (mcSUVR). However, voxel-based statistical analysis has not been well studied.

Background And Aim: In Japan, the prevalence of autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is assumed to be very low. With the recent rapid decrease in Helicobacter pylori (Hp) prevalence, reports on AIG are increasing. This multicenter registry study aimed to clarify the characteristics of AIG, especially its endoscopic appearance.

Background And Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is commonly used to treat early-stage digestive cancer because it results in a higher frequency of en-bloc resection and a lower frequency of local recurrence. However, the efficacy and safety of duodenal ESD remain unclear. Therefore, present study is aimed at evaluating clinical outcomes of duodenal ESD.

Aims/introduction: Fat-specific protein 27 (FSP27) α is the major isoform of FSP27 in white adipose tissue (WAT), and is essential for large unilocular lipid droplet (LD) formation in white adipocytes. In contrast, FSP27β is abundantly expressed in brown adipose tissue (BAT), and plays an important role in small multilocular LD formation. In FSP27 KO mice in which FSP27α and β are both depleted, WAT is characterized by multilocular LD formation, and by increased mitochondrial abundance and energy expenditure, whereas BAT conversely manifests large oligolocular LDs and reduced energy expenditure.

Aim: A direct oral anti-coagulant, FXa inhibitor, has been applied to the clinical treatment of myocardial infarction (MI). Experimental studies in mice indicated that FXa inhibitors reduced atherosclerosis and prevented cardiac dysfunction after coronary ligation. These studies suggested that protease-activated receptor (PAR) 2, a major receptor of activated FX, may play an important role in atherosclerosis and cardiac remodeling.

Background: Postoperative pneumonia can be a fatal complication that may occur after lung resection in cancer patients. Some reports have shown that the incidence of postoperative pneumonia is decreased after esophageal surgery by perioperative oral care; however, there exist no data to suggest that a lack of perioperative oral care can be a risk factor for postoperative pneumonia after lung resection. To investigate the association between the preventive effect of oral care and postoperative pneumonia, we conducted a multicenter, retrospective study of lung cancer patients who underwent lung resection.
