Can CT predict the development of oroantral fistula in patients undergoing maxillary third molar removal?

Purpose: In maxillary wisdom tooth extraction, the necessity of CT is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether CT adding to orthopantomography is useful for predicting oroantral perforation during maxillary third molar extraction.

Methods: Various risk factors for oroantral perforation during maxillary third molar extraction were investigated by univariate and multivariate analyses.

Although laryngotracheal reconstruction with a costal cartilage graft (LTR) has been widely performed, restenosis with cicatricial tissue may require long-term stenting, especially in patients with severe SGS. An anterior cricoid split (ACS) with long-term stenting has been shown to be useful for patients with mild SGS.

Bochdalek hernia in an adult: two case reports and a review of perioperative cardiopulmonary complications.

Background: Bochdalek hernia in an adult is very rare and often needs an immediate surgical repair for the herniation. Although its etiology and surgical techniques have frequently been reported, perioperative complications, especially cardiopulmonary problems, remain unknown. We reported two adults with Bochdalek hernia and reviewed the published literatures with a focus on these issues.

Less frequent post-thrombotic syndrome after successful catheter-directed thrombolysis for acute iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis.

Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) occurs in 20-50% of patients with proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT). In this study, we aimed to identify potential markers of thrombolysis success at the early stage and to clarify the relationship between early thrombolysis success and subsequent PTS development in patients with acute DVT in the iliac vein. Fifty-two consecutive patients with acute iliofemoral DVT who were treated with catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) within 21 days of onset were enrolled.

Objectives: Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a technology that enables microscopic visualization of lesions in real-time (optical biopsy) and has been successfully applied for clinical use in gastroenterology. Recently, it was also introduced for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) diagnostics. We previously designed a self-made CLE, which can provide bichrome images, with topical contrast agents that are safe for use in patients.

The antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of bacterial pathogens isolated from patients with complicated urinary tract infections were analyzed using national surveillance data. Aims/introduction: Fat-specific protein 27 (FSP27) α is the major isoform of FSP27 in white adipose tissue (WAT), and is essential for large unilocular lipid droplet (LD) formation in white adipocytes. In contrast, FSP27β is abundantly expressed in brown adipose tissue (BAT), and plays an important role in small multilocular LD formation. In FSP27 KO mice in which FSP27α and β are both depleted, WAT is characterized by multilocular LD formation, and by increased mitochondrial abundance and energy expenditure, whereas BAT conversely manifests large oligolocular LDs and reduced energy expenditure.

Rivaroxaban Suppresses the Progression of Ischemic Cardiomyopathy in a Murine Model of Diet-Induced Myocardial Infarction.

Aim: A direct oral anti-coagulant, FXa inhibitor, has been applied to the clinical treatment of myocardial infarction (MI). Experimental studies in mice indicated that FXa inhibitors reduced atherosclerosis and prevented cardiac dysfunction after coronary ligation. Background: Postoperative pneumonia can be a fatal complication that may occur after lung resection in cancer patients. Some reports have shown that the incidence of postoperative pneumonia is decreased after esophageal surgery by perioperative oral care; however, there exist no data to suggest that a lack of perioperative oral care can be a risk factor for postoperative pneumonia after lung resection.
