Neurocytomas are rare low-grade brain tumors predominantly affecting young adults, but their cellular origin and molecular pathogenesis is largely unknown. We previously reported a sellar neurocytoma that secreted excess arginine vasopressin causing syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone (SIADH). Whole exome sequencing in 21 neurocytoma tumor tissues identified somatic mutations in the in 3/21 (14%) tumors.

Previous work at our institution treating arteriovenous malformation (AVM) with radiosurgery (RS) demonstrated superior nidus visualization and geometric accuracy with use of 3-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) compared to biplanar digital subtraction angiography. We have since adopted a unique radiosurgical protocol that utilizes 3DRA in the planning of linear accelerator (LINAC)-based RS delivered in a frameless manner. This study seeks to compare clinical outcomes between patients treated by this novel approach and those treated by our historic frame-based protocol.

Somatostatin Receptor Ligand Therapy-A Potential Therapy for Neurocytoma.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

June 2019

Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, California.

Context: Neurocytoma (NC) is a rare, low-grade tumor of the central nervous system, with a 10-year survival rate of 90% and local control rate of 74%. However, 25% of NCs will be atypical, with an elevated Ki-67 labeling index >2%, and will exhibit a more aggressive course, with a high propensity for local recurrence and/or craniospinal dissemination. Although no standard treatment regimen exists for these atypical cases, adjuvant stereotactic or conventional radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy have been typically offered but have yielded inconsistent results.

Valvular heart disease.

Prim Care

September 2000

Department of Family Practice, Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center, Los Angeles, California 90027, USA.

Given the high prevalence of valvular heart disease, primary care physicians need to be familiar with the most common valvular heart diseases and their clinical manifestations. Knowledge of the natural history of the most common valvular heart diseases is important because the onset of symptoms often is the point at which intervention becomes necessary. Most valvular heart diseases are amenable to surgical intervention, which can afford a symptom-free and relatively normal life span.
