Plast Reconstr Surg

February 2019

From the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital of the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research; the Department of Surgery, Hospital of the Divine Savior Vienna (Krankenhaus Goettlicher Heiland); the Department of Radiology, Kaiser Franz Josef Hospital; the Department of Systematic Anatomy, Institute of Anatomy, Center for Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical University of Vienna; and the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo.

Background: Harvesting the sartorius muscle and the iliac bone with a superficial circumflex iliac artery (SCIA) perforator flap can be a challenging procedure. The aim of this study was to describe the anatomical topology of the deep branch of the SCIA in fresh cadavers, which has not been reported in detail.

Methods: Twenty groin regions from 10 fresh cadavers were dissected.

Recently, von-Willebrand-Factor (vWF) has been shown to correlate with postoperative liver dysfunction (LD). Accordingly, "disintegrin-like metalloprotease with thrombospondin type1 motif" (ADAMTS13) is known to cleave vWF in less active fragments. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the diagnostic potential of ADAMTS13-activity (ADAMTS13-AC) to identify patients with postoperative LD after hepatectomy.

Objective: To analyze drug adherence, overall survival (OS) and hospitalization rates of patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) treated with arbiraterone acetate (AA), enzalutamide (ENZ) and their sequence in a real-life setting.

Methods: The database of the largest public insurance company in Austria was analyzed. All CRPC patients with at least one prescription of AA and/or ENZ between September 2013 and August 2016 in the pre-chemotherapy and post-chemotherapy setting were extracted and matched to the Austrian death and hospital admission statistics.

We aimed to assess the subjective sleep quality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its correlation with disease activity, pain, inflammatory parameters, and functional disability. In a cross-sectional study, patients with confirmed RA diagnosis responded to a questionnaire (consisting of socio-demographic data, the Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index, and the Medical Outcome Study Sleep Scale). Disease activity was assessed with the Clinical Disease Activity Index, and pain levels using the visual analogue scale.

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasia (pNEN) show increasing incidence and management is complex due to biological heterogeneity. Most publications report isolated high-volume single-centre data. This Austrian multi-centre study on surgical management of pNENs provides a comprehensive real-life picture of quality indicators, recurrence-patterns, survival factors and systemic treatments.

Isolated pancreatic metastases (isPM) are a rare metastasizing pattern in the natural history of renal cell cancer. Their clinical hallmark is that they are confined to a single organ, the pancreas, while all other organs are unaffected for a long time. Almost all workers in the field suggested that mechanical tumor cell propagation to the pancreas may be the mechanism underlying this metastasizing pattern.

Objective: To assess long-term reoperation rates and mortality after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and open prostatectomy (PE) as therapy for lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic enlargement.

Methods: The present study analyzes a nationwide database of all patients who underwent TURP/open PE during 2002-2006 and who were followed up for 8 years. Actuarial cumulative incidences of reoperation (TURP, urethrotomy, bladder neck incision) and death were calculated.

The aim of this study was to examine sexual health in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to analyse factors associated with sexual health with a focus on physical fitness. One hundred RA patients aged between 18 and 65 years were included in a cross-sectional study. Handgrip strength and knee extensor strength were measured with a dynamometer, and physical performance with the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB).

Studies examining thick skin of the thumb pad have challenged the existence of an arterial plexus in the papillary dermis. Instead of a plexus, discrete arterial units, interconnected by arterio-arterial anastomoses, were identified. We hypothesise that the dermal arteries of thin skin are arranged likewise and that there are fewer arterio-arterial anastomoses in the centre of an angiosome than in zones where neighbouring angiosomes overlap.

In-bore 3.0-T Magnetic Resonance Imaging-guided Transrectal Targeted Prostate Biopsy in a Repeat Biopsy Population: Diagnostic Performance, Complications, and Learning Curve.

Urology

April 2018

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Göttlicher Heiland Krankenhaus, Barmherzige Schwestern Krankenhaus, Sankt Josef Krankenhaus, Vienna, Austria.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic performance and complication rate of the in-bore magnetic resonance imaging-guided transrectal targeted prostate biopsy (MRGB) in a repeat biopsy population on the basis of a nearly 4-year learning curve (2014-2017).

Materials And Methods: A total of 142 consecutive males with previous biopsies and persistent suspicion of prostate cancer (PCa) due to high prostate-specific antigen level initially underwent MRGB in the case of prostate imaging reporting and data system (PI-RADS) 3-5 lesions. Cancer detection rate (CDR), number and length of cores, biopsy time, operator experience, complications, and prediction of clinically significant (cs) PCa (Gleason score ≥7) were investigated.
