The initial response of a local hospital in the earthquake zone during the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes: Injuries and challenges.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the type and number of traumatic injuries seen after devastating earthquakes and to evaluate the difficulties experienced in the treatment process in a primary affected center.

Methods: Out of the 2176 patients who were treated in the emergency department, 372 (199 male and 173 female) patients with complete data were included in this single-center retrospective study. In addition to the demographic characteristics of the patients, orthopedic injuries, other organ system injuries, type of injury, treatments, mechanisms of injury, and time of presentation to the emergency department were recorded.

Investigation of Neuroprotective Efficacy of Dexpanthenol in an Experimental Head Injury Model.

Objective: Dexpanthenol (DXP), which has known neuroprotective effects, has been shown to be beneficial in various experimental models and ischaemic diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible neuroprotective effects of DXP in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) model.

Bilateral Frontoparietotemporal Craniectomy for Traumatic Brain Injury: A Case Report.

There is no conclusive agreement on the optimal approach to managing severe traumatic brain injury. This article details the methodology and outcomes of bilateral frontoparietotemporal decompression surgery performed on a three-year-old patient with severe traumatic brain injury. As the patient had fixed dilated pupils, GCS (Glasgow coma scale) 4, and marked edema in the frontal and parietal regions, the Kjellberg approach was modified, and decompression including part of the parietal bone was performed.

Background And Aims: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common inherited disease, leading to premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) due to elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Achieving LDL-C goals is extremely important for preventing the complications of this fatal disease. We evaluated the management of FH patients with ASCVD in cardiology practice.

The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is high among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, which increases morbidity and mortality in this population and represents a significant financial burden for both the patients and the healthcare systems. Vascular calcification (VC) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and VC risk is higher in patients with CKD than in healthy individuals. Calcification inhibitors, compounds that inhibit VC, were discovered as a result of efforts to explain why some patients are spared.

Evaluation of Agreement Between Sweep Visual Evoked Potential Testing and Subjective Visual Acuity.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the agreement of visual acuity (VA) obtained with the sweep visual evoked potential (sVEP) method with the VA obtained with the Snellen chart. The secondary objective was to examine the effect of age and gender on agreement.

Materials And Methods: Best corrected VAs of subjects were recorded with the Snellen chart, and sVEP testing was performed according to the recommendations of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV).

Background: On February 6, 2023, an earthquake occurred in Kahramanmaras, Turkey, resulting in loss of life, injuries, and the displacement of thousands of people. The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting amputation and fasciotomy decisions in patients with crush syndrome, along with clinical laboratory parameters.

Materials And Methods: The study included patients over 18 years of age who presented with crush injuries and exhibited systemic symptoms.

Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) remains a challenging condition to treat despite recent advancements. This retrospective study aimed to assess the activity and tolerability of Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) PSMA-617 radioligand therapy (RLT) in mCRPC patients across multiple cancer centers in Turkey. The study included 165 patients who received at least one cycle of Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT, with the majority having bone metastases and undergone prior treatments.

Introduction: In this study, the toxicities and management of palbociclib and ribociclib in older patients (≥65 years) with metastatic breast cancer patients were investigated.

Materials And Methods: Among older patients receiving palbociclib and ribociclib, Geriatric 8 (G8) and Groningen Frailty Index were used to evaluate frailty status. Dose modifications, drug withdrawal and other serious adverse events (SAEs) were recorded and analyzed according to baseline patient characteristics.

Evaluation of Posterior Ocular Blood Flow in Diabetic Retinopathy Patients Without Macular Edema Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Aim: The objective of this study is to investigate and compare the superficial and deep vascular structures of the retina, as well as the changes in the choriocapillaris (CC) and optic disc microvasculature, using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM) without diabetic retinopathy (DR), patients with non-proliferative and proliferative DR, and healthy individuals.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study conducted between July 2020 and July 2021 included patients diagnosed with type 2 DM without DR, as well as patients with mild nonproliferative, moderate nonproliferative, and proliferative DR without macular oedema. A control group of 25 age- and gender-matched healthy individuals was also included.
