Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how initial vital signs and existing medical conditions (comorbidities) impact emergency medical situations for patients in the emergency department (ED).
  • A total of 10,022 patients were analyzed, identifying significant associations between specific vital signs and comorbidities with medical emergency conditions (MECs), including conditions like hypoxia and certain chronic illnesses.
  • The findings suggest that even patients with normal vital signs and no comorbidities can still present with MECs, highlighting the need for thorough patient evaluation beyond basic triage methods.

Background: Pre-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) nutritional status can potentially affect the length of hospital stay (LoS) after TAVR. The Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) is a widely recognised nutritional index. We aimed to determine the effect of PNI on LoS in patients undergoing TAVR.

Background: The cranial nerve (CN) V and adjacent neurovascular structures are crucial landmarks in microvascular decompression (MVD). MVD of CN V is the most effective treatment for patients with drug-resistant trigeminal neuralgia (TN) diagnosis. The endoscope-assisted retrosigmoid approach (RSA) provides better exposure and less cerebellar retraction in the corridor towards the cerebellopontine angle (CPA).

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the impact of psychological stress on erectile dysfunction (ED) in male patients following the Gaziantep-Kahramanmaras earthquake. The investigation aimed to establish correlations between earthquake-induced stress and changes in sexual function using International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scores.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on male ED patients from a Gaziantep urology clinic post-earthquake (March to August 2023).

: Silent cerebral ischemia (SCI) is defined as a condition that can be detected by biochemical markers or cranial imaging methods but does not produce clinical symptom. This study aims both to compare the frequency of SCI in PCIs performed with right transradial access and left transradial access and to evaluate the influencing factors. : A prospective, single-center study included 197 patients undergoing PCI via transradial access between November 2020 and July 2022.

Purpose: This study had two main goals: to determine which rhabdomyolysis patients need haemodialysis; and to highlight the significance of blood gas parameters, particularly base excess, as predictors of the need for haemodialysis.

Method: A total of 270 patients were included in this multicentre, retrospective study. Among the patients who were transferred in from the earthquake region and developed rhabdomyolysis, those with creatine kinase (CK) values >1000 U/L were included in our study.

Background: Crush syndrome (CS) is characterized by high morbidity and mortality due to severe electrolyte disorders, circulatory dysfunction, and multiple organ failure, secondary to severe rhabdomyolysis and reperfusion injuries. Acute kidney injury (AKI) related to crush syndrome is one of the life-threatening complications and is the most frequent cause of death following earthquakes, other than trauma. We conducted a retrospective study to identify predictive parameters from clinical and laboratory data that aid in recognizing CS, assessing its severity, and evaluating acute kidney injury and amputation indications in patients.

Background: Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is a common occurrence in individuals with insulin resistance (IR). Homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is a widely used surrogate marker of IR, although recent studies suggest triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a superior marker of IR that had a better accuracy to predict type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular outcomes than HOMA-IR.

Objectives: We aimed to assess the accuracy and usefulness of TyG index and HOMA-IR for predicting CMD as assessed with echocardiographic coronary flow reserve (CFR) measurement.
