Objectives: The purpose of this article is to present our experience with normal and abnormal fetal cardiac structures reconstructed in the HDlive silhouette mode (GE Healthcare Japan, Tokyo, Japan) with spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC).

Methods: Twenty-two fetuses with normal hearts and 1 fetus with a congenital heart anomaly (Ebstein anomaly) at 20 to 36 weeks' gestation were studied in the HDlive silhouette mode with STIC.

Results: In normal fetal hearts, 4 cardiac chambers and crisscross arrangements of the pulmonary artery and aorta were clearly identified.

We present a case of antenatal diagnosis of idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery by three-dimensional power Doppler imaging (HDliveFlow with silhouette mode). Two-dimensional sonography clearly demonstrated a 10.4-mm-diameter fetal pulmonary artery (PA), whereas the aorta (Ao) diameter was 5.

Aim: To investigate the utility of recombinant activated Factor VII (rFVIIa) for severe post-partum hemorrhage (PPH) in Japan.

Methods: We studied 69 patients treated with rFVIIa for severe PPH; 44 patients were from the registry of Japan Society of Obstetrical, Gynecological and Neonatal Hematology, and 25 were identified by a survey of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Results: Overall, the mean and median blood loss were 11 835 mL and 8639 mL, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fibrinogen concentrate in managing massive post-partum hemorrhage among patients in Japan.
  • Researchers looked at data from women who received the treatment from 2008 to 2013, focusing on factors like blood loss, transfusions, and fibrinogen levels before and after treatment.
  • Results showed a high survival rate (98.0%) but noted that the increase in fibrinogen levels post-treatment was sometimes insufficient, suggesting that while fibrinogen concentrate is generally safe and potentially useful, it might not always meet the necessary levels for effective hemostasis.

Background: We assessed placental perfusion based on placental vascular sonobiopsy (PVS) at 18-22 weeks of gestation in a low-risk population to predict fetal growth restriction (FGR) or pregnancy-induced hypertension [PIH; gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia (PE)].

Methods: PVS using three-dimensional (3D) power Doppler ultrasound with the VOCAL imaging analysis program was performed in 226 pregnancies [FGR, 25; appropriate-for-gestational age (AGA) 191; and large-for-gestational age (LGA), 10] [PIH, 13 (GH, 7 and PE, 6) and non-PIH, 213] at 18-22 weeks of gestation. 3D power Doppler indices such as the vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularization flow index (VFI) using PVS were calculated in each placenta.

The investigators present their experience with normal fetal cardiac structures and congenital heart anomalies reconstructed using 4-dimensional color Doppler with glass-body rendering mode and spatiotemporal image correlation. Two normal fetuses and 6 fetuses with congenital heart anomalies (1 case each of ventricular septal defect, Ebstein's anomaly, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and ductus arteriosus aneurysm and 2 of double-outlet right ventricle) at 26 to 36 weeks' gestation were studied using 4-dimensional color Doppler with glass-body rendering mode. In normal fetal hearts, blood flow through the 4 cardiac chambers and crisscross arrangements of the pulmonary artery and aorta were clearly recognized.

A 49-year man, with past history of right total nephroureterectomy due to urothelial carcinoma of the right renal pelvis in September 2006 and left partial ureterectomy due to contralateral ureteral recurrence in October 2007, underwent TUR-BT due to superficial high-grade recurrent bladder cancer. After TUR-Bt, he was treated with intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) instillation at weekly intervals. Just after 5th instillation, he suffered a continuous high fever up to 38 degrees C and complained of general fatigue.
