Objective: The number of patients during disastrous conditions was high, and triage is essential. In chaotic circumstances, orthopedic surgeons can also struggle with patient selection, not only for surgical selection but also for the necessity of hospitalization. So, the performance of the Injury Severity Score, New Injury Severity Score, and Trauma and Injury Severity Score was compared in victims who were struck under the wreckage and had fractures due to the Kahramanmaras Earthquake.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the occurrence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation in immunocompetent critically ill patients who have bacterial infections in their respiratory tract.
  • Out of 34 patients, 79.4% experienced CMV reactivation, particularly those with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and sepsis, although the differences in CMV DNA levels weren't statistically significant.
  • The findings suggest that CMV reactivation is linked to longer hospital stays and extended mechanical ventilation but does not correlate with increased mortality rates.

Background: Orthopedic surgeons face challenges regarding perioperative bleeding during the operations of pelvic and acetabular fracture cases. Although the recently popular tranexamic acid (TXA) has proven to be a useful tool, this study primarily aimed to conduct a retrospective comparative analysis of the results of the prophylactic administration of tranexamic acid during open fixation of pelvis and acetabulum fractures, especially regarding operative time and the amount of blood transfused; and in addition, share the results related to other findings including the management of the erythrocyte suspension use and overall cost as secondary aims and thus providing a comprehensive point of view.

Methods: The files of patients with pelvis or acetabulum fractures admitted to the Emergency Clinic of the Adana City Training and Research Hospital between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2023, were analyzed retrospectively.

Orbital roof fractures are uncommon craniofacial fractures. Due to the location of the fracture and the mechanism of trauma, it is often associated with neuroophthalmological injuries. The authors aimed to evaluate the results of conservative and surgical treatments of patients with orbital roof fractures and present our clinical experiences regarding optimal treatment planning, especially in cases of moderate or severe head trauma.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of surgical treatment in patients with acetabular fractures with a fractured quadrilateral surface treated using two different approaches.

Methods: The study included 106 patients who were operated on with ilioinguinal (group A) or modified Stoppa (group B) technique for acetabular fracture with a fractured quadrilateral surface between 2011 and 2020 in our clinic. The quality of reduction was evaluated according to Matta criteria and postoperative pelvic (anteroposterior, external oblique, iliac oblique) radiographs.

This study aims to compare the clinical and radiological results of patients who underwent plate-screw fixation and K-wire fixation in supracondylar femur fractures in the pediatric population. Patients aged 5-14 years suffering from supracondylar femoral fractures who underwent K-wire and plate-screw fixation were included in the study. Of all patients, follow-up period, age, fracture union time, gender, leg length discrepancy, and Knee Society Score (KSS) data were analyzed.

Objective The present study investigates the relationship between psoriasis and diseases such as health anxiety, depression, and somatosensory amplification. Methods The participating patients (n=117, including 60 psoriasis patients and 57 controls) filled out the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), and Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI) questionnaires. Results The mean scores from SSAS, HAI, and BDI were significantly higher in the psoriasis group than in the control group (p<0.

Objective The objective of this study is to evaluate the somatosensory amplification, as well as anxiety and depression levels in acne vulgaris (AV) patients, and to examine their relationship with disease severity. Methods Sociodemographic form, Global Acne Grading System (GAGS), Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were applied to the patient group. All scales, except GAGS, were also applied to the healthy controls.

Background: This study aimed to explore the relationship between the complications and clinical outcomes after intertrochanteric femoral fracture surgery, and the Singh index (SI), canal-calcar ratio (CCR), cortical thickness index (CTI), and canal flare index (CFI) - the radiological indices defining proximal femoral morphology in the literature - among patients over 60 years of age.

Methods: The data of 350 patients who were operated between 2015 and 2019 were evaluated retrospectively. The study included patients who underwent dual lag screw proximal femoral nailing and had good intraoperative reduction quality according to Fogagnolo's criteria.

Background: Elderly patients with hip fractures have a high post-operative 1-year mortality rate. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio (TLR), and monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR) with mortality.

Methods: The data of 350 patients who suffered femoral intertrochanteric fractures between January 2015 and January 2020 were examined, and the demographic data of 124 patients who met the study criteria were evaluated.

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to compare the levels of serum uric acid and uric acid/creatinine ratios in patients with COPD during an attack or in stable COPD, and to show whether serum uric acid and uric acid/creatinine ratios are associated with early mortality in COPD patients during an acute attack.

Materials And Methods: In this study, COPD acute attack (n=155) and stable COPD (n=30) patients were evaluated. The data of these patients were obtained from patient files and computer records.
