Background: The management of mandibular condylar fracture remains controversial many surgeons still favour the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) which provides good result and immediate functioning as compared to closed reduction. With proven consensus for ORIF, dilemma remains in choosing the surgical approach to condyle due to proximity of complex and important anatomic structure. Various extra-oral surgical approaches are available for ORIF including preauricular, submandibular, retromandibular, transmasseteric anteroparotid etc.

Flapless closure of oro-antral communication with PRF membrane and composite of PRF and collagen - a technical note.

J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg

November 2019

Department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, K.V.G. dental college and hospital, Sullia. Dakshin Kannada, Karnataka, India.

The incidence of oro-antral communication during removal of maxillary posterior teeth, especially the molars is quite common in general dental practice. The diagnosis and surgical management of oro-antral communication requires the surgical skills including the flap techniques. Here we present the novel technique of immediate closure of oro-antral communication using the PRF in the form of membrane and mixture of PRF and collagen, which is, sandwiched between the PRF membranes for effective management of oro-antral communications which does not require higher surgical skills.

Orthodontic brackets made from stainless steel were introduced in dentistry, though they have less ability in reducing enamel demineralization and are not successful in preventing microbial as well as biofilm growth. In this study, we evaluated the significant role of different brackets in reducing enamel demineralization indirectly. Results from different tests indicate the significant reduction in adhesion, biofilm formation and slow growth of tested bacterial species on brackets coated with Ag + TiO2 and found to be statistically significant lower than control.
