Introduction: There is high paediatric morbidity and mortality in northwestern Nigeria, attributable in part to vaccine-preventable illnesses and lack of comprehensive training of medical and nursing staff in the healthcare delivery of paediatric critical care. Pediatric Universal Life-Saving Effort Inc. (PULSE), a New York-based nonprofit organisation with a mission to develop paediatric critical care in resource-limited settings, collaborated with Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital to decrease the gaps in knowledge and skills of medical and nursing personnel.

Purpose: This practice parameter aims to detail the processes, qualifications of personnel, patient selection, equipment, patient and personnel safety, documentation, and quality control and improvement necessary for an HDR brachytherapy program.
Methods And Materials: This practice parameter was revised collaboratively by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
Results: Brachytherapy is a radiotherapeutic modality in which radionuclide or electronic sources are used to deliver a radiation dose at a distance of up to a few centimeters by surface, intracavitary, intraluminal, or interstitial application.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of telepractice in voice intervention for female teachers in elementary schools with self-reported voice disorders.
Methods: Thirty-five female elementary school teachers with self-reported voice disorders volunteered to participate in the study. They were divided into a telepractice voice intervention group (experimental group N=18) and a face-to-face voice intervention group (control group N=17) based on their employment setting.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic condition commonly consisting of allodynia, paresthesias, skin and temperature changes, and motor dysfunction. CRPS is relatively rare and classically develops in a limb after sustaining a traumatic or surgical insult. To date, CRPS developing in a previously uninjured limb after prolonged immobilization has not yet been reported.

Prolonged symptoms from the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), otherwise known as long COVID, postacute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), or post-COVID syndrome, are affecting an increasingly high number of patients after severe, moderate, and mild acute COVID-19 infections. Using evidence-based practice strategies, this case report describes occupational therapy evaluation and treatment approaches, plan of care, and associated outcomes for one client experiencing long COVID symptoms in the outpatient setting.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has presented unique challenges for occupational therapy practitioners working in acute and critical care settings. Using the best available evidence, this case report overviews a prototypical COVID-19 disease course and discusses key aspects of clinical reasoning for practitioners working with this novel population. Following a single patient admitted to a tertiary academic medical center, the authors review the occupational profile and medical history, common impairments, the intervention plan, and strategies to align the occupational therapy and medical goals of care.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- to mid-term outcomes of descending thoracic aortic aneurysm (DTAA) repair from the Gore Global Registry for Endovascular Aortic Treatment (GREAT).
Methods: This is a multicentre sponsored prospective observational cohort registry. The study population comprised those treated for DTAA receiving GORE thoracic aortic devices for DTAA repair between August 2010 and October 2016.

Abnormal spinopelvic motion from spine pathology is associated with inferior outcomes after total hip arthroplasty, including inferior patient-reported outcomes, increased rates of instability, and higher revision rates. Identifying these high-risk patients preoperatively is important to conduct the appropriate workup and formulate a surgical plan. Standing and sitting lateral spinopelvic radiographs are able to identify and quantify abnormal spinopelvic motion.

Night shift workers are often associated with circadian misalignment and physical discomfort, which may lead to burnout and decreased work performance. Moreover, the irregular work hours can lead to significant negative health outcomes such as poor eating habits, smoking, and being sedentary more often. This paper uses commercial wearable sensors to explore correlates and differences in the level of physical activity, sleep, and circadian misalignment indicators among day shift nurses and night shift nurses.

Sleep is a basic human need that is required for good health and overall well-being. Adequate sleep is critical for cognitive functioning, memory consolidation, and emotional regulation by rejuvenating the body. Sleep may not be of significant concern unless it becomes lacking or disturbed as it alters the immune function, neurological processes, and intellectual and decision making of individuals.

High-risk prostate cancer (PCa) is associated with higher rates of biochemical recurrence, clinical recurrence, metastasis, and PCa-specific death, compared to low-and intermediate-risk disease. Herein, we review the various definitions of high-risk PCa, describe the rationale for neoadjuvant therapy prior to radical prostatectomy, and summarize the contemporary data on neoadjuvant therapies. Since the 1990s, several randomized trials of neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) have consistently demonstrated improved pathological parameters, specifically tumor downstaging and reduced extraprostatic extension, seminal vesicle invasion, and positive surgical margins without improvements in cancer-specific or overall survival.

Purpose: Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring has been well documented as an adjunctive technique that significantly decreases the risk of developing inadvertent sensory and motor deficits during cranial and spine surgeries. The ability to detect neurologic problems intraoperatively depends largely on accurately identifying changes that occur in somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) and motor evoked potentials (MEPs) during each procedure. Therefore, obtaining accurate and reproducible SSEP and MEP data during the initial setup is paramount for intraoperative monitoring.

Purpose: Standing electric scooters are a relatively new mode of transportation that are becoming increasingly popular in large metropolitan areas. The purpose of this study was to characterize injury patterns and identify risk factors for craniomaxillofacial injuries in standing electric scooter accidents.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used a Clinical Data Warehouse search engine to identify patients who sustained standing electric scooter accidents from 2017 to 2019 using the International Classification of Diseases 10 revision codes.

Background: Untreated gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can lead to Barrett's esophagus and an increased risk for esophageal adenocarcinoma. Magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) is a safe and effective modality for the treatment of GERD. Preliminary research on short-term outcomes after MSA demonstrated significant regression of Barrett's.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) is a safe and effective treatment for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). MSA was initially indicated for patients with GERD and concomitant hiatal hernias < 3 cm. However, excellent short- and intermediate-term outcomes following MSA and hiatal hernia repair in patients with hiatal hernias ≥ 3 cm have been reported.

Background: Recurrence of hiatal hernia after anti-reflux surgery is common, with past studies reporting recurrence rates of 10-15%. Most patients experience relief from GERD symptoms following initial repair; however, those suffering from recurrence can have symptoms severe enough to warrant another operation. Although the standard of care is to revise the fundoplication or convert to magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) in addition to redo cruroplasty, it stands to reason that with an intact fundoplication, a repeat cruroplasty is all that is necessary to alleviate the patients' symptoms.
