Accurate volume status monitoring is crucial for effective diuretic therapy in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). While guidelines recommend daily standing body weight measurement as an indicator of volume status, bed scales are commonly used in healthcare facilities. A method-comparison design was used to compare bed and standing scale weights among adults hospitalized with ADHF at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center between March and April 2023.

Living donor liver transplantation is an effective means to decrease organ shortage. However, many potential living donors are currently being denied due to ABO incompatibility or inadequate donor liver volume. Liver paired exchange (LPE) provides a practical solution to overcome these obstacles, and yet the first case of LPE in the United States was only recently reported in 2020.

Objectives: This practice parameter (PP) for Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) DOTATATE peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) aims to guide authorized users in selection of appropriate adult candidates with gastroeneropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) from foregut, midgut, and hindgut. The essential selection criteria include somatostatin receptor-positive GEP-NETs, which are usually inoperable and progressed despite standard therapy. Lu-177 DOTATATE is a radiopharmaceutical with high avidity for somatostatin receptors that are overexpressed by these tumors.

Aim/objectives/background: The American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) have jointly developed the following practice parameter for the performance of low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy. LDR brachytherapy is the application of radioactive sources in or on tumors in a clinical setting with therapeutic intent. The advantages of LDR brachytherapy include improving therapeutic ratios with lower doses to nontarget organs-at-risk and higher doses to a specific target.

Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, National Center for Children Health, No.56 Nanlishi Road, Beijing, 100045, China.
Background: Our study aimed to compare the reference distributions of serum creatinine and urea obtained by direct sampling technique and two indirect sampling techniques including the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) clustering based on clinical laboratory records, so that the feasibility as well as the potential limitations of indirect sampling techniques could be clarified.
Methods: The direct sampling technique was used in the Pediatric Reference Interval in China (PRINCE) study, in which 15,150 healthy volunteers aged 0 to 19 years were recruited from 11 provinces across China from January 2017 to December 2018. The indirect sampling techniques were used in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) database of Beijing Children's Hospital, in which 164,710 outpatients were included for partitioning of potential healthy individuals by GMM or SOM from January to December 2016.

Objective: There is a current and anticipated labor shortage of endocrinologists in the United States. Over the past decade, the number of applications to endocrinology fellowship programs has plateaued despite increased available positions, and interest in endocrinology has declined relative to other internal medicine subspecialty fields. The examination of driving factors for pursuit of endocrinology as a subspecialty career is needed.
