The air separation (O/N) based on polymeric membranes is critical because it is more energy efficient than traditional methods. Dense polymeric membranes are now the main stay of industrial processes that generate oxygen and nitrogen enriched gas. Though, regular polymeric membranes often fall short of selective pressure demands because O and N gases have such comparable equivalent diameters.

Electro-sensing layer constructed of a WO/CuO nanocomposite, for the electrochemical determination of 2-phenylphenol fungicide.

Environ Res

November 2023

Biological and Environmental Sensing Research Unit, King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology, King Saud University, P.O. Box 2455, Riyadh, 11451, Saudi Arabia.

The abstract highlights the development of an electroanalytical sensor for the detection of 2-phenylphenol (2-PPL) as a contaminant. The novelty of the experiment lies in the utilization of a 1-D nanostructured WO/CuO nanocomposite integrated with a carbon paste electrode (CPE). The hydrothermal method was used to synthesize the WO NPs, which were then characterized using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, K. L. E. Institute of Technology, Hubballi, 580027, Karnataka, India.

Farmers and agricultural experts can take action on many areas of paddy crop handling and management practices with the use of actionable information from the in-field diagnosis of paddy blast disease. To successfully diagnose the blast disease affecting fifteen different paddy crop varieties, three transfer learning multi-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) models, such as CapsNet, EfficientNet-B7, and ResNet-50, are presented in this paper. The field images of blast disease are captured and classified based on disease severity levels, such as low, medium, high, and severe.

Department of Chemistry, School of Advanced Sciences, KLE Technological University, Vidyanagar, Hubballi 580031, India.

The antibiotic drug trimethoprim (TMP) is used to treat bacterial infections in humans and animals, and frequently TMP is used along with sulfonamides. However, a large portion of TMP is excreted in its active state, which poses a severe problem to humans and the environment. A sensitive, rapid, cost-effective analytical tool is required to monitor the TMP concentration in biological and environmental samples.

Incorporating new pollutants and environmental pollution has become a formidable issue as new pollutants are introduced into it and have become a significant concern in recent years. Detection of such pollutants needs a susceptible, selective, and cost-effective sensor that can sense their presence and quantify them at a trace level. In the present study, we have designed a 2D graphene oxide (GO)-based glassy carbon electrode (GCE) electrochemical sensor (GO/GCE) and utilized it as a sensing material for the detection and determination of CRZ.

The widespread use of methyl parathion (MP) and carbendazim (CBZ) as pesticide molecules for controlling pests and protect crops has added pollution issues; excess usage of these can lead to atmospheric pollution through contaminating water and soil sources. In the present study, detection of these compounds at the trace level was achieved by employing graphene oxide (GO) and graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) nanohybrid electrode assembly (GO/g-CN/GCE). The X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) techniques were also used to characterize the materials developed to reveal their purity, crystal structure, and morphology.

The electrochemical performance of linuron (LNR) was studied by fabricating the carbon paste electrode (CPE) using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) along with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (MWCNTs/ZnO/CPE). The influence of electro-kinetic specifications involving steady heterogeneous rate, pH, sweep rate, temperature effect, transfer coefficient, accumulation time, activation energy, as well as the total number of protons and electrons participating in electro-oxidation of LNR has been established using voltammetric techniques like cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). These techniques were applied to investigate LNR in real samples such as soil including water samples.

Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have gained much attention in recent years because of their ubiquitous presence, which is the widely acknowledged threat to the environment. MPs can be <5 mm size, while NPs are <100 nm, and both can be detected in various forms and shapes in the environment to alleviate their harmful effects on aquatic species, soil organisms, birds, and humans. In efforts to address these issues, the present review discusses about sampling methods for water, sediments, and biota along with their merits and demerits.

The availability of organic matters in vast quantities from the agricultural/industrial practices has long been a significant environmental challenge. These wastes have created global issues in increasing the levels of BOD or COD in water as well as in soil or air segments. Such wastes can be converted into bioenergy using a specific conversion platform in conjunction with the appropriate utilization of the methods such as anaerobic digestion, secondary waste treatment, or efficient hydrolytic breakdown as these can promote bioenergy production to mitigate the environmental issues.

Electrochemical Multiplexed Paper Nanosensor for Specific Dengue Serotype Detection Predicting Pervasiveness of DHF/DSS.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

October 2020

Center for Electrochemical Science & Materials, Department of Chemistry, K.L.E. Institute of Technology, Opposite to Airport, Hubballi, Karnataka 580027, India.

The serotype-specific early detection of dengue fever is very effective in predicting the pervasiveness of fatal infections such as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS). This fever results from reinfection (secondary) with a serotype of the dengue virus, which is different from the serotype involved in primary infection. Hence, the present work was aimed to develop a multiplexed electrochemical paper-based analytical device (ePAD) consisting of graphene oxide-silicon dioxide (GO-SiO) nanocomposites to detect the specific type of dengue virus (DENV).
