Immunoglobulin patterns in schizophrenic patients.

Immunoglobulins G, M and A were estimated in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 30 schizophrenics, 20 neurological controls and 20 surgical controls. Significant increased levels of serum Ig A and M were detected in schizophrenics. An association was observed between increasing levels of serum IgA and IgM with the duration of disease and the number of episodes.

Sixty two inmates of a children's home of Lucknow City were examined by using Hindi Adaptation of Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale-Form LM (1960) and a five point rating scale for aggression. A high proportion (69.4%) of the inmates had one or other psychiatric problem.

Drug abuse in India: an overview with special reference to cannabis.

The Indian literature related to drug abuse in general and Cannabis in particular has been reviewed and possible implications discussed. In this regard to solve the existing controversy, 50 pure chronic cannabis users were evaluated for their physical, mental, cognitive and socio economic functions and the results were compared with a matched control group. Results of this study did not reveal any impairment in these areas It is concluded that cannabis, in India, may not be as much injurious to health as has often been mentioned in Western Countries.

Efficacy of lithium in schizophrenia.

60 Schizophrenic patients were given LiCo(3)/Chlorpromazine for 4 weeks, in a double blind cross over study with two placebo crossovers of 1 week before and two weeks after active treatment. Several core schizophrenic features showed significant reduction in severity with lithium. However, CPZ treatment was superior in terms of improvement, as compared to the other group on MBPRS and CGIS.

Constitutional factors in male potency disorders.
