Introduction: Cholelithiasis is widely prevalent in India, with a majority of patients being asymptomatic while a small proportion experiencing mild complications. In the laparoscopic era, the rate of cholecystectomies has increased owing to early recovery and fewer complications. Aim: The rationale of "only fixation" of affected spinal segments without any form of bone or soft-tissue decompression in cases with failed decompressive laminectomy for lumbar canal stenosis is discussed on the basis of an experience with 14 cases.

Materials And Methods: During the period between 2010 and 2022, 14 patients who symptomatically worsened or did not improve following a long-segment "wide" decompressive laminectomy for multisegmental lumbar canal stenosis were identified. All patients were treated by segmental spinal stabilization aimed at arthrodesis by facetal distraction by Goel's facetal spacers (6 cases) or Camille's transarticular facetal fixation (8 cases).

Content analysis of patient support groups related to myositis on Facebook.

Clin Rheumatol

February 2024

Dept. of Rheumatology, Royal Wolverhampton Trust, Wolverhampton, WV10 0QP, UK.

Introduction: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) are heterogeneous and complex, and routine consultation can be overwhelming for patients, or sometimes so rushed that patients feel unable to discuss their needs and wishes adequately. As a result, online patient support groups (PSGs) on social media platforms like Facebook may help provide them with information they are seeking, and the support of the patient community who are living with this condition. Our goal is to explore the current landscape of PSGs in IIM to discuss the future of such groups and their role in supporting patient-driven self-management of complex connective tissue diseases.

Aim: This chapter reviews the clinical entity of central or axial atlantoaxial instability (CAAD).

Material And Methods: From January 2018 to November 2020, 15 patients were identified as having CAAD, wherein there was no atlantoaxial instability when analyzed by conventional radiological parameters and wherein there was no evidence of neural or dural compression due to the odontoid process. The patients were identified as having atlantoaxial instability on the basis of the alignment of facets on lateral profile imaging and a range of telltale clinical and radiological indicators.

Adult human neurogenesis: A view from two schools of thought.

IBRO Neurosci Rep

December 2023

Department of Histology and Neuroanatomy, Tokyo Medical University, Tokyo 160-8402, Japan.

Are we truly losing neurons as we grow older? If yes, why, and how can the lost neurons be replaced or compensated for? Is so-called adult neurogenesis (ANG) still a controversial process, particularly in the human cerebral cortex? How do adult-born neurons -if proven to exist- contribute to brain functions? Is adult neurogenesis a disease-relevant process, meaning that neural progenitor cells are dormant in adulthood, but they may be reactivated, for example, following stroke? Is the earnest hope to cure neurological diseases justifying the readiness to accept ANG claim uncritically? These are all fundamental issues that have not yet been firmly explained. Although it is completely understandable that some researchers believe that we can add new neurons to our inevitably deteriorating brain, the brain regeneration process still possesses intellectually and experimentally diverting views, as until now, there has been significant confusion about the concept of ANG. This paper is not intended to be an extensively analytical review distilling all findings and conclusions presented in the ANG literature.
