Switching intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment in neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Purpose: To compare the outcomes after switching between bevacizumab and ranibizumab therapy due to poor treatment effect in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Methods: This is a retrospective review of patients with neovascular AMD with first treatment using intravitreal bevacizumab (group 1) or ranibizumab (group 2) who switched to the other drug due to poor treatment effect. Primary outcome measures were change in mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and mean central retinal thickness (CRT) at 1 year and last visit.

Association between gene polymorphisms in TIM1, TSLP, IL18R1 and childhood asthma in Turkish population.

Unlabelled: Many immunologic and inflammatory mechanisms play a role in asthma etiology. The aim of this study was to investigate the susceptibility of asthma patients in the Turkish population with demonstrating genes for polymorphisms in TIM1, TSLP and IL18R1. All of the genomic DNA samples were isolated from blood samples according to a standard salting-out protocol.

How is time perspective related to perceptions of self and of interpersonal relationships?

Previous research has revealed a positive association between balanced time perspective (BTP) and subjective well-being (Boniwell & Zimbardo, 2004), however mechanisms underlying BTP are yet to be determined. The goal of the present study was to examine the contributions of personality and quality of interpersonal relationships in the development of BTP. Additionally, the correlations between these measures and time perspective dimensions were evaluated as an attempt to provide further psychometric properties of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) in a Turkish sample.

Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Composite Scale of Morningness.

The Composite Scale of Morningness is widely used and translated into several languages. The aim of the study was to present psychometric properties of Turkish version of CSM based on a sample of high school and university students. A total of 543 high school and 650 university students have participated in to the study.

Pre-service science teachers' teaching self-efficacy in relation to personality traits and academic self-regulation.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship among pre-service science teachers' personality traits, academic self-regulation and teaching self-efficacy by proposing and testing a conceptual model. For the specified purpose, 1794 pre-service science teachers participated in the study. The Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory, and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire were administered to assess pre-service science teachers' teaching self-efficacy, personality, and academic self-regulation respectively.

Effect of water storage and additional polymerization on the color parameters of flowable resin composites.

Aims: Tooth colored dental restorative materials should maintain their chromatic properties throughout their service period. The aim of this study was to examine the possible color changes of flowable resin composite filling materials following water storage. The effect of additional light curing on color stability of restorative materials was also investigated.

The correction of maxillary defciency with internal distraction devices: a multidisciplinary approach.

Aim: The purpose of this case report is to present the orthodontic, surgical and restorative treatments in the case of an operated cleft lip and palate and severe maxillary defciency in a 14-year-old female patient.

Background: Only orthodontic treatment could be ineffcient for cleft lip and palate patients characterized with maxillary hypoplasia. Orthodontic and surgical treatment shows suffcient results, especially with severe skeletal defciency.

The levels of cytokines in rats following the use of prophylactic agents in vascular graft infection.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the circulating levels of IL-1, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-? in serum following the use of topical and intra-peritoneal vancomycin and teicoplanin, as well as topical fusidic acid to prevent MRSA vascular graft infection in a rat model.

Methods: Graft infections were established in the subcutaneous tissue of rats by implantation of Dacron prostheses. Circulating levels of IL-1, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha were measured in serum samples of all rats obtained by ELISA at sacrifice.

Effects of amniotic membrane on wound healing and adhesions in experimental strabismus surgery.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficiency of amniotic membrane in prevention of adhesion formation after strabismus surgery.

Methods: A prospective, controlled study was conducted on 20 eyes of 10 pigmented rabbits. After disinsertion of the superior rectus muscle, under the muscle insertion area to induce adhesion formation, a partial-thickness 4 x 4 mm sclerectomy was performed in both eyes.

Behcet's disease presenting with cerebral vasculitis: a case report.

Introduction: Behcet's disease encompasses a group of multisystemic complications secondary to occlusive vasculitis. It presents usually with oral or genital ulcers however, other system involvements may be the first sign as well.

Case Presentation: A 26-years-old man admitted to our clinic for his decreased visual acuity.

Refractive astigmatism in eyes with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Purpose: To determine the effect of pseudoexfoliation syndrome on ocular refractive astigmatism.

Methods: One hundred eyes of 100 patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and 100 eyes of 100 age- and sex-matched control subjects were included in the study. Refractive astigmatism was measured prior to ocular examination performing cycloplegic autorefractive measures using an autorefractokeratometer (Charops, MRK3100).

Effects of benzo(a)pyrene and ethanol on oxidative stress of brain, lung tissues and lung morphology in rats.

Ethanol and benzo(a)pyrene cause lipid peroxidation either by producing the reactive oxygen species or decreasing the activities of antioxidant enzymes that lead to cellular damage and cellular dysfunction. In this study, we investigated both physiological and histological changes in lung and physiological changes in brain after the administration of benzo(a)pyrene and ethanol both separately and together. Male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups, each containing seven rats as follows: Group I (control), group II (benzo(a)pyrene, [B(a)P]), group III ([B(a)P] + ethanol (EtOH)) and group IV (EtOH).

A malformed fetus in a rudimentary uterine horn pregnancy.

We present a case of a 13-week pregnancy with a malformed fetus in a ruptured, non-communicating rudimentary horn. The patient, a 21-year-old woman with pelvic and right-sided abdominal pain, was admitted to the gynecology clinic of our institution. A ruptured rudimentary horn pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasonography.
