Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the most serious complications after joint arthroplasty. The incidence rate of PJI after total joint replacement is 1-3%. Although there are different guidelines and diagnostic criteria used to diagnose PJI, diagnosing PJI is a highly difficult process for orthopedists.

The comparison of del nido cardioplegia and crystalloid-based blood cardioplegia in adult isolated coronary bypass surgery: A randomized controlled trial.

Background And Aim: In our study, patients who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) using Del Nido cardioplegia (DNC) and crystalloid-based cold blood cardioplegia (CBC) were compared.

Subject And Methods: In this study, two groups of patients who underwent isolated CABG using DNC (n = 106) and CBC (n = 107) were prospectively randomized. Groups were compared in terms of many results such as troponin T, returning spontaneous rhythm, and cardioplegia volume.

Transcatheter mitral valve repair in a liver transplant candidate.

Untreated severe mitral regurgitation (MR) is associated with poor outcomes due to the adverse consequences of long-standing volume overload on the left ventricle and left atrium, which leads to pulmonary hypertension and right-sided heart failure. Early intervention results in favorable long-term outcomes making appropriate timing of intervention very critical. We present a 53-year-old male with severe symptomatic MR and right sided-heart failure which progressed to cardiac cirrhosis necessitating enrollment to the liver transplant list.

Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index as a Predictor of Asymptomatic Organ Damage in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Treatment-Naive Hypertension.

Background: Low-grade inflammation is known to facilitate the development of hypertensive organ damage. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a new inflammatory index based on circulating immune-inflammatory cells.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the relationship between the SII and asymptomatic organ damage (AOD) in patients with newly diagnosed treatment-naive hypertension (HTN).

Objective: Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) has prognostic importance in demonstrating myocardial ischemia, and the Syntax score (SS) in coronary angiography has prognostic importance in demonstrating the extent of coronary artery disease (CAD). C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin are prognostic markers for both atherosclerosis and inflammation. In this study, we aimed at investigating the relationship of CRP/albumin ratio (CAR) with the severity of myocardial ischemia and SS in patients with stable CAD.

Comparison of American and European Guidelines for the Management of Patients With Valvular Heart Disease.

This review compares the recommendations of the recent 2020 American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) and 2021 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) guidelines on the management of patients with valvular heart disease (VHD). ACC/AHA and ESC/EACTS guidelines are both the updated versions of previous 2017 documents. Both guidelines fundamentally agree on the extended indications of percutaneous valve interventions, the optimal use of imaging modalities other than 2D echocardiography, the importance of a multidisciplinary Heart Team as well as active patient participation in clinical decision making, more widespread use of NOACs and earlier intervention with lower left ventricular dilatation thresholds to decrease long-term mortality.

Effect of radiofrequency denervation on pain severity among patients with cervical, thoracic or lumbar spinal pain: A clinical retrospective study.

Background: Low back pain is the leading cause of job-related disabilities. The zygapophyseal (facet) joint has been identified as a cause of spinal pain in 15%-45% of individuals. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to the facet joints of the lumbar, cervical and thoracic regions and discussion of the 2-year follow-up results will provide additional data and contribute to understanding the long-term effectiveness of RFA.

Long-term predictive value of cardiac biomarkers in patients with COVID-19 infection.

Objective: Several studies have investigated the association between cardiac biomarkers and short-term prognosis in the COVID-19 infection. However, the data on the predictive value of cardiac biomarkers to predict long-term prognosis in COVID-19 infection are limited. We aimed at determining the relationship between N-terminal brain-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-TnI) as cardiac biomarkers and in-hospital/long-term outcomes in COVID-19 infection.

The relationship of masked hypertension with autonomic dysfunction and cardiometabolic parameters: a case-control study.

Objective: Masked hypertension (MH) is associated with cardiovascular events and mortality. Data on the association between exaggerated blood pressure response (EBPR) to exercise, heart rate recovery (HRR), which are indicators of autonomic dysfunction, and MH are lacking. This study aimed at evaluating the association between EBPR, HRR, and MH.

Leukocyte telomere length and lipid parameters in patients with myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries.

Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is defined as stenosis of less than 50% or no stenosis on coronary angiography in a patient diagnosed with myocardial infarction. Telomere length is expressed by studies that it acts as a biomarker, especially for biological aging and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between circulating leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and serum lipid values in MINOCA patients.

Role of systemic immune-inflammatory index in early diagnosis of sepsis in newborns with CHD.

Objective: Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are the most common causes of birth defects that have increased the risk of infections. The residual effect of coronovirus disease 2019 on olfactory acuity and mucociliary clearance time: a cross-sectional, controlled study.

Objective: This study evaluated the olfactory, sinonasal and mucociliary functions of patients with post-coronavirus disease 2019 long-term persistent olfactory dysfunction.

Method: Three groups of 30 patients each were formed: patients with a history of coronavirus disease 2019 infection with self-reported, persistent, sudden-onset olfactory dysfunction (group 1), patients with a history of coronavirus disease 2019 infection without any self-reported olfactory dysfunction (group 2) and healthy controls with no history of coronavirus disease 2019 infection (group 3).
