is a model mushroom belonging to the fungal phylum Basidiomycota. Among others, is known for its diverse terpenome, containing various volatile and nonvolatile terpenes and terpenoids. Here, we deepen the knowledge on their biosynthetic pathways by studying the terpene synthase Agr2 in detail.

Organoid models have become an integral part of the research methodology in the lung field. These systems allow for the study of progenitor and stem cell self-renewal, self-organization, and differentiation. Distinct models of lung organoids mimicking various anatomical regions of mature lungs have emerged in parallel to the increased gain of knowledge regarding epithelial stem and progenitor cell populations and the corresponding mesenchymal cells that populate the in vivo niche.

Pericyte dysfunction, with excessive migration, hyperproliferation, and differentiation into smooth muscle-like cells contributes to vascular remodeling in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Augmented expression and action of growth factors trigger these pathological changes. Endogenous factors opposing such alterations are barely known.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive, severe and to date not curable disease of the pulmonary vasculature. Alterations of the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) system are known to play a role in vascular pathologies and IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) are important regulators of the bioavailability and function of IGFs. In this study, we show that circulating plasma levels of IGFBP-1, IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-3 are increased in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) patients compared to healthy individuals.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of feeding homozygous β-CN A1 or A2 milk on the body composition, milk intake, and growth of German Holstein (GH), German Simmental (GS), and crossbred (CR) dairy calves of both sexes during the first 2 wk of life. A total of 104 calves (n = 54 female, f; and n = 50 male, m) from the breed groups GH (n = 23), GS (n = 61), and crossbred GH × GS (n = 20) were evaluated. Calves were weighed after birth and received colostrum ad libitum.

Engaged as an expert witness appointed by the public prosecutor and/or the court in the case N.H.; Institute for Forensic Medicine, Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), University Hospital Gießen & Marburg; Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Psychosomatic Medicine, University Hospital RWTH Aachen; Institute for Forensic Medicine, Hanover Medical School (MHH).

Background: Serial killing by doctors or nurses is rare. When it occurs, it is generally only detected after multiple homicides by the same perpetrator have escaped detection in the past. The persons at greatest risk are multimorbid elderly patients whose sudden death for natural reasons would not come as a surprise.

Article Synopsis
  • Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) exist in sheep populations in Germany and Iran, classified into four main genotypes (A-C and E), with genotype A further divided into 20 subtypes.
  • This research generated new partial SRLV sequence data from German and Iranian sheep, revealing the presence of various subtypes, including newly identified ones in both populations.
  • Findings suggest a potential new ancestor (A22) in Iran, connections between SRLV transmission and domestication pathways, and lack of evidence for the Icelandic subtype A1 in German sheep.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a devastating disease with poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. We screened for pathways that may be responsible for the abnormal phenotype of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), a major contributor of PAH pathobiology, and identified cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) as overactivated kinases in specimens derived from patients with idiopathic PAH. This increased CDK activity is confirmed at the level of mRNA and protein expression in human and experimental PAH, respectively.

Background: Opioids provide effective analgesia for moderate-to-severe, chronic pain. Transdermal buprenorphine (TDB) is available in the UK as weekly, lower-dose (5-20 μg/h) patches and twice-weekly, higher dose (35-70 μg/h) patches. This prospective, observational, multicenter study of patients with various chronic pain conditions assessed the safety, perceptions, and discontinuation of treatment with TDB in a real-world, non-interventional setting (ClinicalTrials.

Coccidiosis caused by Eimeria species is a major form of intestinal infection affecting intensively and semi-intensively reared goats. The province of Alentejo is the main goat-producing area in Portugal. Therefore, all 15 Serpentina goat farms in Alentejo were analyzed regarding the occurrence and diversity of Eimeria species.
