Background: Mentorship is a dynamic reciprocal relationship, wherein a novice (mentee) grows with the encouragement of an advanced careerist (mentor). It is widely implemented in medical training programs. However, there are few reports on mentorship's educational effects in the Japanese context.

Mismatch negativity (MMN) has gained attention as a biomarker for psychosis and a translational intermediate phenotype in animal models of psychosis, including rodents and non-human primates. MMN has been linked to global functioning (Global Assessment of Functioning [GAF] score) and prognosis (psychosis onset or remission), suggesting that MMN reflects activities beyond auditory processing alone. This review examines the 45-year history of MMN from the perspective of psychiatric researchers and discusses current advances in computational and translational research on MMN, summarizing the current understanding of the MMN generation mechanism.

Background: Intensive localized therapy is promising for the treatment of rectal cancer. In Japan, chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are used as preoperative treatments for this disease. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to diagnose lateral pelvic node (LPN) metastases, but the changes in LPN findings on MRI following preoperative treatment are unclear.

Juntendo Hospital also established a dedicated COVID-19 ward; however, many hospitalized patients were found to have psychiatric symptoms, such as delirium and depression. Juntendo Hospital's COVID-19 specialist beds were staffed mainly by internists, who specialized in physical illnesses and were unfamiliar with psychiatric symptoms, making it difficult for them to provide adequate treatment.

To investigate the efficacy of TP in the penetration of eardrops into the middle ear cavity via tympanostomy tube, we established the novel tympanostomy tube-rat model. We investigated the histology of the middle ear to determine the efficacy in moving fluid into the middle ear.

Background: Despite the positive impact of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and wearable cardioverter defibrillators (WCDs) on prognosis, their implantation is often withheld especially in Japanese heart failure patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF) who have not experienced ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) for uncertain reasons. Recent advancements in heart failure (HF) medications have significantly improved the prognosis for HFrEF. Given this context, a critical reassessment of the treatment and prognosis of ICDs and WCDs is essential, as it has the potential to reshape awareness and treatment strategies for these patients.

EUS-guided pancreatogastrostomy is the most common EUS-D/A procedure and is recommended as a salvage procedure in cases in which endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography fails or is difficult. However, initial EUS-D/A is performed in patients with surgically altered anatomy at our institution.

Although social factors have attracted considerable research attention, information regarding their impact on patients with heart failure is scarce. We aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of objective SI and loneliness in older patients with heart failure.

Methods: This retrospective study included 162 osteoporotic patients treated with denosumab for 24 months between 2013 and 2019. Patients were divided according to the changes in BMD as nonresponders (N group: <3% increase in lumbar spine BMD [LBMD], N group: <0% increase in femoral neck BMD [FNBMD]) or responders (R group: ≥3% increase in LBMD, R group: ≥0% increase in FNBMD).
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the intricate relationship between physical function factors and each subcategory score of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament-Return to Sport after Injury (ACL-RSI) scale among patients following ACL reconstruction.
Methods: Participants comprised 59 patients who had undergone primary ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon. The ACL-RSI was completed 6 months after reconstruction and five physical functions were measured in patients on the same day.
Background: International consensus on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care science and treatment recommendations (CoSTR) have reported updates on CPR maneuvers every 5 years since 2000. However, few national population-based studies have investigated the comprehensive effectiveness of those updates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to shockable rhythms. The primary objective of the present study was to determine whether CPR based on CoSTR 2005 or 2010 was associated with improved outcomes in Japan, as compared with CPR based on Guidelines 2000.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. The study included older adults with HF eligible for long-term care insurance in fiscal year 2014 (FY2014) as the baseline and followed them up until March 2018.
The Model Core Curriculum for Medical Education in Japan was revised in 2022. It aimed to reflect changes in the nature of medical care, including the advancement of medical technology through the use of information science and technology and artificial intelligence in the Society 5.0 era.

With the popularization of such procedures, diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) have been widely accepted as the global standard for various procedures with ionizing radiation. The Radiation Exposure from Gastrointestinal Fluoroscopic Procedures (REX-GI) study aimed to prospectively collect actual radiation exposure (RE) data and establish DRLs in gastrointestinal endoscopy units.

In Japan, the Model Core Curriculum for Medical Education, which is the National Model COre CUrriculum for Undergraduate Medical Education, was first published in 2001 and has since been revised to meet the needs of an aged society and the global standardization of medical education. A new quality and ability "Generalism," which is a comprehensive attitude toward patients, has been added to this revision of the model core curriculum. In this letter, we propose an educational strategy for generalism.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual conditions of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) for elderly patients with heart failure (HF) in outpatient rehabilitation (OR) facilities using long-term care insurance systems. This was a cross-sectional web-based questionnaire survey conducted at 1,258 facilities in the Kansai region (6 prefectures) of Japan from October to December 2021. In all, 184 facilities responded to the web-based questionnaire (response rate 14.

An 86-year-old man with a history of abdominoperineal resection of the rectum for rectal cancer underwent resection with ESD for early-stage sigmoid cancer 5 cm away from the stoma opening. At the same time, ileocecal resection was performed for advanced cecal cancer.
