- Recent reports highlight the value of abdominal computed tomography (CT) in diagnosing drug overdoses (OD), analyzing literature from 1983 to 2019.
- Out of 48 cases studied, 93.8% showed residual drugs on CT, with high-density fluid levels in the stomach being the most common finding.
- CT can assist in diagnosing OD, especially in comatose patients, and may indicate the need for decontamination even after an hour post-ingestion.
Case: A 76-year-old woman was found unconscious by her family. She had suffered a fall and was soaked in kerosene. On arrival at our emergency department, she was unconscious, normotensive, with right hemiplegia and chemical burns.
