Since 1998, we've offered an alternative: home care for patients living within a one to two-hour drive of the hospital. In Sweden this approach includes daily visits by an experienced nurse and daily phone consultations with a unit physician.

Titanium plates are the current gold standard for fracture fixation of the mandible. Magnesium alloys such as WE43 are suitable biodegradable alternatives due to their high biocompatibility and elasticity modulus close to those of cortical bone. By surface modification, the reagibility of magnesium and thus hydrogen gas accumulation per time are further reduced, bringing plate fixation with magnesium closer to clinical application.

Magnesium as a biodegradable material offers promising results in recent studies of different maxillo-facial fracture models. To overcome adverse effects caused by the fast corrosion of pure magnesium in fluid surroundings, various alloys, and surface modifications are tested in animal models. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of calcitonin (CT) in animal models of experimental osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), as new stabilized CT formulations are currently being introduced.
Methods: A comprehensive and systemic literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase databases to identify articles with original data on CT treatment of preclinical OA and RA. Methodological quality was assessed using the Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory Animal Experimentation's risk of bias tool for animal intervention studies.

Despite a 15% misplacement rate of screws in idiopathic scoliosis surgery, little is known about the relationship between pedicles and nerve structures in the entire thoracic curve. This study aimed to explore the spinal cord's proximity to the pedicle wall at each thoracic vertebra in the entire thoracic curve, while considering different anatomical changes. Spinal cord to medial pedicle distances were measured on magnetic resonance imaging in 73 patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion with pedicle screw instrumentation.

The extracellular matrix is known to impact cell function during regeneration by modulating growth factor signaling. However, how the mechanical properties and structure of biomaterials can be used to optimize the cellular response to growth factors is widely neglected. Osteocyte lacuno-canalicular network (LCN) is comprised of micrometre-sized pores and submicrometric wide channels in bone. Accumulating evidence suggests multiple functions of this network in material transportation, mechanobiological signalling, mineral homeostasis and bone remodelling. Combining rhodamine staining and confocal laser scanning microscopy, the longitudinal cross-sections of six mouse tibiae were imaged, and the connectome of the network was quantified with a focus on the spatial heterogeneities of network density, connectivity and length of canaliculi.
