Advice from others influence our decisions. Irrespective of whether we follow them or not, we sometimes regret not having listened or blame the other for bad guidance. How does compliance with advice and outcome of the chosen action influence a person's sense of agency? We conducted two online experiments using explicit and implicit measures of the sense of agency.

Herpesviruses have mastered host cell modulation and immune evasion to augment productive infection, life-long latency and reactivation. A long appreciated, yet undefined relationship exists between the lytic-latent switch and viral non-coding RNAs. Here we identify viral microRNA (miRNA)-mediated inhibition of host miRNA processing as a cellular mechanism that human herpesvirus 6A (HHV-6A) exploits to disrupt mitochondrial architecture, evade intrinsic host defences and drive the switch from latent to lytic virus infection.

3D printing of biomaterials enables spatial control of drug incorporation during automated manufacturing. This study links bioresponsive release of the anabolic biologic, insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in response to matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) to 3D printing using the block copolymer of poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) and thermoresponsive poly(2-n-propyl-2-oxazine) (POx-b-POzi). For that, a chemo-enzymatic synthesis was deployed, ligating IGF-I enzymatically to a protease sensitive linker (PSL), which was conjugated to a POx-b-POzi copolymer.

Purpose: To test the hypothesis whether the number of the C(ytosine)-A(denine)-G(uanine) triplets in the androgen receptor (AR-) gene and further single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the androgen-responsive element of the promoter region of genes regulating the androgen pathway influence oncologic outcomes in patients with concomitant bladder (BC) and prostate cancer (PC) at a predisposing level.
Material And Methods: A cohort of 36 patients was treated with radical cystectomy and histologically exhibited invasive BC and incidental PC. The number of cytosine-adenine-guanine (CAG)-triplets (rs4045402) in the AR gene was assessed in tumor-free lymph nodes as well as rs743572 in the CYP17A1 gene and rs676033, rs523349, rs9282858 in the SRD5A2.

Macular neovascularization type 3, formerly known as retinal angiomatous proliferation (RAP), is a hallmark of age-related macular degeneration and is associated with an accumulation of myeloid cells, such as microglia (MG) and infiltrating blood-derived macrophages (MAC). However, the contribution of MG and MAC to the myeloid cell pool at RAP sites and their exact functions remain unknown. In this study, we combined a microglia-specific reporter mouse line with a mouse model for RAP to identify the contribution of MG and MAC to myeloid cell accumulation at RAP and determined the transcriptional profile of MG using RNA sequencing.

The reactivity of three 1,2-dialkynyl-1,2-diaminodiborane(4) derivatives, B(NMe)(CCR) (R = H, Me, SiMe), towards small molecules known to react with both B-B and CC bonds was studied. With arylazides nitrene insertion into the B-B bond with concomitant loss of N was kinetically favoured in all cases. While reactions with sterically unhindered hydroboranes proceeded unselectively, sterically encumbered dimesitylborane cleanly added to both alkynyl moieties, resulting in the first examples of 1,2-divinyldiboranes(4).

Microglia are the tissue-resident macrophages of the retina and brain, being critically involved in organ development, tissue homeostasis, and response to cellular damage. Until now, little is known about the molecular signature of human retinal microglia and how it differs from the one of brain microglia and peripheral monocytes. In addition, it is not yet clear to what extent murine retinal microglia resemble those of humans, which represents an important prerequisite for translational research.

Reinvigoration of exhausted CD8 T (Tex) cells by checkpoint immunotherapy depends on the activation of precursors of exhausted T (Tpex) cells, but the local anatomical context of their maintenance, differentiation, and interplay with other cells is not well understood. Here, we identified transcriptionally distinct Tpex subpopulations, mapped their differentiation trajectories via transitory cellular states toward Tex cells, and localized these cell states to specific splenic niches. Conventional dendritic cells (cDCs) were critical for successful αPD-L1 therapy and were required to mediate viral control.

Boroles are well known to undergo ring expansion reactions with organic azides to yield 1,2-azaborinines. A synthon featuring both azide and borole moieties within the same molecule, 1-azido-2,3,4,5-tetraphenylborole, was found to be much less stable than the related, previously-reported azidoborafluorene and decomposed to intractable mixtures well below room temperature. It could, however, be trapped at -75 °C through the formation of Lewis base adducts, even in the form of the "azide-stabilized azidoborole" complex anion diazidoborolate.

Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of activated T cells. The switch from oxidative phosphorylation to aerobic glycolysis provides energy and intermediary metabolites for the biosynthesis of macromolecules to support clonal expansion and effector function. Here, we show that glycolytic reprogramming additionally controls inflammatory gene expression via epigenetic remodeling.

Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) signaling has manifold functions such as regulation of cell growth, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis. Moreover, there is increasing evidence that it also acts in a neuroprotective manner. We recently showed that TGFβ receptor type 2 () is upregulated in retinal neurons and Müller cells during retinal degeneration.
