Electronic address:

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and associated signaling pathways are involved in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) however, detailed studies are not available. The present study investigated the role of ER stress and related pathways such as ER-phagy, apoptosis and their underlying mechanisms using appropriate models. Beneficial effect of chlorogenic acid was also evaluated against ER stress mediated DCM.

Background And Aims: Popliteal-Sciatic nerve block under Ultrasound Guidance (USG) using a local anesthetic agent like Ropivacaine is an established technique for providing analgesia and muscle relaxation for lower limb surgeries with minimal untoward events. Establishing the minimal volume of 0.2% ropivacaine required to provide intraoperative and postoperative analgesia will further reduce the drug requirements and adverse effects toward the patient.

September 2021

The Charles Pinto Centre for Cleft Lip, Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies, Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute, Thrissur, Kerala, India.

The road to the delivery of high-quality cleft surgery into communities in the LMIC is beset with numerous hurdles. These include the availability of trained health care personnel, the availability of infrastructure in health care, parent awareness of the need for timely interventions in these children, presence of affordable treatment centres with adequate means of transport to and from these facilities for patients coming from the interior rural locations, but most importantly, the financial considerations that are the underlying limitations in most of these above mentioned considerations. We would like to approach this problem by describing the evolution of our own centre over several decades.

Background: Sex differences in presentation, management, and outcomes of heart failure (HF) have been observed, but it is uncertain whether these differences exist in South India.

Objective: We describe sex differences in presentation, management, and in-hospital outcomes in patients hospitalized with HF in South India and explore sex-based differences in the effect of the quality improvement intervention in a secondary analysis of a prospective, interrupted time series study.

Methods: The Heart Failure Quality Improvement in Kerala (HF QUIK) study evaluated the effect of a quality improvement toolkit on process of care measures and clinical outcomes in patients hospitalized with HF in eight hospitals in Kerala using an interrupted time series design from February 2018 to August 2018.

The complex and multifactorial nature of neuropsychiatric diseases demands multi-target drugs that can intervene with various sub-pathologies underlying disease progression. Targeting the impairments in cholinergic and glutamatergic neurotransmissions with small molecules has been suggested as one of the potential disease-modifying approaches for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Tacrine, a potent inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is the first FDA approved drug for the treatment of AD.

Exploring the binding mode of PQ912 against secretory glutaminyl cyclase through systematic exploitation of conformational ensembles.

Chem Biol Drug Des

November 2021

Laboratory for Computational and Structural Biology, Jubilee Centre for Medical Research, Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute, Thrissur, Kerala, India.

Secretory glutaminyl cyclase (sQC) plays an important role in the formation of the pyroglutamate-amyloid beta (pGlu-Aβ) peptide, one of the most abundant variants of Aβ found in the Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain. This post-translationally modified pGlu-Aβ possesses high toxicity and rapid aggregation propensity when compared to the wild-type Aβ (WT-Aβ). Since pGlu-Aβ acts as seed for WT-Aβ, the inhibition of sQC limits the formation of pGlu-Aβ and reduces the overall load of Aβ plaques in the AD brain.

The objective of this prospective observational study was to assess the door-to-balloon time (D2B), in acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients and the time factors influencing it. The following timeframes were measured during the study: ED to ECG time, ED to coronary care unit time (ED2CCU), consent time, post-consent to balloon time (POSTCONSENT2B) and D2B. Effective D2B was 54 ± 12.

Nowadays human saliva is more frequently studied as a non-invasive, stress-free, and preferable diagnostic material than blood. Supporting evidences acknowledge saliva as a mirror that reflects the body's physical state. Numerous studies have also demonstrated the presence and use of RNA derived from saliva in the early diagnosis of disease by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
