Heart failure (HF) is a debilitating condition associated with enormous public health burden. Management of HF is complex as it requires care-coordination with different cadres of health care providers. We propose to develop a team based collaborative care model (CCM), facilitated by trained nurses, for management of HF with the support of mHealth and evaluate its acceptability and effectiveness in Indian setting.

For the potential health benefits and nutritional value, polyphenols are one of the secondary metabolites of plants that have received extensive research. It has anti-inflammatory and cytotoxicity-reducing properties in addition to a high antioxidant content. Macromolecular polyphenols and polysaccharides are biologically active natural polymers with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential.

Objectives: The presentation and outcomes of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) during COVID times (June 2020 to Dec 2020) were compared with the historical control during the same period in 2019.
Methods: Data of 4806 consecutive patients of acute HF admitted in 22 centres in the country were collected during this period. The admission patterns, aetiology, outcomes, prescription of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and interventions were analysed in this retrospective study.

Acute gastric volvulus is a surgical emergency and is known to occur secondary to diaphragmatic hernia and eventration. Adult presentation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia is rare, with an estimated incidence of around 0.17%, and pregnancy may predispose to the development of symptoms due to increased intra-abdominal pressure.

Continuous revision of the histologic and stage-wise classification of lung cancer by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the foundation for therapeutic advances by promoting molecular targeted and immunotherapies and ensuring accurate diagnosis. Cancer epidemiologic data provide helpful information for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and management, supporting health-care interventions. Global cancer mortality projections from 2016 to 2060 show that cancer will overtake ischemic heart diseases (IHD) as the leading cause of death (18.

Background: Twenty-minute whole blood clotting test (20WBCT) and Modified Lee and White (MLW) method are the most routinely employed bedside tests for detecting coagulopathic snake envenomation. Our study compared the diagnostic utility of MLW and 20WBCT for snakebite victims at a tertiary care hospital in Central Kerala, South India.
Methods: This single-center study recruited 267 patients admitted with snake bites.

Developing drugs for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an extremely challenging task due to its devastating pathology. Previous studies have indicated that natural compounds play a crucial role as lead molecules in the development of drugs. Even though, there are remarkable technological advancements in the isolation and synthesis of natural compounds, the targets for many of them are still unknown.

Antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant agents (collectively known as antithrombotic agents) are used to reduce the risk of thromboembolic events in patients with conditions such as atrial fibrillation, acute coronary syndrome, recurrent stroke prevention, deep vein thrombosis, hypercoagulable states and endoprostheses. Antithrombotic-associated gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is an increasing burden due to the growing population of advanced age with multiple comorbidities and the expanding indications for the use of antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants. GI bleeding in antithrombotic users is associated with an increase in short-term and long-term mortality.

Personal protection measures against the mosquitoes like the use of repellents constitute valuable tools in the effort to prevent the transmission of vector-borne diseases. Therefore, the discovery of novel repellent molecules which will be effective at lower concentrations and provide a longer duration of protection remains an urgent need. Mosquito Odorant-Binding Proteins (OBPs) involved in the initial steps of the olfactory signal transduction cascade have been recognized not only as passive carriers of odors and pheromones but also as the first molecular filter to discriminate semiochemicals, hence serving as molecular targets for the design of novel pest control agents.

Context: Dengue fever is the most prevalent mosquito-borne viral disease in humans. Platelet indices (PIs) are given by the cell counters but are often not reported which is possibly due to under-recognition of the utility of these parameters.
Aims: This study aimed to compare PIs in patients with dengue fever to assess their role in the outcome such as hospital stay and platelet transfusion requirements.

Background: Prehospital care including recognition of stroke symptoms by the public and professionals combined with an efficient and effective emergency medical service (EMS) is essential to increase access to effective acute stroke care. We undertook a survey to document the status of stroke prehospital care globally.
Methods: A survey was distributed via email to the World Stroke Organization (WSO) members.

Introduction In cases of intestinal obstruction, increasing luminal dilatation compromises bowel wall perfusion, eventually resulting in intestinal ischemia and bowel necrosis in advanced cases. Elevated L-lactate, as a biomarker of ischemia, may indicate the presence of bowel ischemia in cases of obstruction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the value of serum L-lactate measurement in predicting the presence of intraoperatively observed intestinal ischemia in patients with acute intestinal obstruction.

Background: ABO grouping, Rh typing and crossmatching are routinely done as part of pre-transfusion testing. The Type and Screen (T&S) protocol has been used in developed countries to ensure the survival of transfused red cells. In this study, we compared the safety, costs and turnaround times (TATs) of the T&S protocol and the conventional pre-transfusion testing protocol for patients who had been scheduled for elective obstetrical or gynaecological procedures.

Cerebellar infarction, a rare category of stroke, is often misdiagnosed but not given much importance in the available literature. Its presentation overlaps with symptoms of other neurologic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and systemic conditions and therefore is nonspecific. Early diagnosis and management of cerebellar strokes are of utmost importance as the lack of a proper diagnosis may increase overall morbidity and mortality.

Human acetylcholinesterase (hAChE) has a potential role in the management of acetylcholine, one of the neurotransmitters that modulate the overall activity of cholinergic system, AChE inhibitors have a greater impact in the therapeutics. Though the atomic structure of hAChE has been extensively studied, the precise active site geometry upon binding to different ligands are yet to be explored. In the present study, an extensive structural analysis of our recently reported hAChE-tacrine complex has carried out and revealed the presence of two prominent sub-pockets located at the vicinity of the hAChE active site.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder causing cartilage and joint degeneration. In spite of the availability of several robust drugs like biologics, most of the patients are unresponsive, and reports of severe adverse effects following long-term use are also there. Subsequently the use of natural plant-based products in RA therapy is broadening over the years.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the fourteenth most common malignancy, is a major contributor to cancer-related death with the utmost case fatality rate among all malignancies. Functional mitochondria, regardless of their complex ecosystem relative to normal cells, are essential in PDAC progression. Tumor cells' potential to produce ATP as energy, despite retaining the redox potential optimum, and allocating materials for biosynthetic activities that are crucial for cell growth, survival, and proliferation, are assisted by mitochondria.

Uterine fibroids (UF) are benign smooth muscle neoplasm of uterus that have a significant impact on a woman's quality of life as they perturb hormonal homeostasis resulting in heavy menstrual bleeding, impaired fertility, pregnancy complications and loss. UF can be surgically removed through invasive procedures, but their recurrence rate is often high. Progesterone receptor (PR) has an imperative role in UF management.
