Intra-articular blood, iron and hemosiderin, hydroxyl radical cytokines, and neo-angiogenesis cause synovial inflammation, which leads to cartilage and joint damage. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) inhibits most of the mediators that produce and maintain synovitis. We compile here our work showing the clinical effectiveness of intra-articular PRP injections and their potential role in stopping articular cartilage damage due to bleeding and its possible repair.

Introduction: Regular assessment of motor impairments is crucial in people with haemophilic arthropathy (PwHA). This study aimed to determine if there are differences in 30-seconds sit-to-stand (30-STS) power and maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) of the knee extensors between PwHA and healthy control group (CG). The secondary aims were to investigate the correlation between 30-STS power and MVIC of knee extensors with clinical characteristics and to assess their effectiveness in identifying motor impairment in PwHA.

The application of preoperative noninvasive respiratory support (NRS) has been expanding with increasing recognition of its potential role in this setting as a physiological optimization for patients with a high risk of developing atelectasis and postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC). The increased availability of high-performance anesthesia ventilator machines providing an easy way for NRS support in patients with reduced lung function should not be under-evaluated. This support can reduce hypoxia, restore lung volumes and theoretically reduce atelectasis formation after general anesthesia.

Unlabelled: Prophylaxis is the gold standard treatment for children with haemophilia (CWH). MRI studies revealed joint damage, even with this treatment; this suggests the presence of subclinical bleeding. In the case of children with haemophilia, it is relevant to detect early signs of joint damage, as this allows the medical team to provide the appropriate treatment and follow-up, in order to avoid arthropathy development and its consequences.

In Argentina, transgender women (TGW) have a high HIV prevalence (34%). However, this population shows lower levels of adherence, retention in HIV care and viral suppression than cisgender patients. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the transition to dolutegravir (DTG)-based regimens to reduce adverse events and improve adherence and retention.

In certain cases, the closing force of a single vascular clip is not sufficient for complete aneurysmal occlusion, and the use of multiple clips, or clip stacking, is required. Many stacking techniques have been described in the literature, such as in tandem stacking and overstacking. However, these may not be feasible during procedures with limited exposure or narrow corridors.

Tandem intracranial aneurysms (TandIAs) are rare but inherently complex, and special technical considerations are required for their surgical management. The present case highlights the key surgical aspects of two carotid-ophthalmic TandIAs incidentally found in a 60-year-old female. Both the aneurysms were superiorly projecting, regular in size, and involved the left ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery (ICA).

Introduction: Primary prophylaxis is the current gold standard in haemophilia care for the prevention of bleeding and ensuing joint damage. Early detection of joint bleeding, whether symptomatic or subclinical, preferably during childhood, helps prevent joint deterioration and subsequent disability. The aim of this study is to evaluate the level of agreement between the Haemophilia Joint Health Score and the Haemophilia Early Arthropathy Detection with Ultrasound tools in children with severe haemophilia on primary and secondary prophylaxis.

Stigma toward transgender women (TGW) increases psychosocial vulnerability, leading to poor mental health and affecting access and retention in HIV care. Trans-sensitive health care (TSHC) has the potential to mitigate this adverse impact. This study aimed to describe baseline characteristics in gender identity stigma (GIS), mental health, and substance use among TGW living with HIV initiating antiretroviral treatment and to analyze changes after 6 months in HIV care in a TSHC clinic in Argentina.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) marked a before and after in the management of gastric acid-related disorders since their introduction to the market in 1989. Due to a novel, highly effective mechanism of action blocking the last converging step of gastric acid secretion by parietal cells and very few and mostly tolerable side effects, these drugs quickly displaced other pharmacological compounds such as H2 antagonists as the first treatment choice for peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug-associated ulcers, and eradication of Helicobacter pylori, leading to an exponential increase in their prescription up to now. However, widespread PPI use has led to emerging evidence of long-term adverse effects not described previously, including increased risk of kidney, liver, and cardiovascular disease, dementia, enteroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, susceptibility to respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, and impaired absorption of nutrients.

Introduction: Globally, prosecutions for non-disclosure, exposure or transmission of HIV frequently relate to sexual activity, biting, or spitting. This includes instances in which no harm was intended, HIV transmission did not occur, and HIV transmission was extremely unlikely or not possible. This suggests prosecutions are not always guided by the best available scientific and medical evidence.

Planning and undertaking elective surgery in people with haemophilia (PWH) is most effective with the involvement of a specialist and experienced multidisciplinary team (MDT) at a haemophilia treatment centre. However, despite extensive best practice guidelines for surgery in PWH, there may exist a gap between guidelines and practical application. For this consensus review, an expert multidisciplinary panel comprising surgeons, haematologists, nurses, physiotherapists and a dental expert was assembled to develop practical approaches to implement the principles of multidisciplinary management of elective surgery for PWH.

Background: The respiratory sinus arrhythmia is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. It consists of phasic variations of sinus cycle length produced by an autonomic reflex, and is characterized by increased heart rate during inspiration and decline in expiration. This phenomenon is due to a reduction of the parasympathetic tone during inspiration, causing a rise in the heart rate, while during expiration the opposite phenomenon occurs.
