Inherited cardiac channelopathies are linked to a heightened risk of sudden cardiac death. Despite evolving knowledge on different genes for these inherited conditions, for certain subtypes, such as catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia syndrome, the specific genetic causes remain unidentified. The research of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia syndrome has been conducted through different in vitro and in vivo models, including genetically modified animal models, cardiac-specific transgenic models, pharmacological interventions in animal models, human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes in 2- and 3-dimensional cardiac models.

Background: Persistent tachypnea of infancy (PTI)/neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia of infancy (NEHI) is a form of childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD) that predominantly affects young children. Although it is one of the most common chILDs, there is no unified diagnostic approach specific to this condition.
Research Question: Is there a difference in the clinical presentation and the diagnostic approach in PTI/NEHI patients between the European countries?
Study Design And Methods: This was a European multicenter, retrospective, observational study.

Background: Large language models, exemplified by ChatGPT, have reached a level of sophistication that makes distinguishing between human- and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated texts increasingly challenging. This has raised concerns in academia, particularly in medicine, where the accuracy and authenticity of written work are paramount.
Objective: This semirandomized controlled study aims to examine the ability of 2 blinded expert groups with different levels of content familiarity-medical professionals and humanities scholars with expertise in textual analysis-to distinguish between longer scientific texts in German written by medical students and those generated by ChatGPT.

Objective: To investigate the ongoing parvovirus B19 (B19V) outbreak among pregnant women in Germany and its connection to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed anonymous data regarding serologically confirmed B19V infections during pregnancy between January 2014 and April 2024 across 13 major fetal medicine centers in Germany. We evaluated the yearly frequency of B19V cases, cases that underwent intrauterine transfusion (IUT), cases presenting with hydrops fetalis and cases of intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) related to B19V infection, and stratified these variables by event occurrence < 20 weeks' gestation or ≥ 20 weeks' gestation.

Objective: In recent years, the paradigm of surgical approaches for total hip arthroplasty (THA) has evolved, with portal-assisted techniques emerging as a promising avenue for increasing precision and minimizing invasiveness. The purpose of this study was to compare early experience with the Microport anterior percutaneously assisted total hip arthroplasty (MAP) system, with the established AMIS direct anterior approach (DAA).
Material And Methods: A retrospective chart analysis was performed on 200 consecutive patients who underwent DAA or MAP at our institution in 2022.

Interbody fusion of the lumbar spine is a standard procedure for symptomatic degenerative lumbar spine disease if conservative treatment fails. Surgical decompression and fusion of the segment can be achieved using several different techniques. Over the last decades, minimally invasive techniques, such as lateral interbody fusion (LLIF), have been developed to reduce tissue damage and complications and allow quicker patient recovery.

Introduction: Improvement of early diagnosis and treatment in patients with Phenylketonuria (PKU) allowed for healthy survival into adulthood of these patients, but non-neurological health impairments of unknown etiology emerged. One of these is impaired bone health that manifests in adolescence and adulthood, potentially depending not only on treatment adherence but also on additional lifestyle factors and nutrition.
Methods: Eighteen adults with PKU (18.

Data on the use of the wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) among patients after cardiac implantable electronic device explantation of 1- to 3-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator systems (ICD) are sparse. Accordingly, several guidelines give a different recommendation regarding WCD indication in this cohort. We aimed to study the baseline characteristics and outcome of patients treated with WCD after ICD explantation.

Background: Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) was the first incretin identified and plays an essential role in the maintenance of glucose tolerance in healthy humans. Until recently GIP had not been developed as a therapeutic and thus has been overshadowed by the other incretin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), which is the basis for several successful drugs to treat diabetes and obesity. However, there has been a rekindling of interest in GIP biology in recent years, in great part due to pharmacology demonstrating that both GIPR agonism and antagonism may be beneficial in treating obesity and diabetes.

Background: Persistence to B cell depleting therapies (BCDT) like ocrelizumab and rituximab may be higher compared with other disease-modifying therapies (DMT) in multiple sclerosis (MS). Clinical trials directly comparing these treatments are lacking.
Objective: To compare the risk of treatment discontinuation, relapse, and confirmed disability worsening in patients starting BCDT vs other DMT within real-world settings.
HemoPill is a commercially available ingestible electronic capsule that detects hematin and blood through photometric measurements. An examination with HemoPill requires no special preparation and can be done bedside. Its major advantage is noninvasive luminal blood detection, requiring only a small amount of blood or hematin (> 20 mL) for a positive result, making it especially suitable in multimorbid and/or geriatric patients not primarily fit for endoscopic diagnostic allowing rapid and uncomplicated bleeding detection.

Background: Prophylactic application of a haemostatic gel to the resection field may be an easy way to prevent delayed bleeding, a frequent complication after endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR).
Objective: We aimed to evaluate if the prophylactic application of a haemostatic gel to the resection field directly after EMR can reduce the rate of clinically significant delayed bleeding events.
Design: We conducted a prospective randomised trial of patients undergoing hot-snare EMR of flat lesions in the duodenum (≥10 mm) and colorectum (≥20 mm) at 15 German centres.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by hypokinetic motor symptoms, tremor, and various non-motor symptoms with frequent fluctuations of symptoms in advanced disease stages. Invasive therapies, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS), ablative therapies, and continuous subcutaneous or intrajejunal delivery of dopaminergic drugs via pump therapies are available for the management of this complex motor symptomatology and may also impact non-motor symptoms. The recent update of the clinical guideline on PD by the German Neurological Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Neurologie e.

Background: Composite outcome measures aim to provide a more holistic view when determining the effectiveness and safety of surgical interventions. Recently, 'Ideal Outcome' (IO) harmonized the European and American composite outcome of pancreatic surgery. The rate of IO after pancreatoduodenectomy was 54% but is unknown after left pancreatectomy(LP).

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability, with cerebellar strokes posing severe complications such as herniation and brainstem compression. Edaravone, a radical scavenger known for reducing oxidative stress, has shown neuroprotective effects in cerebral strokes, but its impact on cerebellar strokes remains unclear. This study investigates Edaravone's protective properties in organotypic slice cultures of rat cerebellum and hippocampus, employing an oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) model to simulate ischemic stroke.

Background: High-dose glucocorticoids are the standard treatment for acute relapses in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) or neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Therapeutic apheresis can be considered for the escalation of relapse therapy, but some patients still do not recover sufficiently. We aimed to explore the effects of apheresis on humoral and cellular immune parameters and to identify features that correlate with beneficial clinical outcomes.
