Management of Recurrent Keratitis as a Complication of Black Scorpion Sting: A Case Report.

Scorpions are a group of arthropods known to be highly toxic to humans. We report the case of a previously healthy 61-year-old male who sustained a sting from an Androctonus crassicauda scorpion to his right eye. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in a comatose state immediately after the sting.

The phytochemical profiling of MEAL followed a Folin-Ciocalteu and 10% AlCl3 procedure using a spectrophotometer.

Enhancing water desalination efficiency through integrated photovoltaic thermal systems with phase change materials.

This study investigates the effectiveness of chemically modified composite phase change materials in photovoltaic thermal solar energy systems and hybrid desalination systems in two municipalities, comparing their efficacy using different draw solutions for thorough comparison. Background: Patients with high-risk feet and diabetes are prone to develop diabetes-related foot ulcers (DFUs). To prevent DFUs and their costs and impacts on diabetes mellitus (DM) patients' productivity and quality of life, patients' foot self-care (FSC) practices are essential to screen for DFUs. Our study aimed to assess the self-efficacy and outcome expectations about FSC and evaluate the knowledge about DFUs among patients with DM in Jordan.

Metabolic syndrome among patients with type 2 diabetes in Jordan: A cross-sectional study.

Metabolic syndrome is a major public health problem worldwide and an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). This study aimed to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its individual components among Jordanian patients with T2DM. A cross-sectional design was conducted among T2DM patients at the National Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics in Jordan.

Variations in Depression and Anxiety among Jordanian Women Undergoing Mastectomy and Reconstruction Surgery: Impact of Familial Support.

Introduction: Depression and anxiety are common among breast cancer patients, due to the ongoing mental distress during illness. This study examines the impact of family support on depression and anxiety changes in Jordanian women undergoing mastectomy and reconstruction surgery.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate the effect between family support and depression/anxiety levels in women post-mastectomy in Jordan.

In total, 784-day-old chicks of Ross 308 were randomly assigned into 4 different groups with 7 replicates for each: Normal feed (no essential oils [EO] added) and normal stocking as 9 bird/m, (NSD).

Evaluating accuracy and reproducibility of ChatGPT responses to patient-based questions in Ophthalmology: An observational study.

Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) is an online large language model that appears to be a popular source of health information, as it can provide patients with answers in the form of human-like text, although the accuracy and safety of its responses are not evident. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of ChatGPT responses to patients-based questions in ophthalmology. We collected 150 questions from the "Ask an ophthalmologist" page of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which were reviewed and refined by two ophthalmologists for their eligibility.

Comparing Sagittal-Plane Biomechanics of Drop Jump Landing in Athletes With and Without Knee Osteoarthritis 2-Year Post-Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

The study aimed to determine differences in sagittal-plane joint biomechanics between athletes with and without knee osteoarthritis (OA) during drop vertical jump 2 years after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Forty-one athletes with ACLR completed motion analysis testing during drop vertical jump from 30 cm. Sagittal-plane peak joint angles and moments and joint contributions to total support moment (TSM) were calculated during first landing.

Blue Toe Syndrome in Behçet's Disease: A Case Report.

Lessons learnt from an aggressive tumour masquerading as a neuropathic heel ulcer: a case report.

Cutaneous malignant melanoma (cMM) can develop at any site, but one-third of cases primarily affect the lower extremities, with ankle and foot lesions representing 3-15% of all cases. However, cMM may become a clinical conundrum when it presents as chronic ulceration that is clinically indiscernible from other lower extremity ulcers in patients with diabetes. We present the case of a 71-year-old female patient with a longstanding history of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease and heart failure who presented to our hospital with a fungating heel ulcer.

Respiratory disease complex due to mixed viral infections in chicken in Jordan.

The global distribution of avian respiratory viruses highlights the need for effective surveillance programs and international collaboration to monitor viral circulation and implement timely control measures. In the current study, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of avian respiratory viral infections in the poultry flocks in Jordan, focusing on the major viruses involved, their epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and evolution based on viroinformatics that will be helpful to improve the diagnostic methods, and control strategies including vaccines in the region. In this research, various poultry broiler groups in Jordan experiencing respiratory symptoms were tested for respiratory viral pathogens from January 2021 to February 2022.

The Reasons Behind Long-Term Endemicity of Brucellosis in Low and Middle-Income Countries: Challenges and Future Perspectives.

Brucellosis is a neglected worldwide zoonotic disease with more than 500,000 new human cases each year. Direct contact with infected animals and consumption of undercooked animal origin foods are the main routes of brucellosis transmission to humans. Although long endeavor has been applied to control and eliminate brucellosis from animal and human populations in developing countries especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the disease is still endemic in these regions.

Joint contributions to sagittal plane total support moment in patients with knee osteoarthritis after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Background: Patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) demonstrate lower knee loading. This study aimed to determine whether sagittal plane TSM and joint contributions to total support moment (TSM) in the surgical limb are different between athletes who did and did not show radiological features of knee OA at 2 years after ACLR during triple hops (TH), single hop (TH), single-legged vertical jump (VJ), and walking.

Methods: Forty-one athletes with 2 years of unilateral ACLR surgery participated in this cross-sectional study.

Background: Several analytical methods for the fiber pull-out test have been developed to evaluate the bond strength of fiber-matrix systems. We aimed to investigate the debonding mechanism of a fiber-silicone pull-out specimen and validate the experimental data using 3D-FEM and a cohesive element approach.

Methods: A 3D model of a fiber-silicone pull-out testing specimen was established by pre-processing CT images of the typical specimen.

Evaluation of Clinical Periodontal Parameters of Abutment Teeth Supporting Distal-Extension Base Removable Partial Dentures: A Cross-sectional Study.

To assess the clinical periodontal status of abutment teeth in regards of different design components of distal-extension removable partial dentures. Subjects (N=100) with acrylic or cobalt-chromium distal-extension removable partial dentures were enrolled and their periodontal parameters plaque and gingival indices [PI, GI], probing depths [PD], clinical attachment loss [CAL] and a mobility index [MI] evaluated. Denture base type, major connector, occlusal rests position, design of direct retainers, retention, stability and denture wearing habits were further evaluated.

Impact of Multimedia Messaging Service Education and Exercise Social Support on Physical Activity Among Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Quasi-Experimental Study.

Background: Social support is one of the interpersonal stimuli that define an individual's predisposition to engage in health-promoting behaviors and is considered a facilitator in improving health habits. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can benefit from educating supportive families and friends on self-care management including exercise behavior. Multimedia messaging service (MMS) could also be an effective method for delivering targeted educational interventions that focus on physical activity (PA).
